I will say, Nicks is a really nice 2nd fiddle to Cruz.
Az Hakim never had a season like this. You people ever hear of Az Hakim? He's a good WR, not great. He most often is covered by the 3rd man on the CB totem pole (or worse). Good for fantasy purposes in 2011, but let's not crown him a top WR for 2012 just yet...
It's great production -- IT'S SIMPLY NOT WR1 NUMBERSya 7 for 87 is def worthy of tons of derision.
Overreaction after not getting 30+ points from Nicks in a shootout game.I wish some owner overreacts and sells Nicks low in my dynasty leagues, Nicks is the Giants future at WR. You cant teach sizeya 7 for 87 is def worthy of tons of derision.
not every wr1 puts up wr1 numbers every single game. in fact, none do.still, nicks will very likely not finish wr1 this yr and it is questionable he will be wr1 going forward. so, try not to hurt yourself patting your back too hard. whatever you saw that led you to believe last yr was a mirage was quite perceptive and worthy of praise. It's great production -- IT'S SIMPLY NOT WR1 NUMBERSya 7 for 87 is def worthy of tons of derision.
You must really like Ramses Barden going forward.Overreaction after not getting 30+ points from Nicks in a shootout game.I wish some owner overreacts and sells Nicks low in my dynasty leagues, Nicks is the Giants future at WR. You cant teach sizeya 7 for 87 is def worthy of tons of derision.
I don't understand you guys at all. Teams are rolling coverage to Nicks and that leaves more for Cruz. If the tables were turned you would see opposite results. Even with the double teaming Nicks still caught 7 for 87, he just didn't have any TD opportunities because Eli didn't throw into double coverage in the Red Zone. All of sudden Cruz is better than Nicks? I think not. Can you guys look at this from a high level instead of being so narrow minded?Imagine if manningham was active. Nicks woulda had half his production. How sad is nicks at this point. Cruz > nicks x10.***waiting for the double team comments***

Good posting. If the question is asking if he's a #1 WR in the NFL then all you have to do is ask defensive coordinators. If it was Cruz than he would be getting the double teams and coverage rolling his way. In FF its all about stats so people don't care about that argument or that the Saints forgot to cover Cruz on the 70yd TD. I'm a Giants fan and Nicks owner so I'm happy that Cruz has emerged and Eli isn't forcing the ball to anyone but we can't argue that it hasnt changed Nicks' fantasy stock. It has. And I have been concerned lately how it seems that every game Eli and Nicks are completely out of sync on one or two plays a game. In FF it seems like on many teams that have 1 dominant NFL WR, an argument can be made that the #2 guy that doesn't get the coverage can be considered the better FF WR. Wallace/Brown, Austin/Bryant last year, Wayne/ Collie last year, Jennings/ Nelson this year...just a few examples that I can think of that in FF you might want the #2 NFL WR as the #1 FF WR.I almost can't read these type of posts anymores. You guys act like you've never owned a #1 WR before. All the greats: Welker, Jennings, Calvin, Wayne when Manning was there, Fitz, insert every good WR you know; its all the same...when they come out and make defenses look silly for a few weeks, opponents double them and force the ball elsewhere. Everybody does it. NO WR just does what he wants for 17 straight weeks. Even the "impossible to understand how he does it" Steve Smith in Carolina, where there has been NO other reasonable threat for years and he gets double ALL THE TIME, has games where he just doesnt' produce.
So you guys are saying that a top 15 WR that caught something like 7 for 80+ last night is dragging your team down? You might want to checkt he mirror.
Speaking of Steve Smith, the FORMER GIANT, he was Victor Cruz not so long ago, catching 8-12 balls a game but it didn't hurt Nicks short or long term. Cruz is hot right now and he can play. But it might just change just as quickly as it arrived with him. He has all the looks in the world as being one of the most overdrafted players in next years draft, much like Manningham ended up being this year.
The differece right now is NOT Nicks. Its the Giants lack of a running game and injuries all over the team and especially the O-line. This team had, in the past, had the luxury of keeping its o-line together for a long time and now they are adjusting. Things will normalize and you will see again some great play action and some deep bombs to Nicks.
its truly amazing to me how people are ready to cast Nicks off. With 2 games agains the Cowboys, a game with the Packers and games with the redskins and Jets left, I can see him posting a monster stat line or two down the stretch. I'll look for some of you fellas in the Venting thread in a few weeks when you can't understand how you benched or dropped or traded Nicks and then can't phathom how he caught 8/165/2 against the Cowboys or Packers.
