Is Nick's Worth a Keeper Slot? (1 Viewer)

That depends. Do you think that approx 1200 yds rec and 7 Tds in a down year makes for a good keeper?

Depends...in a Keep 1-3 league, I would say no. In a Keep 6+, I would say yes...gets a little gray (imo) when you get to Keep 4 or 5. In a PPR, for Keep 5, I would likely do it (unless I was stacked at WR)...the same situation in a Keep 4...that would be tougher.

He finished as WR 13 in my .5PPR and was just 6 points away from being top 10. He is young, so he is likely going to be looked at in that top 9-11 area for keeper value. If you have 12 teams in your league, chances are he will go in Keep 4 and higher and likely even in some Keep 3s. He really did not have a "bad" year. He played 2 more games than last year, but did have more yards in 2011 than 2010. TD drop off was tough (11 to 7), but that is hard to project.

Yep. there is a stat somewhere that shows the top 10 FF WR's each year and how many drop out the following year. Cruz is a candidate for that drop out. 1. He had some seriously fluke plays this year. 2. Teams will be trying to stop him now. Nicks was hurt some and barring injury, should put up better numbers in 2012.

To further examine this here are a few more questions:

1) do you think that victor cruz would have the same success he had this year if Hakeem nicks wasn't opposite him getting double covered? I don't thin so..

2) do you think that Cruz' 2011 performance will make defenders pay more attention to him next season? I sure do...

3) do you think that 2012 will see Cruz break as many long Tds from missed tackles in 2012 as 2011? I sure dont.

I think Cruz is a talented young #2 wr who had the stars align for him this year. Next year, he will be way overvalued in redraft leagues and nicks way undervalued. I think Cruz will fall short of the stats he put up in 2011 and nicks will beat his 2011 stats

But the bottom line is this: the giants passing offense is ere to stay for quite a while with Eli playing like Payton. This offense will be able to sustain 2 and maybe even 3 1000 yd wrs and 25-35 passing Tds for years to come. Nicks is a supreme talent in a great offense with a phenomenal qb who had a down year...which was still good by any means. He is a touchdown machine. The Tds will come back. Don't overreact.

I would keep these 32 players ahead of him.

QB (6): Rodgers, Newton, Brady, Brees, Stafford, Vick

RB (17): Rice, McCoy, Foster, Mathews, Forte, MJD, DMC, Peterson, Charles, Gore, FJax, SJax, Turner, Lynch, CJ1K, Murray, Wells

TE (2): Graham, Gronkowski

WR (7): Calvin, Fitz, AJG, AJ, Jennings, Welker, Roddy

After that it's a crapshoot of 6 WR

Nicks, Wallace, Cruz, Smith, Harvin, Jordy

So I think he's a fine keeper in most formats, but I would have no trouble dropping him if it increased my chances of getting Richardson or if I had better options.

I think Cruz helps Nicks' situation. Defenses will spend an off season planning for Cruz while still having to take Nicks into account. I don't think they can consistently stop them both. Hopefully Cruz scared them enough to make the safety cheat to the middle of the field a little making more room for Nicks.

I have Nicks and I am looking at trade possibilities right now, but he is not on the block. That may change, but for the moment I'm holding (and keeping).

We should also take into account that he had several dropped TD's, and IIRC a few overturned due to penalty as well. A few of those plays go his way and we're looking at 1200+ and 10+, while missing one game and being gimpy for several others, and this isn't even a question. He's one of the most talented young WR's in the NFL and absolutely worth keeping in any keep 3 or more league, and borderline in keep 2 leagues.

(on a side note, I think Brandon Marshall is a buy low for some of the same reasons Nicks is likely to be undervalued next season--he had something like 7 dropped TD's this season, and while he may always be prone to dropped passes ala TO, I think 7 dropped TD's is just a bit fluky... anyway, end hijack)

I think there's still some residual "sour grapes" influencing Nick's outlook for next year. Yes Cruz certainly overshadowed Nicks and many Nicks owners watched what Cruz did and thought, "Those numbers should be mine". Nicks played second fiddle fantasy wise most of the year yet quietly finished WR12 in my league - that's far from the "off-est" of off years. I see that as a floor of sorts next year.

even if cruz didnt produce owners would have been disappointed with nicks. he was generally drafted in the mid 2nd to early 3rd as the wr3-5. thats a fairly steep price.
