Jeopardy Baby, Ooooh-ooh-oooooh (1 Viewer)

Roger Mudd was a newscaster with CBS and NBC back in the day.

Occasionally, at the end of his newscasts, he'd bring up (on a notable historical anniversary) his distant relative Samuel Mudd as someone who was unfairly convicted

I haven't watched in a while...are these players just not too good? Seemed like a ton of easy triple stumpers tonight (Stone Temple Pilots, absolutism, Dukakis/MA, etc.). I'm not great at this, so their missing a lot I would get is unusual.

Two of them were good. Sometimes, it's just a matter of what categories are up. And sometimes, we are just on our game.

Those three were bad but I wouldn’t say that crew was discernibly worse than usual.

Now last week’s episode of Lingo was a disaster. Three of the four teams were terrible at the game and it was not entertaining at all.

I felt a little bad for the middle guy who was amazingly good at tough Anagrams. He got greedy on the DD and missed it, though he got the other 4 correct.
It cost him the win.

He wasn't greedy imo. Smart bet.

Sadly missed it

The other challenger had the same situation and outcome.

So for the fourth straight day the 8 time champ didn't find even one daily double. That's 12 chances to boost his score that he couldn't get to. Makes his run even more impressive imo. 🎱
You need to take advantage of the opportunities you have, which he has, and sometimes you need luck, which he’s also had, because on a few occasions he might have lost if not for errors by his opponents.

Yesterday he benefited from having an opponent who might as well not have even been there. The guy in the middle rarely ever rang in and was often wrong when he did.

This week’s episode of Lingo is even worse.

He should have lost on Thursday, but 2nd place bet like a complete fool.
Getting the Final incorrect finally caught up with him tonight.
I noticed that the lady who won made a better wager than most.

Tonight's winner bet really dumbly on the daily double (the last clue in double jeopardy).

Then bet well in the Final
Made up for her mistake, basically.

To be fair, DD wagering is an on-the-spot decision, whereas contestants have 15 minutes to decide their FJ wager.
Yes, there's definitely a time crunch for the DD's. But still, it was a really bad DD wager because she was in such a great spot - she had a big enough lead that there was no downside to missing the question as long as she didn't bet crazy. It was basically a free roll the lock the game up, and it's not like the math had to be super accurate. She could have just, e.g., aimed for $25K knowing that was more than double second and a lost wager wouldn't drop her out of the lead. Fortunately for her it didn't matter because she knew the FJ answer.

Good game today, though. It's always nice when you have three strong contestants, although it's hard not to feel bad for the losers in those situations.

Also, didn’t she say Gregor instead of McGregor? I watched it twice and thought she misspoke, but the judges let it go

Yeah - She seemed to realize her mistake as soon as they updated the scores after the DD. Could see on her face, and thought I heard an audible “ugh.”

The worst part was the category (HANS, SOLO) was basically “Know Your Hans.”
  • Christian Anderson ($400 answer)
  • Zimmer ($1200)
  • Gruber (I’m out of Hans already)

Huge DD wagering mistake tonight. So surprised when I heard her wager. A brain fart with no time for a recovery.

Seemed like Ken wanted to talk her out of it
Wouldn't be surprised.
I think the hosts don't like to see contestants make preventable catastrophic mistakes like that.
I wouldn't have noticed in this case as I was too busy yelling at the TV.

Man, I watched the 3/22 episode tonight. Definitely one of the more shocking wagers I've ever seen. She brought it upon herself, but still that's a rough way to lose.

On the 3/23 episode, how in the world is a clue where they give you a map including the outline of a fairly distinctive US state in the $2000 slot? That was bizarre.

The Jeopardy Fan:

Lisa Sriken—whose mannerisms during yesterday’s game proved to be very popular with fans—is your defending champion. Today, she faces off against Utah’s Jordan Davis and Maryland’s Iris Masucci.
