He had a pretty good game yesterday. I think he'll get a lot of opportunities in preseason game 4 when most of the starters are rested. Then maybe we'll get a better idea of how good he is.'mere blitzianity said:Has Richardson looked decent in the pre-season? I never heard of him before
As a Jackson dynasty owner, I am considering gambling on Pead sliding into the mid second based on people reacting how you are.Pead has looked really bad. I am starting to wonder how many of Jackson's carries would go to Pead in the result of an inury. I used to think 80%+; now I'm not so sure. That hurts Jackson's value this season - no direct handcuff.
I don't think he will slide that far, but it could happen. I would happily use a late 1st on him, in most formats. I think he can be a productive player, and people I respect (F&L, Cossell, Fisher) really like him. As for re-draft, he a year away from being a consistent contributor. As a Jackson dynasty owner, I am considering gambling on Pead sliding into the mid second based on people reacting how you are.Pead has looked really bad. Only bright spot on the Rams team tonight.Richardson outplaying Pead again...![]()
pead has looked better on returns than in an offensive set. looks to have value in return type leagues even with a few touches here or there on offense. Right now as a runner his early return suggest "project" as being really nice.Pead looking more like a project than an impact. If SJax went down I wouldn't get too excited about Pead right now.
Good Call East Bay, Richardson is stealing some of Pead's thunder. http://www.foxsports...897&feedID=3586I am more interested in his unheralded challenger, Daryl Richardson. Freak athlete out of Abilene Christian that the Rams took in the 7th round. He is obviously much more of a longshot than Pead, but has better raw athletic gifts and is available on waivers in all of my dynasty leagues.

Not all of us play in 8-team Yahoo Public leagues. Pead has plenty of value in competitive, deep leagues.None of the Ram backs not named Steven Jackson are worth owning, period, in any format. Bad enough that if they get forced into action this year, and you have to rely on them, your season is over anyway. Bad enough that in the long term, meaning anywhere beyond this season, they're not going to feature in the Rams' roster building plans.Don't waste your time here. Not with handcuffing. Not with dynasty. Plenty of backups around the NFL with promise.

CBS shows Pead in on the third play of the game in wildcat formation. For anyone monitoring this situation, Richardson was the first RB off the bench for the Rams in tonight's game.
Ah, that's true. That was just one play though and it was wildcat by design. Richardson was in for both snaps after they recovered a fumble deep in Baltimore territory and scored. The announcers mentioned it and were surprised to see him in there ahead of Pead.CBS shows Pead in on the third play of the game in wildcat formation. For anyone monitoring this situation, Richardson was the first RB off the bench for the Rams in tonight's game.
Richardson looks better than Pead though. Just looks like a better player. And judging by tonight, he has already passed him on the depth chart.Doesn't mean Pead's career is over, but you definitely have to grab Richardson as insurance if you still can.If it makes buying Pead cheaper I'm all for it. Fisher will burn SJax out inside of 4-5 weeks, no one will be able to handle the ball 20 times a game. Pead like a lot of rookie will start slow but by the 2nd half of the season I expect bigger returns. Pead was a 2nd round pick IIRC.
Richardson is the #2 man. Pead is a special teamer.Richardson with two carries for 20 yards against Detroit. Pead with no offensive touches. Could be a big payoff here if Richardson can impress the staff enough to be the guy when Jackson finally breaks down.
I have no doubt Jackson will be elsewhere next year, but I'm not looking to grab/hold Pead. He looked very mediocre from what I saw this year. I suspect the Rams will be content to roll with Richardson, and draft a mid-to-late round RB, and let he and Pead compete for backup, with an outside chance at starter.I think he is a hold RN. My opinion is Jackson will be gone,I believe his contract is up. I doubt that the rams make RB a priority in the draft.
You may be exactly correct. i have no quality argument against it. I just figured that when they drafted pead. They at least hoped he could be their future rb. Not the same with Richardson, He is more of a pleasant surprise for them. So while I would expect richardson to have a very definitive advantage going into next season. I still think pead will be given an opportunity to compete for the job. And you never know what a player will do with a year under his belt to learn, and an opportunity. look what arian foster did. Personally if I have a player on my roster who i think at least has a shot at an open rb spot. I'll wait until he proves he can't do it. instead of hoping I can pick him up after he proves he can.My theory would be different if jackson was coming back or if a decent free agent is signed.I have no doubt Jackson will be elsewhere next year, but I'm not looking to grab/hold Pead. Around the League will profile the top 40 players we see Making a Leap in 2013.
No. 40. Isaiah PeadWhy he's on the listHead coach Jeff Fisher saw traits that reminded him of Chris Johnson when the St. Louis Rams selected the University of Cincinnati's Isaiah Pead with the No. 50 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Pead also drew comparisons to Jamaal Charles and LeSean McCoy as an undersized but physical back with open-field instincts, explosive short-area bursts and natural pass-catching ability.
The Rams immediately viewed Pead as the successor to Steven Jackson rather than a complementary back. Fisher reiterated that stance February. "We drafted Isaiah because we felt like he has a chance to be a good back," Fisher said. "Not necessarily just a change of pace back for 'Jack,' but the guy."
Now that Jackson is off to greener pastures in Atlanta, the Rams' backfield is free for the taking. Daryl Richardson is a satellite back, best used in space as the secondary runner. Fifth-rounder Zac Stacy is already a trendy sleeper in fantasy football circles, but it's exceedingly rare for a late-round rookie to dominate carries from the get-go. Alfred Morris is the exception, not the rule. Pead should be viewed as the early leader in the Rams' committee attack by dint of Fisher's expectations and his own talent edge.
Pead turned in one of the faster 10-yard splits at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine. That short-area bust was evident on a 19-yard scamper in garbage time of the Week 8 blowout loss to the New England Patriots. Pead puts his foot in the ground, makes a sharp cut to break a tackle and forces two more defenders to miss in the open field. Although he had just a dozen carries on the season, Pead also ran tough inside when the play called for it.
The Rams drafted Pead in large part for his potential in the passing game. The coaching staff trusted him enough to line him up out wide for a nine-yard bubble screen late in overtime of the Week 10 tie versus the San Francisco 49ers.
ObstaclesPead is coming off a "miserable" rookie season. His career started behind the eight ball after missing offseason practices due to a late graduation date. He was lost in the playbook, ran tentatively and never played with confidence while ceding the backup job to Richardson.
Still learning how to be a pro, Pead was late to several practices and had his work ethic called into question. The character concerns haven't gone away thanks to a one-game suspension stemming from a July 2012 arrest for marijuana possession, though Fisher has been pleased with a more professional approach this offseason.
If he's going to hold off Richardson and Stacy, Pead must show improvement in several areas. He whiffed too often in pass protection and fumbled twice in 23 touches. After playing primarily out of spread and pistol sets in college, Pead will also have to prove he can move the chains while curbing his tendency to break runs to the outside.
2013 ExpectationsIs Pead a legitimate candidate to make the leap in a Rams committee attack? He is ESPN insider Adam Schefter's choice for NFC breakout player this season, which is noteworthy due to the ESPN insider's tight relationship with Fisher's camp.
Pead's talent edge and the Rams' second-round investment leave little doubt that he will be given every opportunity to win the starting job. The question is whether he can live up to those lofty post-draft comparisons. Pead doesn't possess the game-breaking speed of Johnson and Charles, but the Rams would settle for a poor man's McCoy.

