Jesse Lumsden signs with Redskins (1 Viewer)

Betts gone? Whaddya mean? Free agency? He was hurt alot this year so is there an injury that made ya sau "he's gone"?Anyone signed now is just a guy they'd like to see in camp. Often times players signed in late december and january go to NFLE too. Why do you think this guy's special?

Betts gone??? what?? I dont think so. He's not going to get an amazing deal in FA. I dont see a team giving him a starting job either, plus he is going to be excited about having Saunders around.

The Skins have been rumoured to let Betts go - draft a young RB in the draft and reduce some cap figures. Betts could draw decent omney is an NFL backup.Lumsden might be one of Canada's best RB's ever. Good kid, runs a 4.3 40 time and is very strong as evidenced in last year's East/West Shrine game.

Will Lumsden should be able to make the squad - Betts has been rumoured to possibly be gone long ago.

I will look for link - Thanks!

I can't recall his name but they also really love another young RB Sultan McCllough or something like that. He has been in and out of the team the past year. Played well in preseason, but got cut, then signed to the practice squad......

Sultan Maculough? I thought he was 5' 10" and 190# or so, more of a third down back (he isnt listed on the depth charts here or at ourlads.com. If Portis was out for 8+ games I don't think Betts could handle the full time load and Rock Cartwright is the fullback who no longer even gets any goal line looks. Nehemiah Broughton is listed behind Cartwright. He's another fullback type So this kid has a shot. Number five on the depth chart is a guy named Kerry Carter -don't know anything about him.

They released McCullough awhile back and the Browns signed him, I believe. The guy he's most likely to replace is Rock Cartwright, I'd say.

That's a shame. I love Rock Cartwright.....I mean christ his name is Rock. How cool is that??

Being Canadian and having watched Lumsden more than the average fan. I can tell you with confidence that he will never make a big impact in the pro's.He does not have the speed or the power to be an effective back in the NFL. Not sure what Wash is doing here.

Rock Cartwright is the fullback who no longer even gets any goal line looks.
 1-4-SF4 (9:30) R.Cartwright right tackle for 4 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

1-10-SD13 (3:19) R.Cartwright left guard for 13 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

You credibility has been shown Bankerguy. I have seen many games with Lumsden - the kid can play and to say he does not have the speed - shows you are not overly knowledgeable.I have probably seen Lumsden play more than you have - the kid is a player. Poor TiCats for losinghim!

Kerry Carter is on the Skins team now? He was with the Seahawks for a few years - product of Toronto Ontario and I believe a RB at Stanford. Decent player, but no upside - currently practise squad player at best.

Doesen't he run a 4.4 40???? I don't know if he will amount to a good pro, but to say it is because of speed is false.

O. K. big score. Rock cartwright gets a minimum of goal line work 2 out of 20 for rb's. 5 of 73 "looks" for rb's inside the red zone. It seemed Mike Sellers and Chris Cooley got a lot of goal line action. Before Gibbs, Cartwright was a good goal line FF option

Before Gibbs, Cartwright was a good goal line FF option
 Pre Gibbs, Cartwright played two years for the Skins.

His 1st pre Gibbs year, Cartwright had a total of 0 rushing TD's.

His 2nd pre Gibbs year, Cartwright had a total of 4 rushing TD's.

If you think 4 TD's over the course of 2 years is a good goal line FF option, I've got some beach front property in Arizona for sale.

Signed as a free agent by Seattle after the draft last year. Didn't make the practice squad. I doubt he'll be on an NFL roster.

I thought he could have made the practice squad in Seattle but he wanted to play in the CFL instead of just being on the practice team. (i am not sure i thought i remembered reading that). He also had an injury for much of the Seattle training camp which hampered his chances of making anything.

Now that you mention it, I think you're right. I remember something about a CFL request, but I'm not clear on the details.

There's nothing wrong with my credibility. Yes his straight line speed is fine. Hoever, he is not "game fast". I 100% stand by the fact this guy will NEVER be a even a solid NFL RB.So, let's chat about about your credibilty? Why are you pimping a no talent scrub?

Why let Betts go, isn't he as cheap as a rookie they'll draft?

He got cut from the Hawks after many thought he had a chance. It may have been partly because he was injured, but still would have never made the roster. No way he does anything in the NFL.

He was injured for part of TC, but he was just cut, plain and simple.

I'm late to this discussion, obviously, but it's amusing to me that a guy signed to get a look during minicamps and (if he lasts that long) during training camp has generated this much discussion. Betts is a RFA, and he'll probably be back. He's excelled in the backup/spot duty role behind Portis, and has shown the capability to be an effective starter when called upon. The glut of RB talent available in FA and the draft this year will kill his chances to sign for a starters job elsewhere, which means he may as well stay on the team that likes him and seems to be headed the right direction. Cartwright will almost certainly remain on the team because he too has performed at least acceptably as a backup, but more importantly he's a special teams star and Gibbs loves him for that. For Lumsden to take Rock's job he'll have to not only outshine him as a RB, but also outshine him on special teams which will be very difficult. I have no idea what Nehemiah Broughton's going to do. I think he's on the practice squad another year - he was going to be a project anyway - and then they'll decide next year what they want to do with him.

This certainly doesn't bode well for him being a great RB:

Lumsden had hoped to impress NFL teams at the recent combine of draft-eligible players, but wasn't picked to participate.

Yeah sorry...... I just don't like my "credibility" being questioned.
Your credibility is worthless here. The guy runs a 4.4 time - and you say he is game slow.Did you see him at Hamilton or Mac - or are you just a pretender who talks like you know ofhis skills set?

I don't think that a guy can start in the CFL and have no shot at making an NFL roster. If he had some cutback ability he would make the skins, but he is basically poor man's Craig James, his ability to return kicks or tackle on kickoff and punt coverage will determine whether he can make an NFL roster.......

Yes, I have seen him play in London against UWO. He had a killer line for Canadian College Football. Most of his runs were dead straight. I'll repeat, he is not fast enought to be speed back in the NFL, and lacks the power to be BIG back.He does squat in the NFL.

The day Lumsded in starting in the NFL......I'll come to the this site pronounce you the smartest man ever on the planet. I will never return again to the site as my credibility will be shot.

Until then.......Shhhhhhhh.

Good summary here. Betts will certainly be a Redskin next year. Gibbs has praised Rock Cartright a lot, calling him a true Redskin. The praise started near the end of preseason last year and has not stopped. Rock Cartright is almost certain to make the team next year. I thought Nehemiah Broughton was on the roster and actually active a few games (probably when Betss was out injured). I don't know if they consider him a keeper or not.

For any free agent RB like Lumsden to make the team, they will definately need to excel on special teams (to get Brougton's roster spot). They will need injuries to Portis, Betts, or Cartright (2 at the same time) to get any playing time.

No one is questioning him being a starter - I am questioning your theory on him not being fast. I have seen him play many times - and watched him over the years shred the weak Mustangs defense - whiel his line was studly - he played well even at times on a poor TiCats team last year.

The funny thing is he is a much better athlete(in terms of speed) than his dad. His dad was a CFL version of Alstott back in the 70's........ :excited:
