Jets announce they have officially released Jerricho Cotchery

Still very young and is talented. What's a good spot for him to land in in your guys opinions?

This guy had PPR machine written all over him a few years ago. I am worried though because the Jets are not all the way there at WR, not sure why they woul let him walk. San Fran off the top of my head is a place where they need a guy wth good hands and Cotch could make a nice compliment opposite Crabtree if he ever gets on the field. They have Josh Morgan at the WR1 right now...HELP!!!

I wouldn't touch Cotchery with his back issues...there's a reason why the Jets let this pretty good WR go.

Probably an injury to him.Bump up DKNY some more. (JMO Keller is one of the biggest breakout candidates this year)
I don't get the Keller love. He will be the fifth option on passing downs after Holmes, Burress, Mason, and LT. Sure, he might have a few decent games if opponents don't have someone adequate to cover him, but in the main I think he will be more along for the right than driving the bus.

I put him FIRMLY #2. Don't think he can best a 34 year old (2 years removed from league), 37 year old Mason (probably more left than Burress) and LT (who will see the field sparingly)? He will put up career highs in all categories this year. 2 WR's with declining talent with little prep time with Sanchez aren't going to get in Keller's way.

I'm uncertain why anyone would not like Keller's situation this year. Someone you can get as your #2 TE and quite easily could put up Top 6-7 TE #'s. Trend I've noticed with fantasy footballers is jumping ship when players don't have the 'huge breakout' when they expect and sell them for pennies on the dollar.

His back, coupled with the price tag as a third wideout (if you buy into Plax) made him expendable. I don't like it, but it is the business side of the game, for sure.

According to Lisa Zimmerman of thejetsblog.com:

FLORHAM PARK–According to coach Rex Ryan, Jerricho Cotchery asked to be released or traded. When I asked Ryan if they would have kept him otherwise, Ryan indicated they would have.

Mark Sanchez said that Cotchery shared with him earlier in the week that he was going to ask for this, but declined to divulge any details of their conversation or any reasons Cotchery may have shared with him.

Rex Ryan shared no additional details either. If it were any other player I would say details would be out in a matter of hours. With Cotchery, I’m not so sure. We’ll have to see.

lots of talk radio/internet chatter here in SD about Cochery being a possibility. Not only were he and Rivers college teammates, but they went to rival HS's in Alabama, so they've known each other for a long, long time. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bolts take a flyer if Jericho will take less money to join the Chargers due to circumstance.

5th option? He was #2 in targets last year and with 2 more he would have been #1. The guy with the most targets just left.

One of my favorite Jets, for sure. Gutty WR who just plays - if his back is ok, I'm confident he'll do well somewhere else.

Agreed - my favorite Jet.Really going to miss him, and will continue to wear my #89 jersey with pride.

Keller led the Jets in receptions last season. Why would he now drop to the fifth otion, especially when Plax and Mason are old men that have no chemistry with Sanchez? Keller is the only Jets "receiver" who has been with Sanchez for his entire career now.

Heard on the radio they asked him to take a cut and he refused.
i'd suggest a new radio station, guy was only scheduled to make 1.8 mil. What were they gonna trim off that?He was pissed they kept signing WR's and pushing him the WR3 role so he asked to be traded or released, details: http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/6833667/new-york-jets-release-jerricho-cotchery

Seems to me like he's a significant upgrade to Crayton in San Diego. At least, that is best case scenario for his owners.

Yea, I got one too :)

I could have sworn I read somewhere last week when the release rumors began that he was due in the $4 million range. Is there any chance he had easily reachable incentives/roster bonuses in play?

Ward slowing down, rookie from last year not ready and also battling injuries, Wallace more of a deep threat than a move the sticks guy...yes this would make sense and not a horrible place to land for him. Big Ben would be the best QB he has ever worked with. On the surface I would like this. If Ward were to go down with is advancing age, Cotch could see real time in this offense.

Excellent! nice job MA

I think Ben will get comfortable with him pretty quick. He might not make a huge splash if Ward is good to go but I think at least 3-4 games in season it will be crystal clear you need to start Cotch. Whether it is an injury to one of the starters, whatever, Ben is an upgrade over Sanchez plain and simple.

Only a 1 year deal so Pitt is not thinking long term here. I'm sure he visited several teams and felt this was his best opp, especially to win a ring.

Hate to see him go to the Steelers, but good for him.

He may not put up much in the way of stats, but he will fit in very well from a gamer/hard nosed player standpoint.

Maybe it's the Jets homer in me, but besides home run Wallace, Cotch could easily become the most reliable guy there (assuming good health).

Does he get back to 80 receptions? With a QB like Ben, I think he just might.

Like Crotch better than Mason. Nice pickup for Steelers.
