J-E-T-S Fans - Fire Mangini & Bench Chad (1 Viewer)

Why did they lose Kendall? He was claiming they had a handshake agreement for a million dollar raise?I've also heard that he was the player rep for the team and he had a big mouth. Why did he leave?
The year before, the Jets didn't want to keep Kendall - They were rebuilding the OL and wanted a fresh start with fresh voices- Mawae was let go and then Kendall was basically told he'd be let go..Then at the last minute, The Jets presented him with a Teamn favorable contract and said take it or see what else you can get... Kendall and his agent Signed the deal... And while the Jets didn't love Kendall they at least knew they locked up a Vet for a while and had no problems and had a good piece to help the young guys and build the OL...The following offseason, OL money Sky rockets and the market changes...Now all of a sudden Kendal claimes there was an under the table deal for more money. The Jets feel Blindsided and feel like they can't redo a contract after 1 year since they have a line of players that could get right behind him and set a real bad precident..... It makes no sense in the world for the Jets to have told Pete about more money under the table, and Pete and his agent NOT to get it in the contract....The Jets hold strong and hope Kendall will be professional and just play out the Contract HE SIGNED...Well, no go - He's got the press in his pocket and they make it look like Kendall actually gave money back and is the victim in all this.... While the media pretends they don't know the difference between NFL Non-Guaranteed money and a Signing Bonus whcih Pete collected on his new dealKendall saw a market rise in OL salaries and decided to Point a Gun at their heads and use the media for leverage........And it worked.... Pete walked away with over FIVE MILLION DOLLARS Last year with that Bonus and salary - The Bonus was supposed to be spread over years but, Pete and his agent found a way tpo STEAL it. IS PETE KENDALL A FIVE MILLION DOLLAR GUARD?????????Pete Kendall is 100% Grade A TURD.. That's why they let him go in ARZ as well...A TEAM PLAYER honors his contract and once his deal is done concentrates on the Super Bowl and Improving the TEAM not angles to Steal money.
Didn't they give RG Brandon Moore giving him $1 mill more this year even though he had 3 years left on his original deal? I guess it depends on who you listen to in these discussions but players hold up teams all the time and teams cut players when it suits them, it's all part of the game. At the end of the day though I think this team is better with Kendall than without.
Brandon Moore didn't JUST sign a deal the year before.... *EDIT He was in YEAR FOUR of a SIX YEAR DEAL..... A TON of deals are reworked that late in acontract and a lot of times those years are there to be reworked...... And now, of course he got starter money.I'd like to see a list of players who sign a long term deal, play 1 season and then ask for more money the very next offseason...Moore was underpaid and was a now a STARTER, I think that's the difference....... Kendall was paid well and as it turned out he was overpaid at 5 Million dollars for last season.

