This is a sport that condones steroids. I don't think matters one bit what "baseball" thinks of Pete because they are just a bunch of hypocrites anyway.

Not really. The NFL is actually the sport the condones PEDs but no one ever says a thing. MLB outlawed them, maybe you should read the paper more.

Nothing has changed since the decision to withold his eligibility was made. Pete surely has not done anything positive (and at times has done things to the opposite).

It's one thing to cheat. If you are cheating to gain an edge for your team - not your wallet. Especially when he was in a position where his selfish need to win money was at least of some detriment to the team winning (i.e. burning out or not using a reliever depending upon whether money was riding).

By bringing into question the very validaty of your sport, you have disavowed your chances for Hall recognition.

Pete's done just about everything in his power to piss everyone off that would have any power to get in him in the Hall. Screw him.

why does this matter?Ty Cobb was a ******* by all accounts...I'm sure there are other, less reputable persons in the Hall as well.Lots of hypocrisy going on here? Is betting on your own team really that sacred?

If you were a bookie and Pete Rose called you 10 games in a row to bet on the Reds, then didn't call you for the 11th game, what would you think?

He doesn't like the pitching matchup?

I'd like to see Pete added as a player, but not as a manager. That said, I don't feel sorry for him one bit. I'm a lifelong Reds fan and understand that Pete is the King of all #######s.

How is that different from the guys who took PEDs and risked injuring themselves and crippling their teams' salary "cap" to benefit their own wallets? Their selfish need to make money is at least of some detriment to their teams winning, too.

Alltime career hits leader...
One of the greatest travesties in baseball was Pete Rose writing his own name in the lineup so he could pursue his own personal goals at the expense of his team's fortunes. Of course that was par for his career.
 IIRC he was only a player manager for 2 years... one of which he posted pretty solid number. That last year he sucked but he only played a fraction of the season.ETA: I was wrong. Tony Perez was pretty obviously the better player in 85/86. He also managed a bit in 84. Guess I was blinded by the hype as a kid. :lmao:

Alltime career hits leader...pretty big distance between Rose/Cobb and everybody else.
Not everyone is impressed by his career "hits"."If I had played my career hitting singles like Pete (Rose), I'd wear a dress." Source: The Mick (Mickey Mantle)

One of my all time favorite quotes, and I absolutely loathe the Yankees.

He's a borderline top 50 all-time player. He certainly deserves to be in the Hall on his play on the field, but he's incredibly overrated by those who don't understand baseball like women and LHUCKs.

I have always felt the lifetime ban should be exactly that, a ban until your life ends. Induct Pete Rose on the first ballot following his death.

Besides it's prohibition being posted in EVERY SINGLE LOCKER ROOM, you mean? The Black Sox scandal almost destroyed baseball; it's why you have a commissioner now. It is THE rule you do not break, EVER. Rose can rot in hell for all I care.

It's sad but the HoF doesn't matter much to me anymore. It's become more about the process and the voters than the players and their feats. I'm sure it'll be a big deal for Blyleven, Alomar and Gillick, and it would be a huge deal for Rose.

I can go to the Louvre or the Met and appreciate the art without somebody arbitrarily deciding for me who belongs in the Sculptor Hall of Fame. Cooperstown is on my bucket list but if I make it, I'll go for the history and not because Rabbit Maranville was deemed more worthy than Ron Santo.
