Is it safe to say Vince Young has been "Maddened" (1 Viewer)

Sorry if a honda, but with his injury today and a poor season (statistically), is it too early to say VY has fallen victim to the Madden curse? I wasn't scared of it and took VY in several leagues and have not enjoyed the returns so far. His team is winning games, but he's not doing much at all. He's not adding the extra yardage with his legs and his passing was never enough for him to be a QB1 for fantasy.

No, I'd say he was "overrated." lol @ how many people thought he would equal or better last year's 8 rushing TDs and with a questionable supporting cast no less. Didn't anyone learn anything from Kordell Stewart?

That's a pretty low blow.I wasn't playing fantasy back when he was in his prime, but I would imagine Randall Cunningham probably had some great fantasy seasons.

I convinced the first pick in the draft that year that Kordell was going to blow up and he took him, leaving me with TD and his 20+ scores :thumbdown:Edit: And it came back to bite me in the bum..took Vince this year.

so anyone cutting bait with VY or riding it out? people in my league are actually denying any trade offers just based off of what they truly perceive is the Madden curse effect. Damnit....

he's stopped running. i have no idea why.
Because he's a passing QB who can run, not a running QB who can pass. The whole point of having Young has been for him to pass, pass, pass, and pass some more and use his legs when necessary. It's the track they took with McNair to great success. Young is tossing at 64% this season. Not much in the deep game, but he's completing passes at a high clip, which is preferable to him being a 50% passer who runs 10 times a game.

Right.I would like to see him take off on some wide open lanes he's had. Instead he's staying put and looking for receivers. It has cost the team TDs. No doubt he's been coached so much to stay in the pocket that maybe he's overcompensating just a tad. Also, Chow and Fish are brutally conservative with their offensive playcalling.Still, he's completing lots of passes, and the Titans are 3-2 with less talent at the skill positions than last year, when they started 0-5 without Young at the helm.

There is no way he pulls his hammy if he weren't on the Madden cover.

PS. you are a complete idiot if you believe my above quote.

:blackdot:

I believe in two football curse: Madden Cover curse and the Superbowl loser curse. Both are making their presence felt so far this season

Watch the Titans play. They run the ball with the backs, then they do it some more, and when you think they'll pass, they run the ball some more. ULTRA-conservative. They have a stout defense, know it, and are apparently content to get into a grind-it-out kinds of low-scoring affairs.I thought most people had Young ranked too highly in the preseason just based on the quality of talent surrounding him. It dropped off from last year. That was before I knew they were going to be even MORE conservative on offense.

Yeah, I guess that's what is happening. I drafted VY based on him improving his passing AND adding in some rushing yardage/TDs. I see he basically runs now just to buy time. Good for his team, not good for fantasy I guess.Any word on his injury?

He is day to day.

Vince Young's strained right quadricep remained sore today, but Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said he hopes the quarterback will be able to play in this Sunday's game at Houston. “He couldn’t practice today if we had practice today. He is sore,’’ Fisher said. “But it is not as bad as we thought. He’ll be day to day and our treatment path will be to try and get him back on the practice field as fast as we can. “There is no potential surgery required. … He has a quad strain and he is going to have to work through it. He has been a quick healer. We just hope he’ll be able to bounce back from it quickly.’’ (The Tennessean.com)

Is Collins worth picking up for a one week start in his place if VInce can't go? Houston is up next, any thoughts?

damn, hope he can play against Houston. He loves killing them for passing on him. His home team and all.

I think there's also a case here of the Titans being better than expected. Last year when VY was putting up great fantasy stats, he had to bring them from behind all year. He had to drop back to pass most of the second halves, and that led to his bigger rushing plays and big fantasy numbers. This year, the defense has been great and they've been in every game. So he hasn't had to put the team on his back and do the Superman thing.

It's my own fault for buying into the hype- I won't blame anyone but myself. I feel like people here are shocked he isn't putting up stud QB numbers. Though, I didn't think he would be THIS bad. I mean I think he has given me about 6 points in his last three starts. I think he will get it going a little bit, there really is no where to go but up. Maybe I am still being naive but I think he will have a better year than he is going -- and hopefully sprinkle in a stud game or two. Do you all think that's outlandish?

I disagree with that. He is a horrible passer. His completion percentage is high simply because teams respect his running ability so much and he throws a lot of short passes. I'm not down on him. He is a winner and a leader. His running ability both opens up lanes for the running game but as mentioned before enables him to be a more efficient passer as the defense has to respect his running ability.

I think his running less could be for a few reasons. I think he wants to prove he can win games with his arm and I think he knows if he can make teams respect the fact he can win games with his arm it will open up the offense for everyone.

Yep, its tough hitting those 8 yard out patterns.

averaging 140 passing yards a game, combined with a ground attack featuring Fatdale White and Chris Brown = not a very good team.

Congrats beating NO and ATL. How Jax couldnt stop the run in week 1 is one of the NFLs greatest mysteries.

Vince will be a good QB in the future, but if he wont run for 30-40 yards a game min, he is not a viable fantasy option.

makes sense.even in his prime, "air" mcnair's passing numbers were rather pedestrian, while fisher ran the legs off of eddie george.

I don't know about all that. He's certainly a better passer than someone like Vick or Kordell was, but when you consider the fact that he basically throws sidearm, I'd imagine that his athleticism was more of a factor in the Titans' drafting of Young than you make it out to be.

The stats from last year don't seem to agree with you: Half Att Comp Pct Yds Avg Lng TD Int 1st 1st% 20+ Sck Rating1st Half 177 93 52.5 1,092 6.2 37 4 5 52 29.4 17 13 67.3 2nd Half 179 90 50.3 1,106 6.2 53 8 8 55 30.7 16 12 66.0Seems pretty consistent half to half.Edit: Ugh I can't ever get tables to post right.