Does it really matter WHY? Hes put up FAR better stats than Nicks THIS YEAR. So in fantasy he is better than Nicks. More pts than Nicks = better. I dont understand why I have to explain such simple concepts.Easier to respond with 4 words rather than agree or disagree with the reasons why Cruz is putting up better fantasy stats than Nicks? Exactly. If Nicks is a far better talent than Cruz (which Im not disputing) and is thus getting double and triple teamed allowing Cruz to roam free, Id rather have the guy roaming free and putting up the pointsIn other words, I'm not going to get fantasy points because Nicks is a god amongst men and draws quintuple coverage and as a result, gets outscored by undrafted free agents. So in other words, water is wet because it's water?Because he's the better fantasy player, guy.Easier to respond with 4 words rather than agree or disagree with the reasons why Cruz is putting up better fantasy stats than Nicks? Same reason Antonio Brown has been better than Mike Wallace in the last month. And yes I own both Nicks & Wallace
At the end of the season in fantasy, you can only rate a player on results, not talent. A lot of owners had high hopes for Nicks and he hasn't delivered. It doesn't matter whose fault it is.I'll keep him again next year. But I won't be counting on him for WR1 production anymore. I don't think anyone will.I thInk people have the shortest memories ever. Last year...just last year... When the giants were healthy and even with nicks being hurt, he was THE top wr in the league until the injury and still ended up top 5. Trying to trade for him in dynasty? Might as well back the u haul up and LOAD IT UP! Because he was untouchable. Now, the entire giants team is banged up and nicks is being talked about like he is freaking mikes sims walker all of a sudden. But he is still a top 15 right now and, if we are talking dynasty, is 23 years old. Nicks is fine. The people crying that he isn't superman every week are not.
id imagine the vast majority of fantasy players will rate nicks as a wr1 going into next season.'pantagrapher said:At the end of the season in fantasy, you can only rate a player on results, not talent. I think Cruz has also benefited from Ahmad Bradshaw being out.'Mimo said:More of a reflection on Eli than Nicks. Eli is not gonna force it to Nicks when he's doubled. Throughout the game the Saints rolled coverage over the top on Nicks and singled Cruz. Teams have been doing it all year and Cruz is benefiting.
He'd be a pretty nice handcuff to the Cruz owner.id imagine the vast majority of fantasy players will rate nicks as a wr1 going into next season.'pantagrapher said:At the end of the season in fantasy, you can only rate a player on results, not talent. could be one of the most rediculous posts I have seen here in a while.Look at the stats he put up last year even though he missed a few games. This year teams have keyed up on him, but that's because giants have zero run game, that will for sure change next yearNicks looks to me like a guy who gets by strictly on his god given talent. He's not a worker. He's not Larry Fitzgerald. He doesn't like to go over the middle, he doesn't work hard to get open when a play breaks down.Very clear that Nicks is not going to be a top tier elite WR in this league.
where are you getting this from? I've never heard that Nicks was lazy. He's not a worker.
Maybe miscommunication with Eli this season is what accounts for his decrease in targets.Surprised nobody mentioned the mis communications between eli and nicks , if they connected on those he would of been close to 200 yd ,I know ifs don't matter , I'm just saying , dissapointed nicks owner here
I mentioned this also. That route that he broke off down the sideline could have been a huge play. He does this every week, missing opportunities that could make this thread moot. Then again Cruz misses a lot of passes so they both have their flaws. Eli doesn't seem to hold grudges though. He frequently goes right back to the guy that makes a mistake...just ask Ballard.Surprised nobody mentioned the mis communications between eli and nicks , if they connected on those he would of been close to 200 yd ,I know ifs don't matter , I'm just saying , dissapointed nicks owner here
Sounds a lot like what people said of Manningham going into this season.People are putting this into a vacuum. Yes, at the end of the day, points for Cruz are more than Nicks...right now...in this season...under these conditions with the Giants. But players will get healthy and things will change again. At the end of the day, you know Nicks' talent and it would be kind of silly to think that he would be the second Giants WR drafted in a redraft or that he would be valued lower than Cruz in dynasty. If NOTHING else at all, then if Cruz continued to produce like this, wouldn't it stand to reason that teams would start to double Cruz (if he suddenly is viewed as the "guy" that is hurting defenses the most)? And wouldn't that benefit Nicks? Its an ebb and flow. NO WR not named Jerry Rice or Randy Moss one time ever goes through a season without a hiccup here and there. Welker has had a bad month until this past Sunday. People aren't ready to mark him down NEXT year based on that.'Dought Man said:Will be interesting to see where these guys get drafted next season...I can see Cruz being real nice value in the 4th round of drafts...with people still taking Nicks in the early 2nd...figuring he will bounce back.
Because this is a prospective hobby.Sure, you can look at this and say Cruz has put up better numbers so far. If that is how you want to define better that is totally cool.Does it really matter WHY? you guys realize its week 13 & whats looming in week 16?i think its purely the fact that there is absolutely zero threat from the running game. nicks is the best offensive player available to get the ball. defenses will shift towards him. you guys sound like you all never owned a wr1 before. hakeem nicks goes as the running game goes. he was the prime beneficiary of the big play action bombs. victor cruz is doing much better than nicks, but i do think nicks is the better talent and when the giants wake up and have a running game going, that will be the time nicks will elevate back into elite categoriescalm down
so you will take cruz over nicks next yr? id imagine you will for the next 3 weeks but just in case?you guys realize its week 13 & whats looming in week 16?i think its purely the fact that there is absolutely zero threat from the running game. nicks is the best offensive player available to get the ball. defenses will shift towards him. you guys sound like you all never owned a wr1 before. hakeem nicks goes as the running game goes. he was the prime beneficiary of the big play action bombs. victor cruz is doing much better than nicks, but i do think nicks is the better talent and when the giants wake up and have a running game going, that will be the time nicks will elevate back into elite categoriescalm down

definitely cruz for the remainder of the yearas far as im concerned, this running game (lack of one) just really hurts any downfield production by giants wr (nicks/manningham) while cruz is going to continue racking up numbers with these intermediate routes
Cruz is averaging more YPC than Nicks ever has. And his long TD is longer than Nicks's.