Isaiah Pead's one-game suspension stems from a July 2012 arrest for possession of two ounces of marijuana.
The details of Pead's one-game ban initially went undisclosed as neither the NFL nor its players are under any obligation to explain suspensions. Coach Jeff Fisher has publicly supported Pead, who is almost a year removed from the violation and insists he's in a better place "mentally" after a lost rookie year.

Coach Jeff Fisher says Isaiah Pead's one-game suspension will have no bearing on the Rams' running back competition.
"Not whatsoever," Fisher said Thursday. "He’s not going to be penalized as far as reps and carries during the preseason. We’re getting ready for a long haul, and we’ll be without him for one week, which we understand, but it doesn’t complicate things." The fact that the Rams aren't taking a tough-love approach with their second-year back suggests he remains their preferred lead runner. Zac Stacy and Daryl Richardson are going to get a lot of hype this summer, but Pead remains our best guess to replace Steven Jackson on early downs.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher threw support behind Isaiah Pead following his one-game suspension for a substance-abuse violation.
The Rams know Pead is their most talented back. So they are propping him up instead of pushing him down. They need him. "He obviously has to suffer the consequences and miss the game," said Fisher. "But I'm pleased with how he's bounced back and his professional approach to being a member of this team." We still like Pead's chances of leading St. Louis in carries this season.

The Rams reportedly knew about Isaiah Pead's one-game suspension "for months" and maintain "high expectations" for the 2012 second-round pick.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the one-game ban stems from a "minor violation" from last year. Profootballtalk's Mike Florio speculates it resulted from some "previously unknown violation of law." The NFL does not have to disclose reasons for suspensions, and nor does Pead's camp. Ultimately, the one-game suspension could affect Pead's ADP and make him a better draft-day value.

Rams second-year RB Isaiah Pead attributed his slow first season to falling behind due to the NFL rule that prevents rookies from attending offseason workouts when their colleges are on the quarter system.
"The crazy thing was, I wasn’t even in school at the time," said Pead, who admitted his rookie season was "miserable" because he was so far behind. "I was just sitting around. I had a playbook, but I couldn’t explain it to myself. I missed all but a week of (offseason practices) last year, so this year, I just feel like I’m that much farther along." In a "wide open" camp battle, Pead will battle Daryl Richardson and rookie Zac Stacy for the starting tailback job.

Coach Jeff Fisher confirmed that RB Isaiah Pead is in the mix to start this season.
Pead barely got off the bench as a rookie, receiving just 10 carries all season as he fell behind Daryl Richardson. Now there's a massive opportunity with Steven Jackson in Atlanta, and Fisher hasn't lost faith in his second-round pick. "He'll get his opportunity this year. ... He's got a chance to make a lot of big plays for us." Like most young backs, Pead needs to show improvement in ball security and pass protection. But he has more upside than Richardson as a superior inside runner, and is the current favorite to lead this committee. The Rams will also add more talent to the position, possibly via April's draft.

Because this year, he won't be missing the entire offseason and the Coach is constantly talking him up?eta- for those of you who think the NFL draft process is an efficient one and that Pead will be the lead RB because he was drafted in the 2nd round. I would like to remind you that this 2nd round pick already lost playing time to a 7th round pick last season, so why wouldn't a 5th round pick beat him out too?
