Been hitting some job openings on CL and got back this email. It's the full email without their phone number at the bottom.

is this legit?

Thanks for your interest in our part-time car buyer position.

We are a licensed car wholesale dealer headquartered in New York. https://process.dmv.ny.gov/FacilityLookup/vsiqSearchFacNumResults.cfm?fac_num=7117196 We purchase and export lots of luxury cars to overseas countries. We are currently expanding our business so we need more buyers.

You will be one of our independent contractors. Your job is to buy BRAND NEW cars using our fund and then sell the cars back to our company. We pay you commission for doing this. No money will be taken out from your own pocket. We are unable to buy Brand New cars directly from the franchised dealerships because we will Export these cars later but the dealerships only want to sell these cars to individual customers, not resellers and exporters like us.

You compensation will be $500-2500/Car depends on the models and payment options. Read the following agreements and procedures thoroughly in order to get a better understanding of the work flow.

(1) You will need to sign the Independent Contractor Agreement which has been attached below. Then send back the signed agreement together with your driver license copy. We will conduct a background check for you.

(2) Once your application is approved, you will start to search cars immediately. We will give you the models we want. If the car is in stock, you will put down the deposit to secure this car (we will provide you the business credit card info). Then we will schedule a date to pick up this car with you. On the pick up date, our employee will meet you and bring you the bank certified check (you can verify it with bank before you use it). You just walk into the dealership and finish all paperwork. You will receive the first half commission when you give the car to our employee. Then our employee will ask the transportation company to carry the car back to NY warehouse.

(3) After you receive the title (usually within one month), sign the back of title to transfer the ownership. Then you mail the title to us, we will write you a check for your second half commission. Since we are licensed dealer, we do not have to pay sales tax when we repurchase  your car.

(4) If there is no in-stock or arriving-soon car, You will need to order the cars.  During the waiting period, you need to keep in touch with us. When your ordered car arrives, you must be available to pick up car with our employee. You will pick up this car with our bank certified check, and earn first half commission. Similarly, you will receive the remaining commission when you sign over the title to us.

(5) We will reimburse you every other cost including auto insurance and excise tax (if applicable) so no money will be taken from your pocket. That's it! You may start over and buy and sell us more cars.

You don't have any liabilities of this car. The car will stay in our warehouse in good condition while waiting for your title.

Buying the car with cash payment is acceptable in some dealerships, while f
inancing or leasing the car is more likely to succeed than a cash deal. This is because many dealerships have some requirements to sell these particular cars. So candidates with 650+ credit score are preferred.

We cover the down payment when you finance the car. Then we will pay off the loan immediately.

Please note,

The reason why we bear the risks to let buyers, not ourselves, to buy the car with our Bank Certified Check and titled under buyer's name, is that manufactures like BMW and Mercedes do not allow their US dealers to directly sell new cars to resellers and exported like us, since those cars will later be exported to other countries and will hurt Manufacturer's huge profit in these oversea markets. But non-export is only Manufacturer's policy, never the law.

Although this is just a part-time job, you can earn decent gains if you work hard. On average you will buy one to two cars per month. Our best buyers bought eleven cars in four months. In order to protect both of us and avoid any legal concerns, you need to sign a contract with us (see attached). Please don't forget to get the contract notarized. After you send us the notarized contract and your driver license copy, we will do a background check (criminal record, employment history and other aspects) to determine if you are a reliable buyer.

The real market for shipping luxury cars overseas are older ones with high mileage.  Those have much higher value overseas than here.  I don't see how buying new luxery cars and reselling them is profitable.

I'm assuming this is a scam too?

Reshipping scheme. I was the victim of this once in that I had someone steal my credit card info, order crap online, and have it delivered to one of these employees homes. They were then instructed to reship to one of the former Soviet republics and pay out of their own pocket for the shipping. They would get paid their salary and reimbursed for the shipping costs later. Of course when that time came the employer wouldn't pay and would disappear and move onto their next reshipping suckers. There was an older lady who lived in a nearby city that was taken advantage of in my situation. The police investigated and explained to her she was also the victim of this scam. She was just looking to make some money from a stay at home online job.

Everything I receive I treat as a scam until proven otherwise.

If there were real the company would have all their relatives and friends picking up cars for them.

so you're saying there's a chance.

That's how I got my last job.
Well, you are a genius.

I just got a text from a number I didn't recognize from California "good day. How are you today? "  now, I had interviewed for a job here with a company based in Sacramento, so I figured - well, maybe it's the HR guy but really weird way to start a conversation after a month of not talking.  So I asked who it was.  Apparently raytheonhealth got my number and selected me for an interview.  I have no ####### idea who raytheonhealth is, raytheon sure but that's not a health company (raytheon could have gotten my resume).

The person's text is just too unprofessional to take seriously.

I didn't get any texts just emails.

Both sound like overpay scams. They send you a large check, tell you to deposit it, wait for it to clear, then buy something that's less than the check. You get to keep the difference.

Scam is that checks never really clear. Your bank will release the funds, but, they don't know the account linked is bogus. Checks can be reversed up to two years later by your bank. You're out the whole amount of the check.
I'm not responding to either.

A legit company would ask to meet in person first.

...but in this case, he's not sending any money anywhere...at least not at first.  My understanding of those overpayment scams is that they overpay, then ask you to send the difference back to them, not keep it.

If this was the case, why wouldn't you just deposit the large check, keep all the cash, and tell them to go pound sand if it's a scam?  What's the worst that could happen?  The check gets reversed...OK, no big deal.  I guess the WORST that could happen is that the Triads show up to collect some fingers...

Do they operate in Texas?
