News: The Newark Star-Ledger reports that Giants RB Brandon Jacobs doesn't have any damage in his swollen knee based on an MRI done on Monday, according to a team source. But in an interview on ESPN, Jacobs said that he doesn't think the team will let him play in Week 12, citing that the Giants have enough running backs behind him to work in his place and let his knee rest.

Analysis: We'd like to hear something official from head coach Tom Coughlin on this, but that may not happen until later in the week. For now, figure that Jacobs will start in Week 12 at Arizona, but it's probably a good idea to get a backup plan in place if you don't have one already just in case he doesn't play. We'll be sure to stay locked in on all news involving Jacobs in the coming days.

 
I heard Jacobs get interviewed live on Mike & Mike this morning (~7:45am Eastern) and he didn't say much about the injury except that the MRI was precautionary and it looks good. I wouldn't blame the Giants if he is sore by Sunday to give him a week off given what Ward/Bradshaw are capable of.

 
Once they clinch, I'd full expect D. Ward and Bradshaw to play the rest of the way. If Jacobs is questionable, I don't see a reason to play him and risk it.

 
This team will repeat in the Superbowl if they keep Jacobs healthy for the playoffs. They are so dominant on both sides of the line that they will probably win it no matter who is at RB. They are smart to be cautious here.

 
I own both Jacobs and Ward but I hope Jacobs play. He is an absolute beast and I love watching him score TDs. Ward should have a solid game vs ARI but Im not sure if the TDs will be there.

 
The problem is that if Jacobs isn't there then you just have to guess who'll get the most of the leftovers between Ward & Bradshaw. Logic would lean to Ward but don't be surprised to see Bradshaw HEAVILY involved.

 
I think they will give him the week off against Arizona, and then revisit where things stand next week. At 9-1, with extremely capable backups, there's no sense in exposing Jacobs to the risk of turning a minor injury into a major one. That's the prudent play, and the Giants are as prudent an organization as exists in the NFL.

I wouldn't be so sure. Ward is DEFINATELY the play here. Bradshaw, inspite of his phenomenal skills, has been on the pine This season has been the Jacobs and Ward show wth Bradshaw getting the occasional look. Since Bradshaw doesn't fit the Jacobs ground and pound profile, I don't know why he'd jump Ward on the depth chart.I'd expect a 70-30 Ward favored split next week, at a minimum, if Jacobs is out.
 
Lets not forget how much credit NYG got last year for keeping the pedal to the floor against the PATS in the regular season finale. I don't see them letting up unless he is pretty banged up.

Like I said... Logic dictates Ward but every time mop-up duty comes it always seems to be a pretty good split with Ward getting more of the receptions out of the backfield while Bradshaw get's the carries. It will definitely be interesting! I was hoping to nab some other up and coming RB with my last pickup before the playoffs but I think I need to be safe and grab Bradshaw off the scrap heap as an extra insurance policy.

Coughlin does have the homefield Carrot to dangle, which will take them through Week 16 vs. Carolina, so long as they are within a game of each other, which I expect. The Giants will have a momentum speedbumb regardless, because right now, they seem a great chance at having a bye at minimum, so I don't know if the pedal to the metal is still applicable anyway. If they play their game, I feel good about things.

Like I said... Anything can happen, and I agree with you philosophically, I think Bradshaw is just a really special football player. But Coughlin has played it the way he's played it for two seasons now. Last year, when Jacobs was dinged and even when he wasn't, Ward was in that Tiki role and expecting more from Bradshaw is hope in my opinion.That said, I think Bradshaw is worth rostering, but if I'm choosing a starter on the FF team this week, Ward is head and shoulders above, IMO.

That's a very prudent answer, but I don't like it! :wub: Yes, I'm a Jacobs owner. But I wont try and sell anyone on the fact that I expect him to play. Highly improbable he suits up this week in my view. But, as a man of hope, what if they are using this so Arizona has to prepare for Bradshaw/Ward and then Jacobs is a surprise start? After all, this is an important game. Arizona is 7-3 amd a loss to them puts the G-Men only one game ahead of AZ and likely tied with Carolina in the conference. So despite the fact that I don't think he will play, you can't take away my hope.
 
Curious as to where this puts Ward in terms of the FBGs rankings for the week.

If I had to take a guess, Ward is the play, with Bradshaw maybe seeing enough work to warrant a deep league or flex play.

 
A bit off topic, but something I was just thinking about.

In regards to New York's RB rotation of playing Jacobs mainly in the 1st half, and the other two in the 2nd half of games. Obviously, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But wouldn't the rotation be even more effective if you started the game with Ward and Bradshaw, then unleashed that beast on defenses in the 2nd half when they are tired and don't feel like tackling anybody? Just a thought.

