Is Baltimore the favorite now in the AFC? (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

I understand KC and CLE are not measuring sticks for how a team is going to do or make a SB run, but they also were beating up on SD till very late in the game when SD made a comeback and also made the game seem closer than what it really was.

Joe Flacco is the main reason I feel they can go all the way. He is now able to throw for 250-300+ yds if they need to. They have a wicked combo going right now between McGahee and Rice...McGahee is on pace for 32 TDs, yikes.

They have a pretty strong WR/TE stable filled with some young and some veteran leadership so they are solid there.

OL is pretty good, maybe not top5 otr top10 but its pretty strong.

The defense is still very tough as well. They shut the run down almost as good as anyone.

Is there any reason to think they can't win the SB this year?

Super Bowl or bust this season.

The team is much more polished then last year when they were in it till the very end vs. the Steelers in the AFC Championship.

And they finally decided to open up the playbook for Flacco.

One ugly loss to Chicago with two missed fgs and you and everyone else is willing to write off the Steelers. We'll see. Pittsburgh still owns the Ravens last I checked. Three wins last year. Two more this year maybe three. No SB for you Baltimore, sorry. That's for the big boys.

The team that is a combination of hottest and healthiest 13 weeks from now will be the favorite. Remember the 10-0 Titans last year? What the Ravens have going is a nice momentum builder, but there's way too far to go to overvalue 3 wins. Especially this win. There aren't many teams who can't whip Cleveland at home.

So perhaps I'm dreaming a little bit. The possibility of defeating the hated Ravens 6 times in a row in a two year stretch is just so tantalizing...

Baltimore won a SB within the last decade, so they know how to do it. Nice moxie talking crap from 1-2.

As of today, to me, yes, the Ravens look like the team to beat in the AFC. But it only matters if they're still playing like this in Januay. They've got a solid defense, a great running game, and Flacco looks poised and sharp.

The Steelers don't belong in the conversation right now. The defense is a shell of what it should be with Polamalu out there, the playcalling cost them what should have been an easy win today, and the running game needs to show up against a good defense.

I'd say it is either the Jets or the Ravens at this point in the season. If the Jets beat the undefeated Saints next week it will help their argument. They have faced harder competition than the Ravens.

Balt has an easier schedule. The way that the schedule broke for the Steelers I felt they needed to win the games they were supposed to win. Now they look hungover it's not a good sign.

I think they would be the slight favorite to win the AFC right now. Just like in horse racing, it certainly doesn't mean that the favorite will win the race.

Baltimore does seem to appear to have what it takes, which is a good defense, good running game and a competent QB. Flacco may be more than competent as the season goes on. I guess he's the piece of the puzzle I'm least so on so far, in terms of leading a team to the Super Bowl.

Next week versus New England we'll get a good look at how Baltimore and Flacco will play against a quality opponent.

The other team in the AFC that has impressed is the Jets. You'd expect them to have some ups and downs with a rookie QB but they're playing solid defense and have a pretty good offensive line. The young QB is making some plays and they have some confidence. Another team that's a tough out on a weekly basis.

I think Balt. is the AFC favorite. I would of said this before the Cinncy game as well.

P.S.

Nice drop Limas. Mr. Sweed meet Mr. Pine.

Does the loss to the Bengals count as "ugly" and can a loss ever be pretty?

BAL or the NYJ right now. In 3 months we may have 2 entirely different teams in this discussion.
I agree, Baltimore, and the Jets in the AFC. Baltimore is #1, New York Jets are #2. We have the edge with a more experienced QB (and defense), (and coaching staff).

I dunno, guys. Watch out for Oakland. JaMarcus only threw 2 INTs in the first half today, and then threw for one whole yard in the second half. A total of one TD in two games against the awesome defenses of DEN and KC. Not sure BAL could stop 'em.

It's starting to get easy to be excited about the '09 Ratbirds but let's see what they can do when their offensive line isn't roadgrading the opposition. They've dominated lesser defensive front sevens so far and I think they're gonna be pretty good for years to come -- but if they can't, can Flacco beat a Pittsburgh or a Minnesota?

Tough road games left on the schedule, starting this week in Foxboro. Still gotta go to Minny, Green Bay and Pittsburgh. Plus they never beat Peyton.

Funny how it might be the Steelers not the Cardinals who don't make the playoffs this year....

And if Bironas didn't miss a couple fg, Pitt would be 0-3

Outside of divisional games the Steelers have:Home vs. Titans, Chargers, Vikings, Raiders, PackersAway vs. Bears, Lions, Broncos, Chiefs, Dolphinsand the Ravens: Home vs. Chiefs, Broncos, Colts, Lions, BearsAway vs. Chargers, Patriots, Vikings, Packers, RaidersI fail to see how Baltimore has an easier schedule? Additionally, it looks like the Steelers play most of their tough opponents at home, whereas Baltimore's are on the road.

I like them, but really SD had them if not for a dumb playcall on 4th m 2. coaching is severly lacking in SD.

I think the Colts are under everyones radar and to me once the D is 100% (bob sanders) will be the team to beat, Peyton knows how to beat the Rex Ryan system.
