Jeopardy Baby, Ooooh-ooh-oooooh (2 Viewers)

And Adriana finally loses, to the first Survivor contestant to be on Jeopardy*.

For this game she faced two good opponents, one of whom was just as fast on the buzzer as her. So not finding either DD in DJ really hurt her, when usually it hasn't mattered.

Adriana is one of the few post-Holzhauer champs to play the "traditional" way -- go top-down in the categories, not hunt for DDs constantly, and rely on their vast knowledge. That can work against average or worse players, but it probably won't fly in the TOC, she'll likely need to change things up there.

This game also was more proof that aggressive DD wagering is the way to go. Adriana usually bid cautiously, and against lesser opponents it usually didn't matter. Tekra did the same and it cost her the win (she was the only one to get FJ right and would have been able to catch Drew if she'd gone all-in on her DD). Drew bet big on his DD and it won him the game.

* - Drew's first confessional on his Survivor season was "I am objectively the smartest person here." He may not have been wrong.
Ugh, Tekla’s DD wager was terrible. With so few clues left, trailing by a lot, why would you wager to leave yourself a couple grand if you miss? It was dumb. She needed to bet all (or all but $100, if she wanted to ensure she’d stick around for FJ.) Had she done that, Drew could have been caught plus Adriana would have still been in it. Maddening.

Almost witnessed history, -$7200 score tonight, lowest ever apparently was -$7400. Hopefully contestant doesn't have to pay them the money.
Drew is very fast on the buzzer. Imagine how low that woman's score could have been if she'd been able to ring in regularly.

I am shocked to learn that in Wolf Blitzer's disastrous Celebrity Jeopardy appearance, he "only" lost $4600. I had thought it was much worse than that.

I'd rather see a bad guess than none at all.
Especially when it's a President question and their answer is "Who is (blank) ?"
Guess ONE of them at least!
If you're talking about Final Jeopardy, yes.

If you're talking about a ringing-in situation, a few Jeopardy champs have said their No. 1 piece of advice is "don't guess."

Thanks for pointing that out - I meant the Final and edited my post.

What was the strategy in that middle ladies wager?? She had enough to catch the moustache, but went with 1201?? I can't figure out what she was trying to do.
Also, that was the most corrections I have seen at once, scores were going all over the place

I like leisure suit Larry. He's smart, quick on the buzzer, and funny. Glad he made the TOC and wouldn't mind seeing him stay on a run for awhile.

He was challenged by both ladies last night. The wheels came off the lady on the right in double J and the one in the middle had an odd FJ wager.

I'm showing my age here...but I'm getting tired of the Rap music categories/questions. They seem to come up a lot lately.
I just don't care for that "music".

I just take a "pass" on it most of the time, like I do with opera.
I do weirdly well on opera, especially considering I don't like it.
As with many niche categories, the Jeopardy writers tend to reuse the same answers, so I've been helped that way at times.

The rap stuff is harder because it's not a niche category for younger people, so the range of people/songs involved is broader.

I just answer each with "Carmen". Eventually I get one right.
You can get two if Egypt is in the clue. Answer: Aida.

So, an interesting interview on today's season premiere. I think it is late enough to post this but just in case I'll use spoilers. This was WEIRD.

There was a "strategy consultant" who decided to introduce herself by saying her middle school hall monitor was a serial killer who buried 7 bodies under his house. Not sure I'd use her consulting business if this is the type of strategy they are producing.

I’d take that over most of the stories during the contestant interviews.

Kudos to Ken on his original run somehow finding 75 stories to tell.

It’s either Puccini or Verdi. I don’t know which is which, and I don’t know what either of them composed, but in the opera categories, I’d have a 50-50 shot.

If it mentions Germany, it's Wagner.
