Yeah, the same people that put Hertz right out of business after OJ happened.

Not entirely analogous. O.J. was in movies, had been a star RB, was doing NFL sideline stuff, etc., he was known for more than just being a Hertz spokesman. Jared was known for only one thing before this, which was his association with Subway. Not saying Subway goes out of business, but I think it has at least a short term impact on sales - we will see.

Subway had nothing to do with this. Unless someone shows evidence that the company knew and/or tried to cover it up- why? Now, I don't frequent Subway often because their sandwhiches aren't all that good plus the nearest one is owned by really rude people and the two times I went in were both very bad customer service experiences.... but if I did go to Subway a lot, I would not change my behavior because this twisted SOB did things that Subway otherwise had nothing to do with.

Plus, the vast majority of Subways are franchise owned. Why hurt small business owners simply because the company they bought a franchise with had a business relationship with some twisted SOB?

I do question Subway for ever investing in such a ####ty spokesperson.

The complaint says in text messages with one of the 14 minor victims, Fogle said he would accept a 16-year-old girl while stating that "the younger the girl, the better."

The complaint says he asked some of the victims to send him pictures of themselves.

The complaint says the child porn authorities found photos and videos of boys and girls. It's unclear the gender of those with whom he had sex.

Part of the case involves images Fogle received from Russell Taylor, the head of Fogle's foundation. According to the complaint, Taylor sent Fogle photos and videos from hidden cameras in Taylor's house, featuring children as young as approximately 6.

Under the plea deal, Fogle agreed to serve at least 5 years in prison and must pay restitution of $1.4 million -- $100,000 per victim. And he must register as a sex offender.

Part of Fogle's punishment ... he can't possess obscene materials, he must participate in a sexual disorders program, can't have unsupervised meetings with minors, and his computers will be subject to random checks.

Fogle turned himself into the FBI today and he's currently being processed.

Reading the Criminal Information, I can agree with a lot of what Henry has said about why a deal would be offered. There are multiple allegations in the Information. Some are proffered with more detail than others. The strength of some of the allegations depend on whether the source of the detail is forensic or the word of his ####bag business associate and/or a teenage prostitute. It seems clear that they can prove that he received child porn, some of it featuring very young victims. It seems clear that they can prove that he traveled to New York and had sex with a 17 year old prostitute. But a lot of the most damning allegations may come from witnesses who would be heavily attacked on the stand. The Information itself is silent as to whether they have the texts asking for younger prostitutes or whether they just have the prostitute's testimony about the texts.

So you can see why both sides might want to plead this out. There's no good result for Jared, but there are some results where the most egregious allegations are unproven.

You gotta remember, things were rather different back then. He started working for Subway in 1999 (first tv commercial aired on Jan 1, 2000) The internet was nothing like it is now. Tabloid media was still relegated to the checkout line at grocery stores. Even if they did know about his pron rental business, at the time, he was just a guy in before and after photos for the company. And slowly they kept using him, and even after the internet and online tabloids started to come about, no one came forth to say "OMG I used to rent porn from him in college!" And even if they did, most people wouldn't care because that was several years ago.

Nowadays, when companies hire people to be their spokesman, they are doing extensive background checks to make sure there isn't anything that could hurt them. Of course, that doesn't help with what the person could do in the future.

Do we want to police it? I mean obviously these people are sick, and it seems just as obvious that there will always be a certain percentage of the population that will want to do this. And no amount of prison time or public shame is enough of a deterrent, because they can't help themselves. It also depends on the state. I'm assuming this wasn't NY as NY's age of consent is (or at least was) 17. I think he must have gone down to 16 if it was NY and/or he did it in other states.

Again, I do not condone wife beating, but beating up an adult who has the capability to get far away if they want to is different than looking at child porn. Little kids do not have the mental capabilities to defend themselves against this kind of crap. In many cases, they are being abused by their own parents or relatives, so they are trapped.
