Jay Cutler: is he legit? (1 Viewer)

I just dropped him to pick up Jake Locker. I'm done with this clown lol. He's been in the league a while now so no more excuses, he is who he is. I'm sure he'll have a few big games this season but he's just so inconsistent. I'd rather take a chance on Locker since CJ2YPC isn't doing anything, all their scores will probably come through the air or the legs of Jake Locker...and they'll be down a lot.

Cutting Cutler felt sooo good lol.

I'm unlucky enough to have him and Vick in a start 2 QB league. I'd love to be able to trade both their sorry asses but I can't. I've been looking through the waiver to see if anyone AT ALL is available but there is none. So I'm screwed and have too hold on to these guys. But trust me, if I could drop then and get anything at all starter worthy, I would!

Pretty hard to overcome adversity when you don't have an offense or an offensive line to support you. He has the talent, this is the first year the organization has done anything to supplement the offense and it came just in time for Forte and Bush to get injured making there offense completely one dimensional again.

His numbers will continue to suffer, but very little of it can be helped by Jay himself.

He's done more outside of the nfl than most players in the nfl. All the character issues are complete bull, hes a stand up guy - I wouldnt blame him at all if he sat himself after that #### two weeks ago, getting penetration with only 4 guys on the bears oline literally every play is inexcusable. Dude takes sack after sack, takes the franchise to the playoffs and still gets nothing but grief.

I disagree. Some of it does fall on Cutler. No one makes perfect decisions every time, but he isn't Brees, old Manning, or Brady. I don't think he's the student of the game the others are. His arm is 2nd to none in the NFL, no doubt about that. I think his issue is his ego. Maybe his discipline.

I was actually excited to draft Cutler behind Vick and thought he was in for a big year with Marshall in town.

After the GB game I realized why I never really liked him as a player. He has great arm talent but seems to lack so many other qualities and intangibles of an elite QB.

The breakdown above is excellent and shows Cutler's lack of footwork, lazy technique, and poor decision making. His arm will keep him as a starting QB in the league but I see a lot of Jeff George in this guy. I don't think he'll ever realize the potential that his arm provides him.

While I basically agree with everything you say - and would add, that, sadly he is easily the best QB the Bears have had in my lifetime (let's just say I'm north of 40) - the fact is, Cutler still has flaws in his game that he needs to fix. His footwork gets lazy and he locks on to receivers. There are definately times whne it looks as though he has already decided who he is going to throw to before the ball is even snapped. Now, to be fair, some of that may be due to the (very accurate) assumption on his part that he is not going to have time to go through his reads - but he has to. He has to trust his o-line so that on the occasions when they do their jobs correctly he can hit the right receiver.

I agree completely.
