Jake Locker... (1 Viewer)

Shocking reaches in this draft. Then again, this talent pool is shallow.

I'd say it's about 95% that Locker will be a huge flop. Disastrous pick this high.

I'm warming up to the pick, but they should have traded down. Locker could very well be the right guy for the team. Gotta coach him up.

Locker was talked about as top pick in last years draft.

He had a had a bad supporting cast this year so it isn't shocking at all he went high

Obviously the Titans felt like they needed a tall, athletic quarterback with a rocket arm who uses his running ability to compensate for his low passer rating and poor decision making.

The great part is that Locker and Gabbert will be able to battle it out for years to come playing in the same division. The two players will be forever linked.

Titans have been all over Locker for months. Can't fault them for taking the guy they wanted. And it's not a reach when the Skins and Vikings would have taken him too.

I have no idea how he'll turn out. He's certainly not 95% failure like EBF says. But he's not a lock for success either. I like the physical tools and he has some great weapons and a good oline to work with. Titans need to get a free agent QB to take the reins this year, imo.

Not my favorite pick, but the organization has liked him for a long time so I am satisfied to see how things turn out.

From a QB perspective - I believe Locker, then Gabbert, whether they become viable QB's or not - found themselves in as good a situation as possible to succeed. Both QB's go to teams with above avg. run games. Both rookies have good leadership to sit behind (should each organization decide to handle them that way) & both young QB's have something in the cupboard to throw to. Would like to see both teams add veteran WR during FA if possible to help with the transition.

If these guys bust - it will be square on them, not the teams they went to. IMHO.

What Locker and Henry both have in common is that they're physical specimens who failed to dominate against amateur competition.

I don't mean to keep ripping Locker. I've got nothing against the guy. I just find it very, very unlikely that he'll pan out.

So much of QB play is mental and intangible. Guys like Rodgers and Luck came into the Pac-10 and dominated almost immediately. I've never seen evidence that Locker possesses the same kind of innate gifts. He's much more like a Boller/Palmer/Akili. A guy with compelling physical tools who was inconsistent at best. I see a Boller type of career for him in the NFL. Jake Plummer might be a best case scenario.

I don't remember if Boller/Akili had the same character Locker seems to. He appears to be a hard worker and will be a leader. Hopefully Loggains will help his accuracy - to a large degree, I'm blaming him if Locker fails.

Doesn't help Locker out that he can't hit the broad side of a barn with a pass 3/4 of the time. What was it, 3 or 4 games he completed less then 20% of his passes last year? I just don't see it, anytime there is any pressure whatsoever on him he completely folds.

It was zero. He completed exactly 20% once.

This hyperbole brought to you by... the letter W, the number 10, and the "I saw him play once" crowd. Why even bother with tripe like this?

I can't believe Gabbert hasn't been taken before Locker..:
After a day of thinking about this it still shocks me. They couldn't trade down? Reminds me of Jax pick last year. May be decent players eventually but taken too high.

I think it's safe to say that Tyson Alualu worked out better than half of the first-round players; he was named to a number of All-Rookie teams. Would it have been better for Jacksonville to take Brandon Graham, who went #13 and had 12 tackles in 2010? Or Derrick Morgan who went #16 and had 3? If you think a guy is good, and he won't be there in the next round, you have to take him. Same as in fantasy. "Trade down" is easy to say but not easy to do. Locker may or may not be good, but the fact that he was taken higher than the draftniks thought he would be doesn't matter one way or the other. He will be good or bad because of his skills and talents, not whether he was taken at #10 or #30.

A day after picking Washington quarterback Jake Locker in the first round, General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said he’s sure glad the Titans didn’t wait.

“I think Minnesota would have taken him at 12,’’ Reinfeldt said of the Vikings, who ended up taking Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder. “If he’s the guy you really want I think you just take him and go forward.”

But Reinfeldt made it clear on Friday night the Titans won’t rush Locker into action. He plans to pursue a veteran quarterback, either in free agency or by trade. Veteran Kerry Collins remains an option.

“We’d still like a guy that’s been a seasoned guy that could step in and play. I don’t think we want to put the pressure on Jake to have to do it. I think we want to be able to let him go at his own pace,’’ Reinfeldt said. “I think (Jake) is going to be able to go faster than people think he can, but I think we need to have a veteran that we can throw in for a bunch of the season and be comfortable with him for winning games.”

Reinfeldt said he envisions signing a veteran to two-year contract, but that player will have to be willing to accept moving over for the rookie if he’s on the fast track.
