Jahvid Best (1 Viewer)

I own BEST in 3 of my 6 leagues.

Starting him in 1 over Tolbert (easy decision with bye week issues).

Starting him over Sjax/Darby (was hoping for more clear info this am from Stl)

And I've flip flopped on the 3rd 50x (just ask Dodds as I play him in IOTA60 lol) but will roll dice with him in flex over TO/Nate Wash/Manningham (o.5 ppr RB / 1ppr WR).

Dodds has a strong lineup this week but I think I need the boom/bust potential of Best to get the win (hopefully boom).

I'm sure hindsight will show one of those 3 WR hit 15+ pts but it was hard to pick.

Gluck to all this week making the 'BEST' decision!

Best is now in a RBBC. Welcome to the new NFL.
based on one half of play while he's dealing with a painful injury. overreact much? I'm encouraged by how many opportunities he's getting, given toe.
Smith looks good.
How does Best look? Were the pregame reports accurate (no noticeable limp, etc)?
He has looked good on a couple of runs....other than that he seems to be having a hard time getting footing on his pass routes. He has slippled multiple times, and has fumbled. Been a tough day. Plus they are getting Smith in there quite a bit.

Yeah, this is tough. It seems likely that the Pack will get up big early and then Best will sit; the only question is what he can get done before then. I think I'm going to start Jonathan Stewart over him but don't feel good about it.
I wouldnt do that...
:blackdot: I hope he did.

Anyone see the game? Did Best look slowed by his toe, or did the pack D just shut him down?
I more or less said this in the game thread, but to me it looked like what you would expect with turf toe. He was effective on some plays, but didn't look as explosive...there was a swing pass in particular where I think a healthy Best jukes the defender in the open field for a much bigger gain. Here's hoping that he didn't aggravate the injury so he can get back to breaking some long ones.

:pickle: He averaged over 4 per carry and got 85 combined yards when he was clearly not 100% and in more of a time share than usual. If anything shut him down it was a ton of boneheaded penalties and mistakes by the Lions that limited his opportunity to do more.

Hill was the Lions’ most effective rusher with 53 yards. Kevin Smith made his season debut, but was relatively ineffective. Best couldn’t break any big plays. He fell twice trying to make a cut, but he insisted his turf toe issue wasn’t a factor in his performance.

I'm actually fairly optimistic for next week unless I hear he aggravated it or something. It will take him a while to get his cuts back to 100% but he did well with limited opportunity, the offense managed to move the ball, and if they can reduce penalties and get Best a few more carries (maybe up to 17-20 range) I think he'll be effective.

We all should have sold after week 2 but looking at who I would have tried to trade him for I doubt I would have done much better. I don't think I would have gotten MJD/Rice/Turner/Gore. Maybe Gore.

Wondering whether Hill's performance made them less itchy to get Stafford out there...

I was impressed with Best this week. Maybe from a FF perspective he didn't make his owners happy, but I've been pretty down on him, and am changing my mind - I think he's going to be a pretty good NFL RB.

I haven't watched them with a critical eye, but my impression is that Hill is not the reason they're losing. If I were the coaches (and I know you're all dying to hear my opinion), I'd be waiting for Stafford to be 100% before putting him back in the lineup.

grass. tough GB run D. "turf toe". and still 80+total yds...ya, I think he'll be alright as well.

GB had a pick 6, then the Lions had a fumble, putting the Pack in the redzone. Those were the difference IMO.

I haven't seen any new news on Best yet this week. Has anyone seen or heard anything on him? I'm curious to see if he practices fully or if they limit him because it's still healing. I like his match-up this week but I'd love to see that he's getting closer to 100% and not having setbacks after playing on it.

Im hoping they rest him all week again, then have him do a little work on friday.

I think we might all have to face the fact that this simply wasn't that bad of an injury. Practicing Wednesday is a sign that he is completely pain free.

Jahvid Best (toe) participated in Lions practice Wednesday.

Despite some chatter in Detroit that Best didn't appear to be 100 percent in Week 4, our game charters noticed no loss of speed in the close loss to Green Bay. Best is likely to flirt with 20 touches Sunday against St. Louis.

I'd actually feel better if he was resting that toe during the week.
Makes me think it was never that bad to begin with

 Just like injuries can be underestimated, they can definitely be over estimated in terms of how bad they are. I think a couple of good recent examples are Austin Collie's heel injury and Hakeem Nicks ankle injury.

So we're saying it's good and Best is better?

Is this cause for worry or cause for optimism regarding Best this season:

Tue, Oct 5

RB Kevin Smith is expected to get more work this week, as the Lions don't think RB Jahvid Best is ready to handle a high volume of carries. They want Smith to work in more, particularly in the first half, so Best is fresh for the finish.

As a Best owner, I actually think Kevin Smith helps his cause. I seriously doubt that Best can ever be a workhorse 25+ touch a game player.By working K. Smith in, it will help ease the load on Best. Just my 2 cents.

I still think Best is a 20-25 touch per game player... he's at his best on dumpoffs, wicked receiving RB....so ya, smith might get some work, but Best won;t get less than 20-25 a game on the normthat's TOUCHES, not rushes

I agree. Javid is by far the best RB on the team, but he was never meant to be a bell cow RB.

The Lions are probably playing from behind much of this season, so Best shouldn't lose many touches. He's the back the Lions want in when passing.

I'd rather have him play more late in games when the Lions are behind, Stafford/Hill are throwing check downs, and defenses have gotten a little tired.

Anyone know his status for this week or if he practiced on Friday and to what extent? i'm assuming he'll be reasonably good to go this week but wondered if anyone might have any solid info?

He was limited all week but he'll play.He is averaging 232 total yards and 3 tds a game on his home turf so I'd probably start him.

I really don't believe that ANY?ONE is meant to be a bell cow RB in the NFL. The game is just too violent. If any of you played high school ball, you'll remember that the day after Friday night's game, you could barely walk upright. Now this is with 180 lb 17-18 year olds, running 4.9 40 yard dashes. Compare that to the NFL where you have 6'5" 325 defensive linemen running 4.6 40yard dashes. The punishment these guys take is just too much. No RB can handle 30+ touches per game on a consistent basis, unless you're a freak of nature.

I am on the bubble having to start Best or Collie at my flex due to bye weeks and other injuries. Both are questionable, but current chatter is that Best is going and Collie is not. So I am rolling with Best this week.