Gotta love Jets fans.
I highly doubt firing Mangini is something a lot of Jet fans are thinking or saying at this point...GB taking one fan's ridiculous comment and labeling "Jet fans" with it....The Jets need a Big ### NT and a Big ### OL.....It's that simple - from day 1, If I'm the GM, and I want to run a 3-4 I sell my soul to get a 3-4 NT and then I continue to build the OL.... They started with Mangold and Brick but, then let the rest fall to pieces... I said in the offseason there was no reason in the world for that OL to deteriorate - They had 3/5 locked up and needed to ADD another piece or two - Instead they lose Kendall. Then there's the question of Chad. Chad could be a decent QB, IF everything else was dominant. It's not. So, they need to see what KC can do and if they need to get a QB next year....
First off, I am as big a JETS fan as either you or Gang Green, just because I don't have a Chad Fathead poster as my icon or over my bed.I am not looking at wins/losses in Year 2, I am critically looking at the PROCESS. I don't like what I see.Year 2 is much more indicative of what a new coaching/front office is bringing to the table than eeking out 10 wins in what was a fairly soft schedule.Mangini is fair game for criticism as is Tannenbaum, they do not have the Resumes with which to justify a 4 to 5 year honeymoon.#1 The Pete Kendell debacle lays directly on the shoulders of both Mangini/Tannenbaum as it is clear that their offensive line and in particular their run blocking is worse without him.#2 First round trade up mulligans are fine for experienced front offices -- the 30something brain trust of the JETS appears to have whiffed with Da Brick -- Ferguson. He looks weak, lacking the physicality that a franchise LT should possess.#3 They need to do the right thing NOW at the QB position. #4 I do put lack of fundamental tackling skills and effort on the backs of the coaching staff. The JETS are a "soft team", very similar to the mid section of Mangini. They have just lost 2 winnable games. They are going in the wrong direction.
Way off on how D'Brick is weak. The guy kept Umenyori out of Chads face mostly all game....and after the schooling he gave Winston Justice last week, that alone is a hell of a job. He is in his 2nd year and is getting better each week. I really dont see how you can say he is weak. His pass blocking is fine, however it is on his run blocking that his inexperience shows, as he is unable to get the corner sealed for the RB on the outside rushes to the edge. For the Jets to be successful they will need to pound the ball between the tackles early and often to keep the OLB from creeping around the edge to much.Revis is going through what any starting rookie corner does. He gets tested early and often, and so far has done a good job. Dyson and Barrett have looked terrible all year and are part of the reason the Jets pass-D is attrocious. Also with Rhodes playing more in coverage, the big play ability is limited.I think its time they come to terms with the fact they do not have the personel or a 3-4. You made Vilma go from one of the best LB's in the game to a out of place lane blocker with this scheme. If they would just acknowledge it and go to the 4-3 the run-D would be much better and in turn help the CB's and Safeties.Chad has 2 more weeks to turn the ship around or its Kellens time, and then Mangini will need to really keep the playcalling conservative, so sorry if I am not too enthused about it.Overachieve one season and coming back to reality the next is quite common, hell....i'm just glad that I'm not a Saints fan. That team had letdown written all over it coming off last year.

I don't buy all this 4-3 Vs 3-4 stuff.... I think they play more 4-3 out of the 3-4 front and No matter what defense they play they STILL need a big body DT to play next to Ferguson...The Jets couldn't stop the run in forever...... As Mangini says, THEY RUN 4-3.... The 3-4 front is just a way to disguise what they are doing and where the blitz might come from.... Making Bryan Thomas start from a DL position instead of a standing LB isn't the quick fix people make it out to be.And as for Vilma, there's a lot of plays this year where he's out in space and Still isn't making the tackle, nothing to do with a Guard blocking him or a system -just blown plays and the guy just might be a tad overrated....Bottom line - The Defense needs a MONSTER DT no matter what system they play.

Anyone know off hand what the Jets gave up to move up in Round 1 to snag Revis?
Reaper? I thought you wanted me to talk about FOOTBALL with you? Can you field this question?
Think it was a late 2nd rd pick and a 2nd day oickGave up their 3rd to move up in the 2nd for HarrisRevis will be fine - growing pains for a young CB
:mellow:Revis has played incredibly well so far. He's easily exceeded any expectations I've had. He seems destined for some trips to Hawaii in his career. He's that good.If nothing else comes from out of this year, it's knowing that the Jets finally have a shutdown corner. It's been a very long time since the Jets have had one.

As a huge Jet fan here are my observationsCoaching - MAngini has lost his edge - he played very aggressive last year - now he kicks on 4th and inches and adopted the herman dink and dunk offense. He is also showing that he is too stubborn in sticking with his sinking QB and staying with a 3-4 Def that the team is just not suited for at this time. Also - you spend all this money and a pick for T Jones and you run him 12 times a game in close games the past 2 weeks - WHY? You know he is a power back that needs 25 carries to wear down a defense - look at what happened when he ran it 20+ vs Miami?
Mangini's insistence to punt on 4th down has cost the team severely. I think it might have cost them the Buffalo game, and he's done it in the NWE and NYG game, too. Pathetic.Very disappointed to see Mangini do this.

Chase - why do you think this happens with coaches? Everyone loves an aggressive coach - very rare to have the fans kill you for being aggressive and it fires up the team. I always thought that it sends a message to your offense if your coach doesnt think you can get 6 inches on 4th down! Also he showed lots of aggressive down field strikes last year vs this years Herm like dinks and dunks - if its Chad then why start him? Finally 12 carries a game for TJ in a close game? WTF! I really dont like what I've seen from Mangini this year - growing pains for a young coach Still think he will be a keeper

I've been bitter I have him on my Developemental Squad and not active this year - he's looked really good, much better, much sooner than I expected.Course, compared to the rest of the D.....

