Jarrett Boykin (1 Viewer)

My take is that...

a. Jones needs to prove he's healthy enough for a full load of snaps,

b. when this happens, Boykin will see the field less (but by how much if they employ 3 WR sets mostly?), and

c. despite seeing the field less, he'll be matched against worse corners (maybe?).

I would think more week-to-week volatility, but still some decent to big games from Boykin, depending on matchups (i.e. quality of CB 1-2-3 on opposing squads).

Beyond that line of reasoning, there's still an outside chance for Boykin to develop into a better WR than Jones. Far fetched, I know, but who was James Jones before he played with Aaron Rodgers? Jones has more speed, but Boykin has better hands? I've seen enough of the kid to give me hope. Jones has always been a deep threat anyway, whereas Boykin looks more of the possession mold, given his hands, size and (lack of) straightline speed.

whats the word on James Jones? with the Monday Night Game it might be hard to know if you should play Boykins or not
As long as Cobb is out I don't see what's the James Jones presence has to do with Boykin (without the S)
Boykin is currently filling the James Jones role. When he returns, Boykin will either have to move to the slot (where he has never played) or he will have a diminished role.
Jordy Nelson may play a lot in the slot going forward

I think people are overrating Jones, based mainly on his 14 TDs last year. He's generally not been a target monster, but more of a big play, high risk/high reward guy. Maybe he becomes a bigger target guy with Cobb and Finley out, but there seems room for Boykin to produce.

Sooooo...

We're not talking WR1 anymore? That was fast.

Myles White was on the field for 76% of the snaps last week, so I wouldn't be concerned about Boykin's production even if Jones plays this weekend.

Two from Boykin and two from Lacy would be awesome.

Two long TD passes from Lacy to Boykin, or from Boykin to Lacy, or one of each, whatever I'm not picky, would be awesome too.

If the Bears DC has half a brain, he'll put Tillman on Jordy to lock him down (look at C. Johnson's career numbers vs. the Bears when Peanut is healthy) - presuming Tillman's knee is healthy enough for him to handle the assignment. That should give Boykin some decent looks in the passing game, as the rest of the Bears secondary is fairly meh. Tim Jennings is undersized (which plays nicely into the fact that Boykin is a big WR) - and the Chicago safeties are simply terrible.

All of that said, if the Bears OC has half a brain, they will pound the ball, try to control the clock and limit how often Rodgers is on the field.

I know that it's not what a lot of Boykin owners wants, but since I already have my matchup won, I'd selfishly like to see James Jones play tonight. I think that one game of seeing the entire group together will give us some clarity into what we can expect going forward. Right now, it's a complete crap shoot.

Better try to get outside...cause pounding up the middle with the way Raji, Daniels, Jolly and all are playing might not be the best Idea. Id seriously try to attack the LBs as that is where GB is hurting most on D.

Use the TE in the middle of the field (because GB still can't defend a TE in the middle very well).

Any chance of 2 tds tonight?
i'd say it's possible but not likely.
Not possible! ARod loves Jordy too much to share throwing the ball in the redzone to anyone else. I would double Jordy and make Rodgers throw elsewhere.
Id do that too...but it has little to do with Rodgers loving Nelson too much to share in the redzone.

Has more to do with Boykin and White not getting open as well (as seen last week).

From what I saw Nelson wasn't that open either. Rodgers just fired the ball right by the D before they could do anything about it.

Well yes...obviously he would have a bit more comfort level with Nelson making that catch.

it was more about one of the drives last week where they ended up with a FG.

Wallace doesn't even look his way. Brutal. Guess it's to be expected. It's natural for a guy who got no practice reps to lock onto the #1 receiver.

I needed 10 points BETWEEN Rodgers and Boykin to win. Beat that!

:ptts:

This really shriveled my nut sack.

Like many in here, on some teams that require 3 wides, I was somewhat proud of a cobbled together choir of Blackmon, Allen, and Boykin. Yes, I'd like to have had Cobb, Julio, and Bowe back in up in thar. For obvious reasons, the latter isn't feasible.

EFFF can't take another hit on some of these teams. Please come back healthy.

For the love of the baby dwarven hairy jesus, come back.

Man, I can't buy a WR in one of my 3 leagues. I start the season thinking a few weeks and I am set with Julio, Demaryius, Blackmon and Harvin (flex for late season run) and not once was I be able to play even 3 of them. Now, losing Boykin hurts even more. Man, it sucks feeling like you are stocked at a position only to have to roll out Boykin, Douglas, Nate Washington and Fleener in week 9 and knowing that 2 of those 4 are most likely being dropped for WW fodder in week 10.

Most teams don't have 3 playable receivers and if Rodgers is out for anytime the PAckers of course will run more making their 3rd receiver unstartable. Boykin played a lot tonight though and it looks like they plan on using Nelson in the slot so if Rodgers does came back I think he still does have some value.

What's the thinking here now? Is Boykin a HOLD for the FF playoffs or is it time to drop him to the WW, knowing that his value is likely to be low for the next 3-4 weeks? By the time Rodgers returns, Randall Cobb will likely return also, won't he?

Cobb can't return until week 15, and there's nothing saying they'll definitely put him right back in. They may well save him for the playoffs/future. But with Jones back, Rodgers out, I don't like his upside at this point.

I'm looking for better options.

Well now that tolzien is in there. Should we re-think the Jarret Boykin position?

Werent Tolz & Boykin on the practice squad together?

Seems like they had a chemistry vs the Eagles.

Not that you can count on Tolz to be even a decent option.

thoughts?

I'm more excited about Boykin in Dynasty these days. He produced with a no-name QB. Something I was worried about after the Bears game. The GB system is very WR friendly and I think James Jones will be gone after the year.

I think he will be solid in redraft for the rest of the year. He is still the #2/3 option, and Jordy is going to get every double team. You could do a lot worse at WR3/Flex down the stretch.

There might be something there but it's difficult to trust consistent production from this duo.

And beyond the statistics, he looked consistently excellent yesterday.

I'm sorry I dropped him...
Me too. He might have helped me win, if I kept him and started him. Not sure, but with this season, not caring at all anymore.
lets not get ahead of ourselves here.

No one started him this week with Seneca Wallace as the starter.

it was obvious from the game that him and Tolzien have a connection, plus Im sure the Eagles were rolling coverage to Jordy.

Borderline play even going forward Im thinkg, what will McCarthy do? Will he ride Tolz out? If Seneca is healthy does he play?

Man, I'm really regretting dropping this guy (I picked up Colston in his place, so it wasn't a complete misfire at least). With Wallace at QB, I believe that it was a sound decision to let him go. Tolzien on the other hand, loves him.

I'm going to try to grab him off the wire, but I think it's unlikely I'll be able to acquire him.
