Is Joe Bryant among the Growing Legion of Patriot Haters? (1 Viewer)

Joe pokes the needle every once in a while, but imo its a good thing. Ive felt the sting on a few occasions, but his general integrity and objectivity imo is exceptional and for the most part unquestioned. He runs a clean show, a tight ship, and is rightfully respected. We Pats fans need to respect his opinions about New England, whether shining or dull. New England's run right now is fueling interest in football to a peak not often seen. Its bringing out passionate, fascinating, compelling and rare conversation . Questions about many things ranging from the ethics involved in scoring and running it on teams, to an aggressive 'quest' to gain competitive advantages and how far that envelope should be pushed, to firing away for records seemingly out of reach. To the relevant pursuit of PERFECTION. And numerous others. And thats also a good thing. Joe represents a stable, honest, confident, trusted opinion on anything about New England, imo. He's not a fan. I am. Our opinions on the subject matter will no doubt collide and repel. But when differing viewpoints meet, and there is a willingness to accept honest counters to one's own beliefs, and accept criticism, the results are typically positive. Gotta be willing to accept and handle criticism, even it is seems sometimes mistimed. Everything Joe says about the Patriots from a non-fan perspective I appreciate. So, just take it on the chin big guy. Its only a light jab. Not a knockout punch. If we havent been knocked out by now, we never will be. So, rock on Pats! And thanks for the great site, Joe.
As a Patriots fan, how can you not find all of these people incredibly annoying and pittiful? Seriously. Everyone's attention has turned away from enjoying their own team and towards hating the Patriots. It's really incredibly obnoxious.
No, I still enjoy my team plenty. And I admire the Patriots and enjoy watching them ply football. I don't care if they go undefeated or not. Frankly, the plotline makes the season enjoyable. I DO care about the fact that Patriots fans are an insufferable lot. I do care that the same standards and rules that everyone else plays by and is punished by should somehow not be important when dealing with the Patriots. Which is why I'm going to enjoy it immensely when the Cowboys beat them in the Super Bowl. :lmao:

For me, its simple. Because we've felt it all year. Its been 3 months of being hammered like a friggin' nail, and I guess Ive either become numb to it, accepted it, or just appreciate the notion that its only because our team is SO FRIGGIN' GOOD that the hating even exists. Dont sweat it. Try and be more tolerant. Believe me, I feel your frustration. Think about how sweet the juices of glory will taste in the end. Patience, young grasshopper. These guys have won 21 in a row before. What's another measely 7?? :lmao: (5 of those will be at home, btw)

Wow, to get your panties in a bunch over the comments you bolded is about as weak minded as I've ever seen. Maybe it was your tipping point, but gimme a break.
You're all right. I am totally wrong and none of you are annoying losers. It was the emoticons that really made me see the error of my ways.
Wow, you would've been far better off posting your original cryfest and retiring from this thread permanently. People then could've assumed that you were just having a bad day. Now? You're definitely one of the "annoying losers" that you speak of.

Wahhhhhhhhhhh!!!, Joe Bryant isn't saying nice things about my team, Wahhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Your team was caught cheating, has a complete d-bag for a coach and a metrosexual QB. That's only the tip on the iceburg on why people don't like your team. Get over it.

Never actually saw the word, "metrosexual" spelled out. Thanks for the nugget. Not that I ever actually wondered about the spelling, but that may be the one thing today that I learn if my day falls short otherwise. I wonder if Brady keeps any top secret undefeated files in there about why he's so ice cold when the pressure's on in that man bag of his. Probably not. Probably nothin' but a bunch of hair products in there. And some 'Stetson'.

Let's clarify: No one hates the Patriots because they are good. Just like no one hates the Red Sox because they won the World Series. It's the insufferable fans that are worth the ire. There is nothing better then watching GREAT football being played, regardless of the team involved. The Pats play GREAT football. And there's nothing worse then watching that great football in a bar with some toolbox wearing a brand new Randy Moss jersey, drinking Sam Adams, eating a crab cake, and talking about how awesome the team is and that everyone hates them because their so good, never realizing that the problem is him and his buddies who won't shut up about it.

I dont find it too funny, but it's not worth complaining about.I do get annoyed that one fan is complaining about this, and you have a bunch of posts that "Pats fans are whining again." It's just one guy from my count. But whatever, just more overreacting on the forum again.

Thanks twitch and other pats fans that have chimed in.

Random Shots is pretty tame but even with that, the very nature of it means that I'm going to take a "jab" at lots of teams / fans. Which is a fine line sometimes. I was pleased to hear the way twitch described it as that's exactly what I'm going for. It's a blurry line sometimes between taking a jab and being a jerk crossing over to just being mean.

