Part of an article I wrote this week, for what it's worth...Keep in mind, I'm not suggesting you hold a firesale on the guys listed in red below, but if you can manage to dump them straight up for a comparable player or package them in a deal for an upgrade at a position you should seriously consider it. A word of caution: I'm using the typical weeks 14-16 as a guide. If your league employs different playoff weeks, adjust accordingly. Playoff Passing ThreatsLet's just start off with the money shot. Folks, there is no playoff passing schedule that even comes CLOSE to rivaling that of the Cleveland Browns. The party gets started week 14 against the Jets disgustingly bad 26th ranked pass D and only gets better from there! The Browns playoff buffet also serves up the Bills (29th) and Bengals (28th). Not a single playoff opponent gives up less than 240 yards per game right now. Seriously people, it's not a stretch to envision a scenario where Derek Anderson throws for 9-10 TD's in the playoffs alone! Players to target: Anderson, Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards - BUT I wouldn't do it now. Not with Edwards coming off a 100 yd. 2 TD day last weekend. If possible, wait until after week 11. The Browns will be coming off of back to back games against Pittsburgh and Baltimore which will depress their values. Looking for a bagain bin WR option that could pay HUGE dividends in the playoffs? Take a shot at Joe Jurevicius. Others to target:Jets: If you can stomach the poor matchup against the Pats in week 15, Kellen Clemens, Coles and Cotchery will also face the Browns (31st) and Titans (18th) in weeks 14 and 16 respectively. Cowboys: Not a single playoff opponent (Lions, Eagles, Panthers) allows less than 220 y.p.g. Romo, Owens, Whitten and Crayton all look to finish strong.Playoff Passing PansiesTexans: The poor Texans have the anti-Browns playoff schedule. Not a single opponent weeks 14-16 gives up more than 185 yds a game through the air (Bucs, Broncos, Colts). Wait until Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson get healthy. Once they and the supporting cast (Kevin Walter, Owen Daniels and Andre Davis) post some numbers, jump ship if you can get a comparable player in return.Others to dump: Steelers: Especially those of you in point per reception and yardage leagues, Roethlisberger, Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward and to a lesser extent, Heath Miller could be on the short list of players that carried teams for the season, only to pull up lame at the finish line. (@New England 182 yards allowed a game, vs. Jacksonville 214 allowed a game and @St. Louis - 201 yards allowed per game.)Playoff Rushing ThreatsFor those who have managed to find their way without Rudi Johnson all year, you could be seriously rewarded for your patience come playoff time! No other RB in the league will have an easier go of it. This lineup of playoff defenses is seriously offensive! (Versus Rams allow 156.4 per game, @ 49ers allow 126.8 a game, vs. Browns allow 149.5 per game). Not a top 20 run defense in sight. Those of you not currently in the Rudi futures market? The time to buy is now.Others to target: Edgerrin James: Should surge through the playoffs. With the slate of Seattle, New Orleans and Atlanta he won't face a single defense that likes to keep running backs under 100 yards. Looking for a couple of less expensive options? The Texans, Falcons, Bucaneers and Packers ALL face three consecutive defenses weeks 14-16 who allow 100+ yards. Take your pick as to who will be running the ball for those respective teams by then but if you're looking for my best guess as of today you should go after Ahman Green, Norwood, Michael Bennett and Vernand Morency (with Brandon Jackson having a punchers chance late in the year). Playoff Rushing Pansies There's one player that draws the distinct honor of not facing even one playoff defense that allows opposing teams 100 yards per game on the ground. Cedric Benson. Perfect. As if he wasn't crappy enough to begin with. Others to dump: Jesse Chatman: Might start you off on the right foot in week 14 against the Bills 24th ranked run D. but things come to a screeching halt after that. The Ravens (71.9 rushing yards allowed a game) and Pats (97.2 y.p.g.) will bring nothing but bad news in weeks 15 and 16. Kevin Jones: The 2nd half sleeper on the tip of everyone's tongue after going off against the Bears this weekend will likely bring heartache for his owners in the 11th hour. Back to back beatdowns vs. the Cowboys and Chargers run defenses (5th and 7th respectively) will spell trouble for you.
