Is Deangelo Williams a Must-Start this Week? (1 Viewer)

Assuming that DeAngelo is still the starter. (I haven't heard a DeShaun Foster injury update this week.)

Last 3 games against Philly defense:

Week 12 - Addai 24/171/4 and 2/37

Week 11- Henry 18/143/1 and 1/8

Week 10 - Betts 20/83/0

Portis 6/25/0

With Delhomme's struggles lately, you have to figure Fox will just shove the ball down the Eagles throat.

Conversely, how much do you downgrade Steve Smith this week?

Depends on Foster. I did not see that much out of Williams last week vs. Washington. It sounds like Foster should be fine, so which way will Fox go? We should know more in the next day or so.

Deangelo did not look very sharp last week and Fox said that Foster is recovering. Carolina is not running the ball much, if they split carries I don`t like either one.

I've been thinking of picking up Williams, but he didn't exactly shine last week....Still if Foster is out I'll grab him...Too bad I probably wont know if foster is out till AFTER I need to submit my lineup.

This is the problem. Even if Foster is out and I can start DeAngelo v. the Eagles the information won't be known until after the Sunday games when line ups are already due. It is crazy at this time of year to start a player hoping they will get the start, or play, particularly one such as DeAngelo who is not a must-start player that will carry your team to victory if he plays.

there's no such thing as downgrading a must-start guy. steve smith should be in your lineup week in and week out, regardless of the matchup. so talk of a downgrade to him is pointless.

Williams has 4.8 YPC this year to Foster's 3.9, 70 carries to 165; if Williams is starting and Foster sitting, Williams should be a strong candidate this week. I wouldn't downgrade him too much because of an off week last week as a starter, especially against a weak run defense this week.

As I said in my Delhomme post, the Panthers aren't using DeAngelo to the best of his abilities. Put Deangelo on Shanahan's team and the kid is Clinton Portis revisited. I expect the Panthers to run, run, run on the Eagles as they have given up nearly 200 yards rushing per game over the last 3 games (592 rush yds in last 3) If the run doesn't work, they will have to pass and Philly will be ready. There will be plenty of 3 and outs and the defense will be on the field waaay too long, thus resulting in plenty of 4th quarter points allowed - in other words, expect more of the same if the running game doesn't work for Carolina.

I suppose you could talk of downgrading him to your #2 receiver for the week.
I threw that in there after all of the kvetching in the Colts-Eagles thread from the Harrison owners. I realize that Wayne != Keyshawn and some/most would argue that Wayne is now the #1 on the Colts, but Harrison's 1/8/0 is still something to ponder.

Williams certainly didn't win himself the job last week. My guess is that Foster is healthy enough to play this week and probably gets more carries than Williams.

RBBC for a poor Carolina running game.....I wouldn't start either of them.

Foster practiced:

(KFFL) Carolina Panthers RB DeShaun Foster (elbow) practiced Wednesday, Nov. 29, and is questionable for Week 13.
He also practiced last Friday, but didn't play Sunday, so this does NOT insure he is playing.
