Javon Walker may lose starting job (1 Viewer)

As a Raider fan I am not even bothered by the money to be honest. I only worry about the product the team puts on the field. It's up to the business side of the team to make sure they can afford the move. The worst part for me in this is that his signing meant that the Raiders didn't go after any other WRs (other then Carter - thankfully). Had they not signed Walker there still would have been a need to bring in somebody else.
:P I agree, as a life long Raider fan I just want to see us be competitive again, we have the defense (If our run D can play decent) but from the start I hated the Walker signing.

It is just a ploy to motivate Javon (Tatum) Walker. Not much to see here, but I do think Curry is the value pick on the team.

With that said, I just pulled Walker in the 12th round. Works for me.

I really think that this was just a ploy to motivate Walker. Kiffin may have been calling him out in TC and he wasn't responding. But when he calls him out in the media he may have decided to kick it up a notch and actually try to earn that K he signed...
:lmao:

It doesn't matter who's the Raiders #1 WR Walker, Curry, Carter... the team is going to be a running team.

If I were the head coach I would rather rest my hopes on Justin Fargas, Darren McFadden, and Micheal Bush over Javon Walker, Ronald Curry, and Drew Carter.

I am a Raider fan and I am cutting all ties to the WRs as none of them have stood out in training camp.

Expect the Raiders game plan to be run Fargas, Run McFadden, Run Bush, screen pass McFadden, short pass to TE Zach Miller.

As a Raider fan stay far, far away from the WRs. There's no upside this year with Russell in his 1st full year, a poor pass blocking line, and a strong running game and defense to lean on.

100% agree here, especially with inexperienced Russell. I can see the short dump off passes being the majority and of course the occasional throw downfield ...

I dislike this guy as much as anyone. That said, I think we can assume he retains his starting job, since Carter is now out for the year with an injury. He caught 4 for 60 yesterday. The Raiders should be playing from behind quite a bit and Russell will be throwing the ball a fair bit even though they like to run. I don't think he has much value, but if he can stay on the field what should expectations be? In deep leagues as maybe a WR #5 he could provide some bye/injury relief. Thoughts?

:goodposting: He was told he needed to perform and, to some extent, he delivered. If you're counting on Walker on a weekly basis you need to be in straight-jacket, but its obvious that he has some value. Those that suggested otherwise should now be silenced.I have him as WR4 in a 16 team league but have the upside of Derek Hagan at WR5

Kiffin singled out Walker as a player who needed to perform well Saturday on the heels of back-to-back games without a reception.

Walker wasted little time. He snared a 14-yard reception for a first down on the game's third play and added a 13-yard catch later in the quarter, as well as a 27-yard reception in the second quarter.

"It was good to see him with the ball in his hands," Kiffin said. "He looked more confident as the game went on."

Can we please recall that this guy was going SECOND ROUND last year on talent. It's his head. If Kifkin can push the right buttons, which he seems to be doing, I think this could the steal of the draft and he could return to WR1/2 numbers. I mean J Russel is raw, but he has a cannon. It's not lie he's getting the ball from Line-hurt or The Mighty Quinn.

Hoping and praying Walker has a few nice games to start the season, so I can unload him (in a dynasty league) for decent value. The knee problems are bad enough, but when you add in the mental / motivational *issues* - it's only a matter of time till this gets ugly again.

Not sure if Russell can make that happen - that passing game is fugly in OAK.

I mean they will be losing a lot of games. Someones gotta get those throws. Javon seems like a guy who will work in garbage time, cuz he's more about stats than team in nature anyway. Just a hunch.

They've been losing a lot of games for a long time now, and it hasn't done much for their fantasy stats. The best Raider WR last year was Porter with 705/6, and in 2006 it was Curry with 727/1. Picking Walker in 2008 in a redraft is based on nothing more than his reputation from 2004.

In that game against the Titans, I saw him make some jumps at (admittedly not great) throws that made him look horrible... like, he wasn't even in football shape or has simply lost that much of his ability. With the money the Raiders have paid Walker of course he'll be a starter, but I wouldn't take him higher than a second bench WR. He has the injuries AND the basketcase factor. Not attractive.

Yeah but you are discountng J Russel and growth there imo.

oh I took a flyer on him in the 11-12th round as WR5. But i think his upside could even reach WR 1 and that can't really be said of many guys drafted at that position without really stretching the odds.

If Russell turns out to be a better QB than Daunte Culpepper (for example), and if Walker actually plays like and is treated like the #1 WR on the team (unlikely given his behavior so far), you're right, he could do better than that. But it's hard to imagine that there aren't better options available, even on the Raiders.

I agree, but also took Curry a few rds later. With Carter out now, I like my odds. Even though I agree they are long, but that's why you can get him as a WR5
