SEA trying to move TJ Houshmandzadeh, but unlikely anyone takes him on. WR due to make $7M-plus guaranteed in '10. He's available, though
link(response to question of whether WAS would be interested)

trust me, if someone wants to take on the contract it won't take a ton to pry him away I don't think anyone will this late
Housh is doing the slow swirl down the drain

Phil thinks most people realized Seattle made a mistake when they signed him.
It was throwing money to try and fix a problem.Schneider and PC seemed to be taking the rebuilding strategy and are ok with the Seahawks getting worse before they get better. Housh is certainly better than Tate, Butler & BMW at this time but Housh is certainly not in the long-term plans. With that being said, I don't think Housh will be cut. No point cutting him unless he is actually a locker room cancer and being a distraction.

Wasn't Barnwell (or someone else?) tweeting the other day about local speculation that Housh might get cut too? If trying to trade him, sounding like a real possibility if no one wants his contract.

That's the question. Is he becoming a distraction? While Ocho Cinco has a reputation of being one of the biggest divas in the league, reportedly Housh is WAY worse. At least that was the word when he was at Cincy.

If Housh's '10 money is guaranteed, chances of him getting cut are slim. If a significant % of his '10 deal isn't guaranteed, chances of a him getting iced are greater and thus the fortunes of BMW, Tate, and others rise.

Anyone have his contract specs?

Butler seemed to be getting some nice pre-season buzz last year, but I hadn't heard much this year :hey:

The Vikings lost out in their pursuit of free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh in March 2009 when the veteran wide receiver decided to sign a five-year, $40 million deal with Seattle that included $15 million in guarantees.

Now it appears the Vikings could have another shot at Houshmandzadeh -- if they are interested. The Seahawks are actively shopping Houshmandzadeh, according to NFL sources. The story was first reported this afternoon by Jason LaConfora of the NFL Network.

Seattle is believed to be trying to unload Houshmandzadeh because it would like an opportunity to clear salary space to potentially add disgruntled San Diego wide receiver Vincent Jackson in a trade. Houshmandzadeh is due to make $7 million plus guaranteed this coming season.

The 32-year-old Houshmandzadeh is coming off a season in Seattle in which he caught 79 passes for 911 yards and only three touchdowns in 16 games. That reception total was his lowest since he caught 78 passes with the Bengals in 2005 in 14 games.

Houshmandzadeh made it clear when he did not come to Minnesota that part of the reason had to do with the quarterback situation. Houshmandzadeh also said the presence of Matt Hasselbeck in Seattle played a big part in his decision.

But that was before Houshmandzadeh went through a 5-11 season in 2009 and head coach Jim Mora Jr., was fired and replaced by Pete Carroll. It was also before the Vikings convinced Brett Favre to spent two seasons with them.

Favre's presence means it's likely Houshmandzadeh would have no problem being traded to Minnesota. The loss of Sidney Rice (hip) for a good portion of the season and the uncertainty surrounding Percy Harvin and his migraine issues might make Houshmandzadeh an attractive option.

The real question when it comes to Houshmandzadeh and the Vikings is finances. As I wrote about Jackson earlier today, you have to wonder how much more spending the Vikings ownership group will approve after committing a potential $20 million on Favre for 2010.

The flip side is if the Vikings feel Houshmandzadeh could be a key piece to their success in what Favre has said will be his final season (I know, I know) the franchise might be willing to make that investment.

He really has been a distraction so far. Pouting on the sidelines, fits during practice, sulking back to the huddle if the ball isn't thrown his way. There was an article just a few weeks ago, saying that Housh made a promise to himself to be more "vocal" this year, which isn't a good thing.

Butler has actually done really well this offseason/training camp/preseason. Carrol actually singled him out as the most improved player on the team, period. On top of making some nice grabs in the preseason games, he is routinely come up with impressive catches in practice as well. He doesn't necessarily fit PC's mold at WR, but he has looked good so far. At this point though, you really have no idea who is going to be on the team from day to day.

Vikings should throw the Seachickens a french fry for Housh. They can afford to pay him and this would help both teams if the Chickens can land VJax as a result.

Houshmandzadeh is on the block

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 2, 2010 5:28 PM ET

If trying to trade Michael Clayton was Mission Impossible, consider a possible trade of T.J. Houshmandzadeh its bloated sequel.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that Seattle is trying to move Houshmandzadeh. He also points out that a trade is very unlikely because of Housh's contract, which contains $7 million guaranteed this season.

Yes, the Vikings were interested in Houshmandzadeh a year ago. But they drafted Percy Harvin to play the slot and recent acquisition Greg Camarillo is a similar-style player to Housh at a fraction of the price and drama. (Some would argue Camarillo's skill-level is similar now too.)

We highly doubt the Seahawks could find any takers for Houshmandzadeh. The question, then: Could the Seahawks simply eat his salary?

The Seahawks seem oddly determined to keep Deion Branch, but he and Housh are only taking snaps away from young talents Golden Tate, Deon Butler, and Mike Williams.

We asked whether Housh could be cut on Twitter a few weeks back and ESPN's Mike Sando thought there was at least a chance.

That chance, which seemed rather small, appears to be growing.

UPDATE: Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune writes it's believed the Seahawks want to clear salary space to go after Vincent Jackson. Good luck.

no different than 99% of the time when a guy who is lucky to be a #2 WR in a good situation gets paid to be a #1.

So you're telling me Deion Branch may be Seattle's #1 receiver??
Could be Carlson when all is said and done.
Nope, Carlson will most likely stay back and block more again this season since the tackles are either inexperienced (Wrotto and Okung), coming back from injury (Okung), or just not very good (Locklear). Carlson had a very good year the last year that big Walter Jones was healthy. Last year they had huge issues at the tackles position and Carlson disappers. It's not a coincidence.

Pete Carroll has shown no loyalty and is letting the best players win the job. The WR spots in SEA are very much still wide open right now. It should go without saying for most teams, but is not always the case, that those who end up performing the best will be the one playing the most in Seattle this year.

It isn't gonna keep them from being a really bad football team this year. NFC West = hands down worst division in the NFL.

It may be down the drain but I think I'd rather take Hush on Minny than Housh on Seattle.

bump up BMW?
maybe you take him in the 13th-15th instead of 16th-18th now. always been a nice late round flier.
Come on Sig...that guy is a warm body. What has he ever done?

He will be nothing this year....again.
Have you seen him in the preseason? He looks like USC BMWDanny O'Neil from the Seattle Times, one of my most trusted Seahawks sources, said way back in July that BMW would catch 40-50 balls this year if he carried over spring performance to summer. He has.

This would be the year to cut a guy with a big contract. You eat the money but no cap hit. Antonio Bryant anyone?