I think part of my personality in doing some of this stuff too is that I try to lean more toward jabbing at the guys on top. For instance, I used to needle Brian Billick a pretty good bit. Now I don't. I wrote earlier in the year that it was time to consider taking away Joe Gibbs' right to call a timeout and that it was sort of like taking the keys from your grandfather. That might have been funny when he called a dumb timeout that didn't cost much. When he called one in the Buffalo game, that's off limits.

So by definition, I find myself needling the Pats more this year than normal.

Obviously, they're a fantastic team. Brady is one of the best ever and I've said many times that Belichick is as much a lock for the Hall of Fame as any person ever. What he's done there is unreal. But that's boring and doesn't really make anyone want to read. (And yes, I realize many feel Random Shots is already boring and no one wants to read it now. Point taken.)

But every year I have folks that leave over something I say. That's just reality. So to the original poster - Sorry we've become something different than you want in your eyes. And thanks for the business the last 5 years. Much appreciated.

Last year it was the guy that was mad I said the Coors ads sucked. Of course he worked for Coors. :goodposting: I don't go around trying to stir people up as we have enough of that in society already. But I also think if you're not getting at least some "you suck" mail, you're probably taking the safe road too much.

I don't care if Joe likes the Patriots. The guy has indirectly and directly helped me to first or second place in four leagues.

Joe Bryant for President.

Yes. 100%. All Pats fans are bandwagon fans. He cant even get all of the stereotypes right. Crab cakes are Baltimore pal. Why would true Patriots fans shut up about IT? Our team is undefeated. Its a pretty good feeling. I dont live in Boston anymore but when I get to work every Monday (or Tuesday) morning, everyone in my office wants to talk to me about the Patritos and what does it feel like to root for a team that you know is going to win. These are Philly fans. They have had some of the most excrutiating losses a fan can go through in the past few years. They are not trashing the Patriots. They are envious. In a good way.

I dont think Joe Bryant is a Patriots hater nor care if he is. I do think he has a bias against Patriots fans. He as much as told me so years ago when he coined the "Whiny Tool" comment. He coined that comment because of actual Patriots "fans" he came in contact with in Tennessee. I find it disengenuous for him to think that this thought process doesnt seep into some of the Posts that he makes. Joe and I had a lengthy discussion about this via PM on Sunday. There are many on this board that want to think that the Patriots didnt have ANY fans prior to 2001. I love all the sweeping generalizations about Pats fans on this board. Its as if there is a cookie cutter and all Pats fans are the same.

I give little credence to any post that starts with "Patriots Fans" or "Cowboy Fans" or "Steelers Fans" etc. Individual posters annoy me but I dont apply that to the whole fanbase of whatever team they root for.

Yeah, not really. Not really ever.

Unfortunately it would seem that with Pat's fans, as well as several other team's fans, that the annoying ones are also the most vocal. So while the generalizations that are made are likely wrong, there is a reason that they are made.

I think the OP has a fine point. Many of us, especially me, have been way too hard on the New England Patriots, and it's NOT RIGHT and NOT FAIR.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I called Randy Moss a whiny scumbag who can't handle physical play; I apologize for hoping he gets slammed around this Sunday.

I'm sorry I suggested that Tom Brady was an arrogant jerk.

I feel bad about my comments to the effect that Bill Bellichick is a cheating, evil ******* who deserves to lose every game he coaches.

And I'm especially sorry I called out the Patriot fans on this website for being insecure about any and all criticism of their team. I have no idea how I could have reached such a conclusion.

If I promise not to hate any more, will you guys be nice to me?

There are many on this board that want to think that the Patriots didnt have ANY fans prior to 2001. I love all the sweeping generalizations about Pats fans on this board. Its as if there is a cookie cutter and all Pats fans are the same.
Unfortunately it would seem that with Pat's fans, as well as several other team's fans, that the annoying ones are also the most vocal. So while the generalizations that are made are likely wrong, there is a reason that they are made.
Just realize that the Stadium might not have been full but some of us had season tickets to the Patriots in the 80's and 90's. We do exist. Not everybody is a Johnny come lately.

Right. All one has to do is read posts made by eom (I am assuming he still posts the same way, as I have had him in ignore for a while now).

People in Boston don't really eat crab cakes.
Really? Interesting.
Yeah, not really. Not really ever.
but crabcakes are good....

Crab cakes are really only good if one of two things is true - you have great crab available (San Francisco and Maryland must have the right water temperature, or something) or you have bad seafood and need to mix it with something to make it taste better. This is also known as the Red Lobster* approach.

* Attention Red Lobster employees: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Joe Bryant, David Dodds, or Sportsguys, LLC, or any other organization.

So do they pretend to eat crab cakes?

