Would you start Justin Fields or Russell Wilson this weekend vs the Jets?

  • Justin Fields

  • Russell Wilson

His biggest issue was he couldn’t stay on the field
this usually is what happens to the running QB. they start to get hurt. all those extra hits from 350 LB D linemen and 300 lb LB will take their toll. and the running QB will likely take 2x the number of hits that a regular QB takes.

That said, I really dont think much of fields and while Wilson Is the better QB, that likely lasts the season and not much further.
At this point I disagree that Russ is the better QB.

Maybe he’ll prove me wrong on Sunday.
we can agree to disagree. Fields couldnt get 160 yards passing in 4 of his 6 starts. thats not good on any level even if you are running the ball for 60-80 yards a game.

This is why I think they owe it to themselves to at least see what Russell Wilson can do.

sure you can argue wins and losses, but really the star of this show has been the Defense which has been quite outstanding this year. Any pro level QB who doesnt throw an INT likely could have won those games. but that doesnt make the performance good. I will give him credit for not screwing it up. because an extra INT likely changes those games, but it was not what I would call a good performance either.
Fields can’t catch his own passes. Not a ton of receiving talent on that team. That sword cuts both ways.

As I said in the Steelers thread. Neither Russell Wilson or Justin Fields is going to turn this offense into a passing phenom. The offensive line is too banged up, the wide receivers are poor and the team's identity and offensive coordinator is based on running the ball.

Stick with the running QB that has the ability to make something out of nothing when pass protection breaks down and who is a threat in short yardage situations and at the goal line.

Do you think either guy gives the Steelers a chance to win the Super Bowl?

If the answer is "neither guy does," then my next question is: Does it really matter who starts?

PIT's offense is 20th in PF and 26th in Yds. It's not like Fields was setting the world on fire.
Jets and Giants at home for the Steelers the next 2 weeks, those are pretty high chances of winning for the Steelers, seems like an awful time for a QB change right now
What would hurt with ridng out Fields at least the 1st Half of the jets game and bring Russ off the bench if needed. You still have the Giants game in your pocket and try it one more time
Then the Steelers have a Bye week and can have an extra week to prepare the locker room for the 2nd Half of the season
Fields could hang himself thru his own play these next couple weeks and take some of the heat off making the switch

I still think Tomlin will start Fields on Sunday vs the Jets

You didn't answer the question. If you don't think either guy is winning the Steelers a Super Bowl, then it doesn't really matter who starts.

Russell Wilson will never win another Superbowl. Justin Fields is definitely not winning a Superbowl with this offense.

So then it really doesn't matter who starts for PIT. At this point, the team seems like it’s constructed to simply keep the winning season record alive, not win a Super Bowl.
sure it matters. The idea is to win the division and then see what happens in the playoffs.

It’s important to win this home conference game against the Jets. My opinion is Fields gives them the best chance tondo that considering the status of the offensive line.

Yeah, like I said above, PIT is a team constructed to keep Tomlin's win streak alive, not win a Super Bowl. It's quite obvious since we're splitting hairs about which QB won't be the worst option to not win a Super Bowl.
I disagree. I think you start the QB that gives you the best chance to win and then see how things play out through the course of the season. We are only 6 games in right now and a lot can happen between now and the Super Bowl. It’s too early to say “it doesn’t matter”.

I don’t know what your point is. Are you suggesting they should not play the best available option on the team? Should every team that doesn’t have a Super Bowl caliber team on paper in week 7 just give up?

And neither was Rex Grossman or Jeff Hostetler or I can name a few more...we hear you but some of us think the Steelers might be good enough with even decent QB play for a deep run
Using your barometer 20+ teams right now should just TANK!
We can't have that in the NFL, just ask Stephen Ross who was sentenced to 8 weeks of no NFL access as an owner

Playing Wilson isn't tanking.

OP question?
A: Neither, as I was fortunate enough to avoid the Steelers 2024 QB situation on draft night.
Hypothetically?
A: Neither. If I owned either or both, I'd be looking for another option this week. Thank you coach Tomlin for giving me that kick in the *** that I needed this week after I procrastinated the previous few weeks.
Would you start the Jets DT or the Steelers DT?
A: Yes. I'm starting PIT over MIN this week at TD. If I had both NYJ & PIT? I would prolly use the League Dominator defensive rankings to guide my decision for the week.

I have the Steelers

My opponent has the Jets

O/U of 38.5 is the 2nd lowest of the week

The lowest was last night’s snoozer

Agree with thought process to avoid the Vikings this week as the Goffense is on a heater

What does this say about Mike Tomlin?
Is Russ the bonafide No 1 QB for the rest of the season?
Will Tomlin commit thru the media to Russ when he is questioned or will he say something like "We're taking it week by week"
Another very winnable game vs the Giants next week at home before their bye week
A 6-2 Steelers team entering the 2nd Half of the season with even decent QB play is a team that will roll into the Playoffs even as a Wildcard and could be dangerous 1st round

What does this say about Mike Tomlin?
That he's smarter than people on a fantasy message board and the talking heads on ESPN?
Is Russ the bonafide No 1 QB for the rest of the season?
Most likely

No reason to commit to anything, at least for now.

No reason to commit, you're right. Just keep squeezing the best out of both of them
I hope Tomlin makes Fields understand it's not over and they likely are going to need him at some point again during the season.
I know Russ traditionally has been durable but you want Fields to also feel like he could enter the game at any moment
Tomlin has done a terrific job so far of stacking wins and getting his team rolling this season
I could see a scenario where neither one of them is here next season

What is Russ' actual value now as a starting QB? He can't be a $50M guy any more, I would think they could get him pretty cheap vs what the going rates are
They are paying Fields Year 4 rookie money? Can't be more than $5M if that and I thought Russ was even less than that where Denver picked up most of his money

Russell looked about what I expected in the first half but better than I expected in the second half. Did not look as good as the stat lines indicate, but there is hope he gets better.

They're paying Russ like $2mn this year, Denver is paying the other $38mn or whatever it is, his value is hard to determine right now but there's no point in trying, they'll know towards the end of the season and they can figure it out then.

I’ve heard this crazy talk from local Pittsburgh talk radio, that Wilson should replace Fields. Guys’ 4-2 with one of those losses pinned on the defense sleepwalking early against Indy. The downside is real. If Wilson goes 0-2, for instance, there’s no guarantee Fields finds his mojo again. You don’t mess with success. Voted Fields, obviously.
I was wrong.
