Jerome Simpson (1 Viewer)

Speculation here: if he was not arrested on the spot with that amount of smoke, the woman (Aleen Smith) must have taken responsibility for ownership.
it's his house.
Feel free to throw out a reason why he was not arrested.
Wonder if it was a question over which office would arrest/prosecute - feds, CA, KY, etc?Just a guess because the story has a line which says:
The case will be addressed later Thursday by the Kenton County Prosecutor's Office, police said.

He could be arrested at any time once the investigation is complete. I'm just not sure if the "it's not me weed" defense works where 8 pounds are in your house along with sclaes, etc. Was she arrested yet? I'm not sure on that.

Regardless of your opinion of the law, if you're making loads of cash playing football... Wait till you're out of the league before you start dealing.

Bonehead.

Just speculating (and I really don't believe it), but some of these guys own multiple homes and house friends and family in them. It would have been a lot better towards his defense if he were not present, yet this defense did not work so well for Vick, so I think he is screwed. Also makes you wonder how efficient the drug testing policy is in the NFL.

I knew he was dumb but I didn't think he was stupid. Does anybody know what kind of criminal punishment would be handed down for trafficking in this amount of marijuana.
Per NORML.org:In KY, anything over 8oz is considered "Sale or Trafficking" -- Over 5 lbs of marijuana is a felony charge with a sentence of 5-10 years and a fine of $1,000 to $10,000. I don't really see how he gets out of this at all. Go pick up Caldwell.
I wonder who will take over slot. Tate? Hawkins? Whalen?
Does the slot even exist anymore for the Bengals? Seems like they played less 3 WR than almost anyone in the league the 1st 2 weeks. Lots and lots of 2 TEs sets.

Hopefully he is smart enough to pin this on the woman. Something like this: Jerome: It's my house go ahead and take a look around I've got nothing to hide. Police: holy #### you have 6 pounds of pot hidden in your closet! Jerome: No ####### way, that #### ain't mine, I've been away at training camp and the team facility and just came home today, I swear I didn't know that #### was in there. Jerome: Skank ##### what have you been doing dealing drugs out of my house, are you ####### stupid! Don't you know I can lose everything with you ####### around like this.Get this ##### out of my house and lock her ### up!

Were you a fly on the wall? As sad as it may sound, I am sure it went something like that...you missed one thing though.Jerome: Don't worry, I'll wait for you. I don't care how long you are in there.

Its not uncommon at all for the arrests to come later in a drug raid. They were after the evidence, not the suspects.

Love it.Wake up this morning. Drive to work. :drive: Open email to check Wed night waiver processing. :coffee: Missed out on David Nelson. Oh cool Jerome Simpson! Nice schedule. First of all, Simpson is an idiot for being involved with this with so much to lose.Secondly, obligatory statement about the ridiculous nature of marijuana laws in this country.
:goodposting: x 2.
Umm...Distribution is illegal in just about every country in the world. Possession? Not so much, but 8 pounds is hardly "personal"...
He did have his woman and a buddy. That's just over 2 and half pounds each :shrug:Besides, it came all the way from Caly - he probably just wanted to save on shipping costs by having a lot delivered at once - kind of like going to Sam's Club or Costco...except with weed.Everyone is so judgemental nowadays. Plus, I'm sure it was just medicinal.

That's the part that's going to make this very sticky. This isn't smoke a joint, have a bag in your car, etc. We're used to seeing that, and it's really no big deal. Pounds of weed? That's major, major stuff. If he's involved, his NFL career is on the shelf for quite some time.

Simpson was a 4th or 5th (??) round pick still on his rookie contract. My guess is he doesn't own multiple houses yet since he's making a nice living of course but is far from "rich".

Bump up AJ Green?

Andre Caldwell was a guy I liked, with Shipley out this could pave the way for him to assume the #2 position. I can't imagine the Bengals are going to let Simpson continue to take the field until this matters clears. Goodell's head will explode.

These days UPS is the main distribution method for that kind of quantity. Hundreds of pounds are delivered every day in this country. Probably 1% of it gets caught.

