Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan worked out for the Atlanta Falcons this week, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

The workout included Falcons coach Mike Smith and general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

Regarded as the top slot wide receiver in the draft, Troy standout Jerrel Jernigan boosted his stock with fast times in the 40-yard dash at his campus Pro Day workout with a 4.32 and a 4.38 clocking, according to an NFL scouting director.

That was an improvement from his 4.46 time at the NFL scouting combine. He also registered a 38-inch vertical leap.

Per a source, NFL teams are concerned that Jernigan might not last until the latter portion of the second round.

Seventeen NFL teams attended the workout where Jernigan ran routes and caught punts, performing well in those drills.

Among the formal interviews Jernigan conducted at the combine: the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers.

Hernigan is a 5-foot-9, 190-pound three-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection and the league's all-time leader with 3,128 receiving yards, 262 receptions and 5,971 total yards.

Jernigan caught a school record 84 passes for 822 yards and six touchdowns last season.

He also rushed for 322 yards and three touchdowns last season, running back one punt and kickoff apiece for scores.

An ankle injury suffered in the New Orleans Bowl sidelined him for the Senior Bowl.
