This is my 5th year of fantasy football and I never drafted Portis before, because he always got taken in the first round (last year, 2nd round.) I always figured that was too high for a guy who never seemed to finish the year.
But this year there he was in the middle of my draft, so I grabbed him up. And it seems to me that though he was never what I wanted as an RB1, he is very satisfactory as low RB2/RB3. He really has very little competition for carries. Shanahan loves to run the ball. Of course injuries are always a concern, but if he can stay healthy I think he could be very productive this year. In a year where there are so many untested guys being hyped (and with good reason, don't get me wrong) this 29 year old experienced RB may be a consistent producer for much of the season.
Anyone agree?

I'm cautiously optimistic. Even though he's got a lot of mileage, he's still only 28, is playing in a better system, and just two years ago was fourth in the league in rushing. Also reading he's in much better shape than at any time last year. Hopefully he won't take another shot to the head, but it's not like he's rehabbing a knee injury. It's premature to assume he has absolutely nothing left in the tank.
I agree here. I think 475 is high just based on statistical averages. The Skins will be better, but they're still a below-par football team who will be playing catch-up a lot. That said, I also would eliminate the McNabb rushes from that total, no? Shouldn't we focus on DESIGNED run plays in that count? I doubt they call many designed QB runs. I could be wrong, but that's where I'd head with it.