Not really unless the state has mandatory minimums. Jamal Lewis's conspiracy to deliver cocaine were much more serious. You get caught with 50 lbs of weed and as long as it is not all bagged up and you don't have a record you're doing 3-6 months in most cases, even on federal charges.

I'm surprised a lot of people aren't seeing the gravity in this as far as Simpson's "career" is concerned. Bye bye Jerome.

I dropped him from a couple of dynasty teams this morning after I learned of this, and he was immediately picked up by other owners. Whut? Folks, Simpson's NFL season is over. Possibly his career.

He was "excused" from practice today. You can be pretty sure (even though it's the wacko Bengals) that he won't play this Sunday. And he WILL be arrested. He just hasn't yet due to whatever legal stuff the authorities want to do first. They needed to seize evidence first, two states are involved so the Feds must get involved, etc.

Make no mistake, this is no small thing legally and career-wise regardless of your stance on pot. This was interstate, this was 8 pounds of an illegal substance and all the fixings, and this was his home. He's not going to get to pin it on some girl who signed for it. He's toast.

And half the Bengals team will have to find a new supplier for their weed. Such a shame.

Actually, with such a constant, consistent stream of criminals on that team for years and an owner who seems to think it's all just fine, plus his cheapness and horrible GM skills, that franchise ought to just be taken away and given to someone who can run it right. The league and commish are always harping about not 'tarnishing the shield.' Well, get rid of Mike Brown and you've solved a good portion of the problem.

Its the prohibition of marijuana that creates the market for illegal distribution in the first place. But we could go on about this all day. The SP is not the appropriate forum for that.Bottom line is Simpson is the latest Bengal to have F'd up big time. If I was someone who had just picked him up or was a Cincy fan I'd be upset but I'm neither so.... :coffee:

I dunno. There is a fair amount of plausible deniability in the shipping. I can't control what someone sends me. If UPS shows up with a package I sign for it. Not my fault UPS doesn't require ID for the sender.

Unless he's awaiting arraignment, they would let Simpson play I think - they generally have had the policy of letting the justice system play out.Caldwell is a definite buy, btw. The one thing that bummed me out about them drafting Green was that I figured it would bury Caldwell  . Like Simpson, he put up big numbers in the last 3 games last year but it was overlooked. He also worked his butt off to become a good run blocker. I'm glad they traded Ocho and kept him around.-QG

He may be referring not to this 2.5 pound package, but to shipping from the house to places like, for instance, Cincinnati Ohio. I don't know how much prep investigation was done before nabbing them for the 2.5, but it would make sense they have been watching what's been going in and out of that house for awhile.

I was referring to the 2.5 lb package (giggity) but honestly, I'm no lawyer. I'm uncertain on how much signing for the package screws you or doesn't. What I do know is that a kid I went to college with was busted for having 250 Ecstasy tablets mailed to him through USPS to the college mail room. In that instance, he never signed for the package, but he still ended up serving 2 years in prison. I'm not familiar with the specifics of either case, though.

I was a little high on Simpson during the offseason, but that was before the definite loss of Palmer and a few other negatives, notably how he interviews. The guy doesn't seem very bright at all. I would say he even sounded pretty simple-minded. After a few seasons on the team he seemed to have spent enough time there to grasp onto how things worked in Cinci, but now with Palmer gone, im sure the offensive scheme has changed quite a bit...at least enough for Simpson to fall behind on the learning curve again. I'm not expecting much from him anymore, at least not until later in the season if he even can bring it together. I can definitely be wrong, but I'm looking elsewhere for potential. I let him go in my main league.
That's nice, but I haven't seen any evidence that suggests there's a correlation between intelligence and being a good WR.
How about now?

Read some bungles blog that said Simpson is probably looking at 4 weeks suspension by Goodell...sucks. I was looking to pick him up too.

Sentencing guidelines and mandatory minimums are two entirely different things. Felonys get pled down. This case isn't going to trial. Regardless of what happens to his NFL career, there is no way he sits more than 6 months unless other substances, guns, or a highly developed case was being conducted. It will most likely be a federal prosecution and not a state one because it was through the mail. Federal MJ trafficking for up to 50 kg is a MAX of 5 years. Trafficking charges probably don't stick in this case.

Good to know, thanks for the info.
