Is CADDY the new GOAL LINE BACK with alstott out? (1 Viewer)

Sarcasm aside, its a good question. :ptts:
Has anyone been to Bucs camp...How Does Caddy look? Is he going to be the man again! I really like Caddy's upside and have traded for him for relatively low value in every league I am in. I may be too optimistic, but would love to see the old Caddy come out for the 2007 compaign! The Bucs should be ten times better, so I do think the Bucs will be near the goaline a lot more this year!

A: No.

Not until he can change his current durability status.

If and when he does, then he can be. But currently he won't be.

Of course. It just comes down to how many touchdowns you think Alstott would have had. Most of those should go to Williams now. If you're high on Cadillac Williams this should make you feel that much better.

I'd bump Caddy slightly after hearing this news.

I'd project him (if healthy - so, over a 16 game sked): 1100-1250 yards rushing, 7-9 TDs...200-250 yards receiving, 1-2 TDs. I really don't think 1500 total yards is out of the question. If healthy he will provide his owner with terrific value considering he can be had in the 3rd or 4th rounds of most 12 team drafts.

Perhaps Pittman's value should be bumped as well. The biggest concern with Caddy is his ability to stay on the filed. Getting more short yardage work will not help him. Not sure it hurts him but I'm thinking Gruden will want to find other options for short yardage plays. TE's might benefit as well.

It is Chucky.. ... but  This will really help Caddy no one else.

The Caddy is going to be a beast this year no doubt :) We have 2 top talent guards in Joseph, and Sears whom immediately won the starting job. I have been reading the training camp reports daily, and they are saying these guys are really pushing back the D-line. As long as they stay healthy I think Caddy finishes as a top 10 back this year. For you PPR guys, he has really been working on catching the ball this off-season.

I hope your right - I watched him tear apart my Bills - 2 years ago and started him that game and I'v been attached even when he has been stinking.Hopefully he can run over the Seahawks week 1.

Gruden loves his goalline guys, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gave the carries to someone else just to keep Caddy out of the pile...

He continued to hand the ball to Alstott the last couple years and his inside the five numbers were about the worst in the league...

So, as much as I'd like to see Williams score 4-5 more TDs, Gruden's past suggests that Alstott's absence will only result in one or two more scores for Caddy.

For what it's worth, Will Carroll runs a regular column analyzing various injuries in the league and what sort of impact they're going to have on a player or a team. He writes an article for football and another for baseball, and has been doing it for years. He really knows his stuff. This is what he had to say on the matter:

...Mike Alstott's potential retirement puts the goal-line carries for the Bucs up for grabs. Don't expect Cadillac Williams to take them. His chronic neck problems don't lend themselves to battering for a couple yards...

I hope his stat line reads this tonight

2 carries 17 yards and un-hurt

rest Carnell

call him Carnell until he regains the nickname Caddy.

I really like Caddy this year as a buy-low in dynasty and huge value in redrafts.

TB has a real QB, the OL is vastly improved, and Caddy seems to be in great shape. I watched TB an awful lot last year, and teams stacked the box (no threat from Gradkowski) and killed the young OL. Caddy was making two moves to get back to the LOS.

If it wasn't for the incompetence of the Raider offense last year, we'd all be talking about how awful TB was.

I put my money where my mouth was, too, in my redraft. He's my RB1 after going QB/WR

That guy's quote makes absolutely no sense. Caddy's neck is ok to batter around between the 20's, but not inside the 10?

When teams start playing their goal line defense between the 20s and Gruden starts running him up the middle against it, then suddenly Caddy's neck won't be okay to batter around between the 20s, either.Running between the 20s is about finding holes, getting to the corner, and making people miss. You can gain phenomenal yardage without ever having to lower your shoulder or run through people. When you get to the goal line, the box gets a lot more congested and people play a lot closer to the line of scrimmage. The defense gets a lot more compact, and you can no longer rely on running around people- at this point, the best scorers are the big, strong RBs who can lower their shoulder and push people around a bit.

I mean, had you ever noticed that there were "Between-the-20s" RBs and "goal-line" RBs? And that these two different RBs had different skillsets? The fact that they have different skillsets is pretty damning evidence that running between the 20s is different than running at the goal line or in short yardage situations.

Real football down? :goodposting:

I heard Caddy is in line to get both goal-line carries this season for the Bucs. That's if they make it down there that often.
