Is your Hero really just a dirty player? (1 Viewer)

Would a good majority of the defensive players you looked up to growing up be considered dirty players and scumbags who should be banned from the NFL? I'm sure you can find a few of your favorites in here:

And there are literally dozens of videos like this, where someone you grew up idolizing, like Ronnie Lott for me, is leading with the head, hitting high, taking out a "defenseless receiver." I think we put too many restrictions on defenses today to play a certain way in the name of safety, and it has ruined some of the fabric that made football great and what it is today.

My favorite players played before Goodell and the players' union sissified football.

The only question is...

How many more years before it's two-hand tag on the QB?

I've found myself steadily losing interest in football as defense is legislated out of the game. This was a hot topic at my 20+-year league's draft this season. Most of the guys said the NFL is getting less enjoyable every year, and many said they're starting to find better things to do on Sundays. Can't say I'm far behind them, which is really sad.

Someone (ahem, Roger) is destroying a great game.

Nah, its just called getting old. It happens to everyone- you wake up one day and think about how the music you listened to was better than all the crap out there, how TV shows were better and how you didn't need a camera on your cell phone and got along just fine.

Fact is football is more popular than ever and the people watching are glad it isn't a 12-6 grind it out running game each week. Goodall is doing right by the owners and players by giving them the broadest fan base possible while also decreasing certain injuries. Sucks for a few fans but in general is a great move.

Back when Linemen were 270, you could hit like that....The players got bigger and stronger, but the ligaments, bones and skulls could not keep pace

The only Ronnie Lott bit in this video shows him hitting a receiver legally, with his shoulder. In fact, probably 80% of these hits look legal under today's rules.

this hit on Bavaro should be legal but would probably get a flag and fine today.
