Jahvid Best officially placed on PUP (1 Viewer)

Didn't see this here yet. I wonder if he's ever going to step on the field again.

(RotoWire) The Lions have placed Best (concussion) on the PUP list to start the season, the Detroit News reports. As a result, Best is ineligible to play in the first six weeks of the upcoming season.

Pay this kid, somehow, without impacting cap.. Let him go... Explain to him it ain't worth it...partial contract.... Has to be a way out for both parties.. I think Collie is headed this direction too

They were discussing this on Sirius NFL radio and how the Lions should make a pitch for Chris Ivory. Why would they start the season with the lack of depth they have right now?
Even though his numbers didn't show it, I was impressed with the way Leshoure ran the other night

He would be certifiably insane to even attempt a comeback if he is still having issues from concussions.
Yeah, he ought to have his head examined! Oh wait...But seriously, if he shows up concussion symptom free at some point (I think that's already the case, am I wrong?), can a team really still refuse to play him for his own good indefinitely? You know the player is always going to want to play. It's a tough moral and ethical question.

I think in today's "Kinder and Gentler" NFL, the answer may be Yes. If a team lets him suit up and something unthinkable (but very possible) happens, the bad Pub on the team and NFL would be unprecedented.

Saw this on roto this morning:

After moving him to reserve/PUP Monday, Lions coach Jim Schwartz indicated that medical experts wanted Jahvid Best at least a year removed from his last concussion before returning to the football field.Best's last concussion occurred on October 16 last year. This year, he'll be ineligible to play before October 22. "That’s within the range of where the doctors wanted him to be, so it made it an easy decision — or an easier decision," Schwartz explained. "... He’s looked extremely good in all his physical stuff and as soon as we can get him back and get clearance, we will." Aug 28 - 8:17 AM

Kinda sounds like he might give it a go after week 7? If not, why wouldn't Detroit just cut the guy?

Good stuff. Thanks. That reasoning makes a lot of "real-world" sense. I can totally see them doing it.So, he will come back and be talked about a lot I'm sure but I don't think I would have the stomach for it as a fantasy owner. I don't want to watch every play holding my breath wondering if he is going to get up and I don't want to see the kid scramble his brains.

Thanks for posting that. Until now I just assumed he must still be having issues. But if this is a case of following doctors advice and being super careful based on his history, then I can see why they'd still hold out some hope.

Yes this is good news to me. I've been hearing that he's symptom free for months now but assumed he must not be because he hasn't been cleared. If doctors just want him out a year though that explains it.

but why a year? All along all we've heard is that there is no timetable for concussion injuries.. sometimes it takes 1 month, sometimes 5... it's all about the baseline tests.. But, now all of a sudden there's this 1 year timetable delineation. I'd rather the Lions just say, he hasn't passed the baseline tests yet.
