Is there any way to stop terrorism? (1 Viewer)

3 points:

1. We are crushing ISIS. They've lost 40% of their territory in the last year. They have suffered defeat after defeat in Syria and Iraq. Unfortunately with each defeat they become more desperate. We can expect more of these attacks on the future- it is far easier for them to strike at us through terror than to try to attack the coalition we set up.

2. The young people who join ISIS are not poor. They are often secularists who don't like their lives and who become converts for much the same reason in this country many people become born again Christians: to be "saved".

3. The whole refugee thing is a big misnomer. Most of these terrorists were born in the country they're attacking.

I don't really care! I am not sure how you can justify these 20 something year old men going into public places and killing innocent people who have never done anything to them. I understand that their religion supports and encourages them to kill all non muslims, that doesn't make it right imo but you go ahead and justify their actions ace.....
Justifying isn't the same thing as understanding all the reasons why terrorists were created.

Religious zealotry is one way.

Having your mom and sister blown up by a drone is another.

It's OK to be angry about terrorism and understand that the Western world had made it worse in many ways.

Let's not let facts get in the way, please.  How am I supposed to believe Trump's uneducated 'hot takes' when you throw these facts in my face?

The best way to to recognize terror for what it is - the terror is their weapon. As horrible as the loss of life is, it's so minor as compared with just about every other risk in life. In terms of the US, the act of driving, or the risk of being killed by an armed min terrorist is multiples higher than the risk of terror.

terror feeds off the visceral reactions we have when an attack occurs. However it is our reaction that provides the return on investment for a terror group as such actions are not going to in any way let them take over our country... We just give a little bit of our identity and freedom away every time some idiot like Cruz and the fools who agree with him want to create surveillance ghettos or when a racist like Trump and the racists who agree with him want to single out a specific group as if we learned nothing from Japanese internment camps.

want to get rid of terrorism? Be proud of our freedoms, recognize the issue in context and don't let them "win" by having us become more like thy are - cold, racist and selfish actors who bring no good to the world.

1. ISIS leadership is urging potential fighters to head to other areas like Libya in an attempt to control a portion of the Mediterranean coast. They are spreading out globally which makes them even more dangerous.

2. Many poor are drawn to ISIS because they pay more than what the average person can make. Make money and fight or live dirt poor and be slaughtered. Easy choice.

3. This is an argument that will not hold up long so use it while you can, I guess.

It can not be taken seriously since no politician will ever do anything about it. They will just sit around talking is all while radical muslims waltz around the world doing as they please.
Gotta love the internet tough guys - doing exactly what they are angry at the hippies and politicians for doing.

Waterboarding and other forms of torture would not end terrorism, but would drastically reduce terrorist attacks.

For example, the Paris attacker who was captured had full knowledge of the  imminent attacks in Brussels. Sufficient torture could have revealed this information, prevented the attack, saved 30 innocent lives, prevented countless physical injuries, and led to the arrest or ideally the death of multiple terrorists.

Which is more immoral? Torturing a worthless, savage, murderous animal as a means of saving the lives of countless good, innocent people? Or refusing to take those necessary actions and knowingly allowing the savage animal to murder countless good, innocent people?

When morality leads to death of the innocent, it becomes immoral.
Except for torture not being an effective or reliable way to get information?

Bull####. You just tried to justify it don't be a little phony when you just wrote it, own it.
Oh BS. Nobody is justifying it, that is the false narrative put forth by people like you.

Same people that have her understanding of Islam and think if the president calls it radical Islam in a speech that it will all go away.

No one thinks it will go away if he calls it what it is. Many people just feel that you can't begin to tackle an issue correctly if you don't address the underlying motives. This isn't just a game of whack-a-mole.

Sure, but that is their #1 criticism all the time (even Trump).  "he won't even call it radical Islam".

Of course...just not saying it in public speeches does not mean they don't understand the underlying motives and identify radical islam.  But that does not matter to so many people.

8 years of it from another administration and those same people were silent...didn't care.  They were fine with "axis of evil"...but the minute it was Obama, its suddenly a problem that he is not calling it that.

Yes. Anyone that states otherwise is pushing a personal agenda.
This is one giant reason why Trump supporters get a bad rap.  They post garbage like this.

Believe in this opinion piece and not the studies showing the opposite...otherwise you have an agenda.

Umm, its the other way around...when you continue to deny the studies to believe in op-ed pieces, you are the one pushing an agenda.

I bet you're one of the partisan, agenda-pushing hacks that deny it was the key factor in getting OBL. Which this administration is trying to hide from now.

The guy pushing an opinion piece as being the best otherwise you have an agenda...is calling someone else a partisan hack.

Crassic.

Peens is the best, the best!  He should be allowed to retire from the field of 64 and name the trophy after him.  All you other jokers are playing for 2nd and don't you ever forget it!

Em, you're a lightweight son.

I read today that someone who lives in Baltimore is 35 times more likely to be murdered than someone in Brussels.  Even with the terrible loss of life with this horrific event, where is the world outrage for those lives?

Thats why terror works.  We let it work. In context, far far worse horrors are accepted as a part of life, but these acts jarr us in a way to throw away our freedoms, deny fellow citizens basic rights, cause division and derision.

Our fear of being bombed near our homes will have us trade freedom for security even though we face far, far more dangerous realities everyday. And we will react with outrage magnitudes greater and therefore allow our enemy relatively easy victories.  Minimal impact, maximum reaction.

Terrorism is scary, but if we spent half the resources we do to prevent such attacks and invest them into domestic issues that address current crime and reduce future crime, how many more lives do we save (literally... thousands?  tens of thousands?)

The 24 hour media cycle has the ability to shape reality for a lot of people. If you were to hypothetically watch nothing but fox news (at times I have, pretending that it's satire) you'd be absolutely convinced that radical Muslims had infiltrated your neighborhood. Clearly, global terrorism isn't of little consequence but I wish people would try to gain some perspective. I mean, the odds of dying in a terrorist attack (worldwide) and being struck by lightning twice in your lifetime are about the same (1 in 9 million).

Thoughts and prayers to those that are suffering from the horrible attacks in Baghdad and Lahore. So sad. Another likely 50-70 dead, looks like many are children. I hope the world can work together to end this.

I guess we could just pull all of our interests out of the Middle East. Open up the east coast for off shore drilling and get NONE of our oil from there. Refuse to trade with them at all and let them work their own crap out amongst themselves.

Naturalization at Basic Training

USCIS established the Naturalization at Basic Training Initiative in August 2009 with the Army to give noncitizen enlistees the opportunity to naturalize when they graduate from basic training. Under this initiative, USCIS conducts all naturalization processing including the capture of biometrics, the naturalization interview and administration of the Oath of Allegiance on the military installation. Since 2009 USCIS has expanded the initiative to the Navy, Air Force, and finally to the Marine Corps in 2013, giving enlistees of these branches equal opportunity to (in most cases) leave basic training as U.S. citizens.
