Clearly in a redraft he is a wasted roster spot - but what about in a Dynasty format? Is anyone still hanging onto him? I have not watched too much Raiders football this year (blissfully), but when I have seen him play it has been just awful. Right now he is just burning up a spot on my roster, and I am ready to cut bait.

Is there anyone out there still holding out hope?

I guess my first question is what do you gain by cutting him? Is there someone else out there you just have this special hankering for?

Honestly, it seems that he is just lost out there, but I still think the light could turn on for him. You have to factor in the mess that is the Oakland Raiders and the fact that he really wasn't a very polished QB coming out of LSU.

yea I have been thinking about cutting him all year and I haven't, I know I could draft him again in the 4th or later anyways. probably getting the axe in the next couple weeks if I see anything else with more promise.

Good question. I didnt want to turn this into an assistant coach thread, but someone on par with Tatum Bell or Jordy Nelson would be the alternative to Russell on my roster. Both woudl be reserves and nothing special - but I really dont see anything special in Russell either. He looks just putrid out there, and we are now late in season 2. Not to mention the abyss that is Oakland in which he is stuck for a long time.

its tough, I would like to give him one more year or at least maybe 4-6 games next year to see what he does, but then I keep thinking about who he plays for and how he has looked and it makes me what to bail. I know I cant get anything for him right now...

I tried to trade him for the Dolphins Defense to a team that is completely out of it (and not a Fins fan), and was turned down. They preferred my 4th round pick next year in a rookie draft to Russell.

Depends on league size / roster size, but I'd say in a 12 teamer w/ 25 man rosters he's certainly rosterable.

I'll have to make the choice between keeping Russell, or a guy like Ginn or Mewelde Moore. I would like to be able to hold Russell 1 more year but my league is shallow (roster 18, start 9, keep 13).

Guy is terrible and a bust... already cut him. The chances of the Oakland Raiders turning things around anytime soon are slim to none. I'm not even sure players that have any kind of respect for themselves as players would sign there. They need to stock pile draft picks in order to turn this team around and any Raiders having fantasy/real life relevance in the NFL won't be until about 2-3 seasons from now.

I feel that a player like Russell, who has startable NFL talent should always get a longer leash on your bench. Why cut him for someone that is a retread or on the down side of his career? Obviously, roster limits and such play a part, but we get so caught up in the latest batch of rookies that when they don't immediately perform, we assume they suck and drop them for nothing. Just a quick glance at these boards the last couple of days and you can find Mendenhall and McFadden threads about trading them away or going in a different direction. These are fantasy dynasty draft first round picks and I can almost guarantee you that you will be able to trade for them around April for much less than their current owner did.

Russell has the physical tools to be a good player. He was unpolished coming out of college and has had nothing but uncertainty and chaos around him since he got into the league. IMO, he is a buy low candidate at this point. And to those that say it will take 2-3 years before there is any fantasy relevance in Oakland, isn't that what they were saying about ATL this year? There is always value to be found, you just have to know where to look for it.

Unless you've got insanely large benches or in a 2 QB league, would cut w/o hesitation. Not only does he appear overwhelmed still, but when/where are the WR weapons long term?? I don't see enough upside with his situation or what I've seen out of him thus far to wait 2-3 years.

Depends on the size of the roster, but in Zealots I have him on one team and he is saddled up with Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson and Joe Flacco...

He'll likely have Crabtree next year... :goodposting:

The kid is young and last year was not really a full rookie season. The Raiders will have a high pick in the first round and will look for either WR or OL help. The running game is set and will be able to help any QB. The D is pretty good and could get scary good with a solid young DT to throw in there.

Now, I am a Raider fan so there has to be a little salt thrown into my eternal hope but I have also watched a couple of games this season and what I see is all the physical tools (cannon arm, mobility, etc) and I have not seen overly bad decision making either. I think when he gets some WR targets that can get some seperation and offer him someone to throw to and gets better line play he can be a very good QB in this league.
