Wrong forum I know. But I have to say it:

Jim Rome is the most obnoxious rectal opening I have ever heard on the radio. Unfortunatly, he has a show on 104.3 the FAN in Denver and he expands that opening every time I listen to him.

Does anyone like this guy ?

I would rather spend time with O.J. Simpson !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gimme some more Cecil & Sigmund. Please !

I enjoy Rome Is Burning on ESPN, but if I listened to his radio show, he would probably annoy the piss out of me, too, as he is definitely better in small doses.

Jim Rome rules. Deal with it. :excited:
He used to be great before he sold out. He used to call guys out constantly. Now he's more about guests, making buddy buddy, playing nice. Back in the old days he never used to have on big time guests daily, it was just him ranting on guys 24.7. But he's got the show, he's older, he plays nice wayyyy too much. He used to just kill people for an hour, it was awesome. Currently he'll only rag on all but the worst offenders, the big time ####### who everyone else rags on. It's just gotten boring.

I still listen when I am in the car when he is on. Have not found anything better during that time slot.

 If I'm driving home and he's on, I won't change the channel. There's worse things to listen to. But I'm also not RainMan about the guy either..."Uh-Oh! 3 minutes to Rome."

His tv show is decent.

His radio show is HORRIBLE. Its just a bunch of lame callers calling in trying to do their best Rome impersonation. None of them are insightful or witty...much like Rome.

I used to listen to Rome back when I also liked Law & Order. Rome's shtick got old, Law & Order turned to cold re-hash every week, and I find it a little hard to believe that they are both still on the air. I don't have any hate for the man, certainly, but he's kind of a day-old sandwich.

Understood, unfortunatly, if we want to listen to sports radio, the ever growing rectal opening is the only choice at times. That's the ONLY reason i listen to him.

Funny you should post this today ... I listen to Cowherd on my drive in (West Coast) and just recently started flipping on commercials to the Dan Patrick show, which I find palatable.

Well, I guess Rome comes on after Patrick, and this morning I drove in a bit after 9am because I voted, and so I switched over to what I thought would be Patrick when Cowherd was on commercial, and I was treated to about 45 seconds of the most insufferable, miserable, angry radio I had heard in quite some time. (aka Jim Rome)

He was just going on some needless rant about people asking him who he voted for, a pretty innocuous and perhaps mildly annoying social situation you might face. But the anger and venom and ranting going on was way over the top and forced.

I switched back to ESPN radio and listened to commercials instead.

I can not get myself to listen to Dan Patrick. Could you ask yourself more questions? Plus, his "cutting edge" thoughts on things are really stupid.

I'm not a fan of Patrick, and wouldn't listen to the show exclusively, but it beats listening to the same ten commercials over and over on ESPN radio. I've only been listening a week or so, but when I am he usually has on pretty good guests which is worthwhile; when he is carrying the show himself, it's not too engaging.

 I highlighted what I think hits the nail on the head. There's no genuineness there anymore.
:lmao: :lmao: You guys don't get it. You guys are almost as funny as the show itself.

Here's a hint....he knows he's being arrogant over the top and forced. It's his schtick. He's joking, people...and his focus is entertainment, he's not a news reporter. If you are listening to Rome's show expecting to get the latest insight into your favorite teams, you are going to be sorely disappointed. He's not really outraged about the people harassing him after voting...its like an episode of Seinfeld, people aren't really that neurotic on a regular basis, they are caricatures. He's just being a caricature and acting over the top and forced on purpose.

Jim Rome is as relevant today as his '90s goatee. If you can find Phil Hendrie's hilarious impression of Rome on the Internet, it's worth hearing.

But as bad as Rome is, it's the listeners who wait for that perfect moment to fax, call or text some lame joke that invoke my pity. I mean, who are these people?

Mostly people without a life. Sometimes they are really clever, but it is almost funnier when they are just stupid. And over half of Rome's show is making fun of them. The new triple-U segment he does for the text contest cracks me up every time I catch it.

Probably the same kind of people who spend a lot of time on FF Forum Boards. Someone else out there has pity for us.

This thread has helped my fantasy team by leaps and bounds.
So has your post, officer! Thanks a heap! :lmao:

Spit out the hook. I'm about to become embarrassed for you.
So you were fishing with the mock board police bit?Consider me hooked, then! :lmao:At least you released me clean and the hook mark shouldn't scar too bad.

However, if you discount all the 15 second pauses between sentences in his 24/7 rants, he's only ranting about 10/5.

Well, I only listened to him for 45 seconds, but nevertheless I apologize for not "getting" Rome's schtick. Perhaps he is an acquired taste, but if it's all the same, I'll just move on to the next meal.

Music down? I just take a break from sports radio and listen to a radio station or cd when Rome is on. I agree with the others that posted that a 30 min tv show with Rome is pretty good. A 3 hour radio show with Rome is pure torture.

I agree with the OP that 104.3 The Fan needs to lose this clown. Bring Irv and Joe back.

:D Jim Everett attempting to kill Rome live on TV back in the day was golden

That was awesome, I played golf one day with Everett & Jackie Slater at Yorba Linda Country Club in Orange County, Ca. and we discussed that. Everett had harsher words about Rome than me refering to him as an ever enlarging rectal opening. Everett said something to the effect that Rome was a rectal opening many times larger than the Grand Canyon.

I agree !

Yup. Rome didn't care who he pissed off, he was trying to make a name for himself. Now he's just cashing in. He's all buddy buddy with everyone. And I know for a fact he sold out to Nascar, having drivers on every week, hyping up the sport. He used to KILL nascar. Then suddenly he liked it, and invited every driver on. Oh well.

And if you take away the time he repeats the same sentence over and over, or restates them in a slightly different manner, his 3 hour show could fit into a 30 minute segment.Listening to his callers is almost as painful.

To me, he is not really serving any purpose; he is not providing meaningful sports content, and he sure as hell is not entertaining. Just my humble opinion!

Wow you've never heard Howard Stern? (Actually it's just as well.......)But you're right of course; saying Rome sucks is well into the water-is-wet territory.Except of course the way......he.....takes.......lonnnnnnng..........pauses..........................That is SO fun to listen to. Really.

As I said in a previous post, I used to like the show. I "get the shtick". It's just old, old, old shtick. Old, forced, played-out shtick.
