Is Jimmy Johnson Sick? Weird Artificial Intelligence "Tribute" in Super Bowl (3 Viewers)

Sorry if this was covered in another thread. Is Jimmy Johnson sick? The videos below felt like a live eulogy. I've heard people say they wish they said something while a departed person was still around, which is what it felt like. If it was just an unannounced retirement, it missed the mark. It was made more awkward by Curt asking him "Is this goodbye?" with Jimmy replying "Let's take it one day at a time". I certainly hope he is okay and glad he's the happiest he's ever been, but he looked frail.

Was wondering the same, it was a touching but odd moment. JJ looked very emotional.

Agree, it was touching. It just made me uncomfortable thinking he has an unannounced illness rather than a retirement (again made more awkward when Curt asked if this was it). Or, it was just truly meant as an appreciation gesture, but it just gave off feelings of finality.

wow that is hard to watch it sure does make you think that something is wrong and that makes me sad because he does seem like a hell of a genuine guy take that to the bank bromigos

He was so good. Jerry really blew it, which is great actually (exposed), although it would've been nice to see more of that dominance. And I hate Dallas, but that was ridiculous, what he did and I think it would've gone on for a bit.

JJ and BP are at the top, imo.

He's in his 80s and Fox is trying to get younger. They might be pushing him out.

Yeah, I think this is it. I don't think he's dying. He's just retiring.
That's what I think, but I think it is more of a push out. I feel like a producer in Curt's ear told him to make the ask while he was emotional on national TV, and JJ would only say "one day at a time".

It's tough when you have an aging legend (Corso and Vitale come to mind) and you either have to let them ride it out or face public backlash for moving them out. This felt like an emotional arm twist to Jimmy.

Yeah, but Jimmy isn't Corso or Vitale. He's some dude that talks on my television at halftime. Vitale and Corso were sort of broadcasting legends, something Johnson is not (at least to me, anyway). Same goes for Bradshaw. Don't think I'll miss either of them on the tube, as it were.

somehow i didn't expect Jimmy Johnson to be 81. holy crap.
Competed on Celebrity Survivor one time, literally asked them to vote him off so he could go home

-JJ is a Miami Legend and a staple for anyone who runs around the Florida Keys which is really where Jimmy prefers to be most of the time.
I have had some epic Friday Nights at JJ's "Big Chill" where the beer is super cold, food is average but you go to see some of the South Florida Royalty where they will all gather
Dan LeBatard, Greg Cote, Michael Irvin and other former Miami Hurricanes when they are in town and yes JJ will make appearances there.

"One Day at a Time" does sound as if something is troubling him health wise, would not be surprised if we learn about it in the coming weeks.
Hope he's alright but after 80 you're on borrowed time whether you realize it or not

There has never been a "Celebrity Survivor" season. He competed on an actual regular season of Survivor. And did indeed ask to be voted out after 9 days (though the show was edited to make it look like he was booted for other reasons.)

Worse (better?) than that, Howie is 65. He still looks like he could be out there playing.
they're kind of frozen in time in my brain somehow. makes logical sense that they are 65 and 81 but since they're on TV it feels like they don't age... they should just always be... on tv age.
None of the NFL shows are really interesting but something very comfortable about that Howie, Jimmy, and Terry anchored set. Going to miss it when it is gone, particularly with the Gronks of the world to replace it.

You can tell I don't watch the show much
Last time I tuned in there was a guy talking into a conch shell like it was a telephone
-Last time I watched was JJ, I just assumed it was a Celebrity style edition

That was almost 20 years ago.

Gronk's goofy dope shtick is growing really stale already.

you think it's bad now.. he's going to replace Jimmy and they're going to roll Jason Kelce and Jameis out there as regulars soon enough.

just put 5 guys in clown suits up there. that's what America wants.

Is it, though? Is anybody really watching attentively or is it just who can yell the loudest over the halftime goings-on in people's residences? A prefab personality for prefab living?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by anything America does anymore. We seriously need to reevaluate how we're educating people and maybe ask if that isn't in need of change or maybe if it's just a big money drain. Because the results aren't good. The lack of critical thinking and the rise of reductive thinking is paramount in so many decisions and everyday life.

I get the elevation of the shock jock when everything is staid and nobody speaks the truth for fear of ruining access points to information or corporate timidity, but I just do not get guys like Stephen A. Smith and the demand for him and guys like that as the main arteries and broadcasters of information—or derivative acts like that, no matter how carefully attempted at crafting and branding they are (Gronk is a spectacular failure, IMO).