Yes. 100%. All Pats fans are bandwagon fans. He cant even get all of the stereotypes right. Crab cakes are Baltimore pal.Why would true Patriots fans shut up about IT? Our team is undefeated. Its a pretty good feeling. I dont live in Boston anymore but when I get to work every Monday (or Tuesday) morning, everyone in my office wants to talk to me about the Patritos and what does it feel like to root for a team that you know is going to win. These are Philly fans. They have had some of the most excrutiating losses a fan can go through in the past few years. They are not trashing the Patriots. They are envious. In a good way.
I never said anything about bandwagon fans, actually. And re: crab cakes, replace with "chowder" so we can move on.I don't care that Pats fans are glad their team is winning. That's the fun part of sports, celebrating victories and accomplishments and quality play. That's all fair game. Congrats on the great season. The things that have driven me crazy about Patriots fans this year are things like justifying Cameragate. "Everyone does it..." "It didn't affect the outcome..." Blah blah blah. IT'S AGAINST THE RULES. I'd fall over backwards if I heard an NE fan say, "I can't believe they did that. I never thought they'd be cheaters. I'm disappointed and hope that kind of thing doesn't represent the team I cheer for." It bothers me that the Patriots fans are taking it as a foregone conclusion that the team is going undefeated. In a best case scenario, they'll probably have to beat Jacksonville or San Diego, Indy, and Dallas, Green Bay, or Minnesota. (As an aside, I think that of everyone in the playoff picture, Minnesota presents some serious trouble for NE. What would AP do to that weak run D?). It bothers me that NE fans so easily forgot that less then 12 months ago, your team and your genius coach got outplayed and outcoached in Indy. On and on, it never ends. I have no problem with the Patriots. I'll say again: they are amazing to watch and play great football. It's the fans, pal. Deal.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Are you serious? NE would stack the line and make Jackson beat them with the pass, and that would never happen. Plus, Minnesota is better at defending the run than the pass, so Brady would pick them apart all day long. On a neutral field, the Patriots would beat the Vikings by at least 17, I think.

It is only obnoxious if you let it get to you. I live in Massachusetts and have followed the team forever. I was a fan when they were the door mat of the league and now that they are on top I am enjoying the ride. Are there haters on this board and every board,,,YES but only because of people that feel the need to thump their chest at every move the Patriots make. Just enjoy the ride and don't sweat the small stuff.

I agree, having read a bunch of Joe's posts, he's a hater. BUT WHO CARES? What he writes in his Random Shots is his perspective...that's it. Nothing more and nothing less. So, if you don't agree with him, don't read it. I personally stopped reading his Random Shots a couple of years ago. But that's only because, for me at least, there wasn't much fantasy football value. As long as the rest of the meaningful content is unbiased, I don't care.

Are the haters annoying? Sure, because a lot of them argue for the sake of arguing. Half of them don't make any sense and are unreasonable. Then there are the lovers who are equally annoying. Again, also blinded by their passion. But at the end of the day, it's only someone's opinion, not fact. The only relevant facts are shown in the stats and standings.

All of the Patriot bashing and jealousy stems from the collective opinions of Bill Belichick. Would we find hate for the Patriots and their winning ways if say, Tony Dungy was their coach? Who doesn't like Dungy? Belichick has become someone we just love to hate. He just has that way about him. Whether it's running up the score, wearing that cut-off hoodie that is far from the professional attire that Dan Reeves or Tom Landry so respectfully wore, or his feeble attempts at post-game handshakes, etc. Tell me where the likable actions and characteristics start, because I can't seem to find any.

It has become entertaining to mock the Patriots and their unprecedented ways of taking the league by storm, simply because that's the only way to get 'em - so far at least. The Patriots are the NFL's equivalent of Ken Jennings, without the boyish charm and Richie Cunningham looks.

It would be incredibly gratifying if the image of the Patriots was something that we could all be proud of. Something that would go along with their name. Perhaps this?. Instead, the majority of fans everywhere see them as more Like this

The bottom line, Patriots fans is that we're all insanely jealous. But it's a deeper, darker jealousy that can't be explained by the very definition. It's almost getting unfair. You're the 1980 Russian Hockey team and every opponent you face wants to be the Americans just waiting to get their crack against you. This story can only have a good ending. We don't care if you win the Super Bowl, but as long as one team can take away the perfection, we'll not be nearly as upset when you hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Show me a non-Patriots fan that doesn't want to see New England lose and I will find you a fan that doesn't like Tony Dungy.

(5 of those will be at home, btw)
I did slip the word "or" in there, so hating the Patriots is optional, and not definitive for all. You may not hate the Pats. You may only despise the fans. But 1) you can only speak for yourself, or your handful of associates. and 2) this is a cause and effect case. The Patriots fans wouldnt be so "insufferable" if the team wasnt so friggin' good. :X Just pokin' fun, man. I respect your opinion. I think.

Just saying that Minnesota isn't as bad a mathcup as it may appear at first glance.