It's just incredible how good he's looked as a rookie since day one. In the first pre-season game against the Giants he was terrific. He's playing as well as any Jets rookie since Abraham and Douglas. Been even better than Vilma. He's not going to be a good fantasy option because teams consciously throw the other way. Part of that is how good he is, and, of course, part of that is who is on the other side. :puke:

I don't really know why he's been less aggressive. Some felt his 4th down decision cost the team the game against the Colts last year, but that was very early in the season. Coaches, in general, are risk averse. It's more true for established coaches, or ones with good reputations. As a rookie HC, you actually have to do well to be recognized. Mangini nearly won COY, and he's built up some respect in the media/fans. If the team loses because he goes for it, he looks worse. If the team loses because the Jets punt, people think the Jets aren't that talented.I like Mangini a lot, so I'm not too worried. He's not having a good year, but that happens.

Chad - the time has come to see what the kid can do - Chads arm has gotten so weak that in order for him to make a good play everyhting has to be perfect - he has no margin for error and he has been making dumb plays that he never would have made in his prime. You cant be a cerebral QB that relies on smarts and make so many dumb passesDef - not suited for the 3-4 - either get the huge NT or move to the 4-3 already. Looks like one of those years - I am not giving up on Mangini but he has to show that spark that he had last year - the Jet ship be sinking and only by making some bold moves will he have a shot - go iwth KC and move back to the 4-3 IMO. At least D'Brick hasbeen solid with MAngold so the OL should be decent with some additions next year.
:goodposting: i pretty much posted this same thing yesterday. vilma and robertson are totally useless in the 3-4. Ellis is weakened. The only guy that benefits is thomas, and he's still far from a star. Bottom line, this team needs to either pay out the ### for a NT or move the hell back to the 4-3. At this point, this season is looking like LSU's Glen Dorsey or bust. We need to do what ever we must to draft him, (if they insist on staying with the 3-4)take a guard or RT in the 2nd, get the best available FA guard or RT to fill the other spot, and get this thing back on track. Looking back on it, it almost seems like the jets were set up for chad to fail this year. They bought him no o-line help, used their first rounder on a position that generally develops slowly (CB) and did not address the team's lack of a pass rush. Maybe the regime wants a 5-11 finish and experience for Clemens. At this point, it wouldnt surprise me.

Nice to see some balance from other JET fans with a critical eye and not just the party line from apologists.

#1 The JETS do not get a pass on Kendell just because he is deemed an #####. Not sure I agree with this characterization,.Managing contracts is part of the game. Management/Mangini made a PUBLIC EXAMPLE of Kendell. Good managment either works things out behind the scenes and milks another productive year out of Kendell OR cuts ties now but only to the extent that they have a replacement part as good as the starter. The JETS failed to do either acceptable outcome. This was not a T.O. situation, circa Philly 2005. Kendell could have easily been managed. Btw, Ferguson through his father on Sirius indicated how much he relied on Kendell being next to him last year, perhaps as a crutch to explain is poor play as his QB was carried off the field earlier in the year

#2 Ferguson. Yes, his pass blocking has been much better the last 2 games. Bravo, that is his "strength" and we have finally seen it in his 20th and 21st NFL game. He was the #1 OT taken in the draft and suppose to have been "NFL-ready" in that regard, yet needed quite a bit of double team help in his first 18 NFL games. Run blocking is still below average. The jury is still out, but so far he seems to be generating a "return on investment" similar to that produced by Robertson (another Top 5 overall pick) than that benchmark of an Ogden, Pace, Samuels. His strength is an issue. Last year he was too weak. He probably weighed ~ 290 lbs during the season on a 6'7" frame. To the eye he doesn't look that much different this year, but maybe he is a bit stronger.

#3 I have not been impressed in 2007 by Mangini's "game management". Bumbling decisions on 4th down late in the game. Conservative play-calling when the team needs to get down the field. Awful clock management at the end of the 1st half of the Giants' game when they were handed a turnover.

I started this thread to generate some discussion, not with any intent that Mangini would/should be fired on the spot after Game 5. However, if I don't see meaningful improvement in the toughness of this team, personnel usage and game management by Mangini during the next 11 games, I think that he is fair game to be "evaluated" during this off season.
