Is Vincent Jackson now dropable in redrafts? (1 Viewer)

Now that he has not been traded and the deadline has come and gone, what is the shark move in redraft leagues? Is he safe to drop or must he still be stashed? The guy is an incredible talent if he is in there, but will he play this year at all?

I am not real optimistic about his chances, but if you drafted him I would hold for another week anyway. He has a lot to lose by not playing at all, especially if there is a lock out (no money for two years???). The team has a lot to lose too.

In redraft leagues he is eating up a roster spot and the earliest conceivable time that he will play this year is week 10. With how badly AJ Smith and the Chargers screwed him, it's virtually assured that he is going to report for the minimum amount of time necessary to get his year of eligibility so that he can become a free agent next year and play for whoever offers him the biggest contract.

In a keeper or dynasty league he is obviously very well still worth tying up a roster spot for as his value next year and in the years to come after that play into the equation.

agreed. one week can't hurt. that said, if there is a real find as a free agent, i'd drop jackson for him.

I just dropped him to pick up the Dolphins as my second DST

He will play nowhere this year...

This is almost certainly not true. He has accrued enough years to be an unrestricted free agent in any year other than the uncapped year. So many players got screwed by the extra year of restricted free agency this year there is no chance that it will remain in the next collective bargaining agreement. He'll be a free agent when football resumes, so there is no reason for him to report, other than to collect a couple hundred thousand dollars. I don't think we see him this year (unless he gets traded, which is still possible).

Who are you trying to convince? I think I would have held out another week or 2 before dropping for a 2nd defense.

Why? So you can waste a roster spot? The Dolphins have been a formidable defense this year. Not to mention they have a great playoff schedule. I would have done the same thing. I dropped Jackson about 2 hours after the news came out. Redrafts absolutely drop him. Pick someone else up with upside, say Marshawn Lynch or Keiland Williams

If I owned him I would drop him in all but the deepest of leagues. I'm convinced that AJ Smith was offered decent value for Jackson and that he rejected trade offers out of spite/tough guy maintenance. In my opinion, Smith is trying to send a message to other potential holdouts that he won't play along.

I don't think Jackson reports at all this year, and I don't think he gets traded.

Dropped. I can't see how they work out their differences. If SD wanted to get any value from him this year they would have taken the best offer this week. Both sides seem to be willing to wait out the year.

To me, the chance he plays is lower than the chance that a flier on a backup like Williams sees valuable playing time. If SD sees significant injuries in their receiving corps then I could see something worked out. Even then, it isn't a sure thing.

It really just boils down to how deep your roster is whether you drop him or not. I've got him but just happen to have enough other WRs that I'm going to hold out until the NFL trade deadline unless there is a disaster on my fantasy team.

Ultimately just because he didn't get traded by yesterday doesn't mean that it is completely out of the realm of possibility that he couldn't still be dealt by the NFL deadline. If the Vikings happened to trade for him right now he'd be eligible to play in week 7 instead of week 6. Not saying it's a likely scenario but it could happen.

Someone dropped VJ in one of my leagues and I got out bid to pick him up. I got stuck with Michael Vick instead as my second choice. As my grandmother used to say, the dumbest farmers grow the biggest potatoes . . .

:lmao: If your roster is 16 or smaller, you should be dropping as that roster spot is more valuable used on something that can contribute. If your rosters are 18 or greater (preferably 20) then its a wait and see for couple more weeks, IMO. The other thing to consider is the amount of teams in your league. If you are 10 or fewer teams, he should be dropped as your waiver wire allows for other opportunities, but if you are 14 teams or greater, then I could see the justification in hanging on for a bit longer to see what happens.I do agree w/many of the posters who dont see him reporting before week 10, if at all(unless something changes).Disclosure: I do not own him in any of my leagues.

I think this is spot on. That said, in dynasty hang on to him. He could be catching balls from McNabb or Brady next year.