 
Even before this news, I was amazed that Ward is only on teams in ~2/3 of ESPN leagues. He's 29th in points in my league. If Jacobs misses any weeks I like Ward as an RB2.

I have this exact thought every week. I suspect it may be because Jacobs comes out with such force and hits them right in the mouth that they are physically exhausted by the end of the second quarter. Although Ward may make them chase him around, I think trying to tackle a 265lb 4.5 forty guy is much more taxing, making their legs heavy and harder to run full steam after Ward who is shiftier. I understand what you are saying - make them chase first, then hit them in the mouth when they are tired - and I can't disagree. I just think that you said it best, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Yes, because he pummeled them for the other three quarters. same philosophy, you're just replacing 4Q Bus with Wind and Fire.
 
I think that the way the Giants do the combo is more effective, and makes more sense. Assuming that defenses really get wore out by chasing down defenders is assuming quite a bit. A lot of times that sort of running game never gets going, and is always harder to get going early in the game. So, bringing in a slower, more physical running back in the 4th quarter won't always have the effect that you are looking for. However, slamming a guy like Jacobs down your face for 3 quarters, and really beating up defenders will ALWAYS wear them down. Trying to drag down this big running back, and taking a hard hit from that running back when you do get to him is going to wear you down. Then... once the defense is slowed down, and beat up... it is MUCH easier for those faster backs to break big runs off, and outrun defenders down the field, beat them to the corner, ect...

New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs did an interview on Sirius Radio Tuesday morning, and seemed upbeat. "I feel pretty good. I feel way better than I felt Sunday after the game. I did the same thing I did against Dallas last year but it's nowhere near as bad as it was then. I'll be fine. It's my call and we'll be all right."

IMO this sounds like he is going to play?? Do you guys read it that way?

who is pac man? are you saying Adam "Pac Man" Jones has a radio show in NC?what was the context of what was said ... did they give a source for the info?i am finding this very hard to believe given that Jacobs made the rounds on many radio shows today and the consensus was that the precautionary MRI was negative and that he was questionable for week 12 ... this info really contradicts everything else we heard today
 
Following the way it was reported, I think he revealed that he's okay but the team wanted to keep their opponent guessing. It seemed like right after the injury he (and his agent) were telling anyone who would listen that he's fine. Maybe he was told to be more vague and make the Cardinals speculate.

I think maybe they're trying to put some guesswork back into it, and will continue by holding him out of practice Wed and limiting him on Thursday. But I think most expect Jacobs out there while the Giants were hoping to make it an up-in-the-air GTD.

 
Don't forget, the Giants have had alot of comfortable leads in the 4th quarter this year. Thats not the only reason they have rested Jacobs, but it does somewhat negatively skew his 4th quarter carries for the year.

 
As a Giants homer and fan... sit em. We have played good enough to get a decent lead in our division. Ward and Bradshaw are more then decent to carry us for a couple of games. Let Jacobs get healthy, we'll need him for the playoffs.

I'm another fan, homer, and BJ owner. I'm 50/50 on this one. If our trade deadline didn't just pass I'd deal him so I can just relax and watch the G-Men continue to dominate. As a fan...sit himAs an owner...play him for the love of god
 
Hate to add to the confusion over Brandon Jacobs and his availability this week – he’s been giving a few mildly different answers to different outlets throughout the day – but I caught up with him tonight and here’s what he told me:“There’s not any doubt in my mind at all, I feel like I can go,” he said. “I don’t know how coach is going to take it. It’s his call, basically. However they put it, I just have to listen to them and take it how they give it to me. But I feel like I’m good to go.”Jacobs was at an apartment in Manhattan for the launch of a partnership between Xbox 360 and Netflix that lets users download movies through their game console and watch them on TV. He and his wife Kim visited with some contest winners and watched “Ratatouille.”On the subject of how he was injured, Jacobs said it happened on the first touchdown run when Ed Reed came in and hit his knee while his foot was still planted on the turf. “He put a little ding in it,” he said. “No bog deal, just a little swelling.”There’ll be more on Jacobs in the paper tomorrow, including his take on his impending free agency. Per Fanball, Jacobs said he is "good to go" Sunday.

Whether or not he'll actually be cleared to play is another matter.

 
Seems like the title should be Jacobs may play Sunday instead. A lot more supporting that angle than the not playing angle.

its actually a 20 team dynasty league. My Commish actually passed this through a few years back because he lost because of teams resting their starters. But oh well. it works. i like my Matchups way better now.
 
For what it's worth - A Beat writer was just on the radio talking about practice today saying he was running and catching passes and "looked like a Gazelle" or is that Gisselle?
