JJ cutting into MBIII goal line carries? (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
The Cowboys did not take JJ out with the ball on the two yesterday and Jones put the ball in the endzone.

Having MBIII in two leagues this was a little disturbing to me. I know that Jones can score from the 1-2 just as easy, but that is Barbers job!! :goodposting:

I hope they don`t start making a habit out of this. GLBC

whoever is in the game stays in the game. barber is no longer being put in at the goal line in favor of JJ.

When did this come about?

Correct. Although, I believe there was 1 occasion when JJ came out on a GL because he was winded. Miami game I believe.

i think the coaches were just giving jj some love since they were playing the lowly rams. he is in a contract year and he would like to pad his stats. unfortunately, barber is obviously the far superior player so jj's opportunities like this may be few and far between. i am a jj owner and would love to see him get half the td's or whatever but i don't see it happening (barring injury). it's ridiculous how much better barber is. he is constantly breaking tackles for big gains. jj really doesn't impress me whatsoever. maybe the system that dallas is running is keeping barber fresh and maybe he wouldn't be as effective if he was the full-time workhorse back, but he is so much better than jj that it is almost insane.

Jones had to climb and scratch his way to the goal line on that play. I bet Barber would have walked in. I own Jones and he is a wimp. I put him on notice and he is really asking to be flat out cut.

I'm a Barber owner, but even I find the tenor of this thread a little rich. Jones and Barber split their carries 50/50; I take it for granted that Jones is going to score some TDs this year, even if Barber is the "goal line back." If Jones starts scoring half the TDs over a prolonged stretch, then I'll worry.

The Cowboys are not removing J Jones inside the redzone like they did last year. If it's Jone's drive and they get inside the redzone, he stays in. The problem is they haven't gotten inside the 5 like that on J. Jone drives yet this season.

If you're a MBIII owner it's hard to get upset over 1 week of Jones getting the TD, MBIII has performed more than expected to this point.

Barring injury, it's safe to say Jones will score at least 4 TDs this season and possibly 6-7. So it was unrealistic to assume he would get 0. This was the first of those touchdowns. The Cowboys have talked since the start of camp that they want to use him more in goal-line situations but this is the first time they've actually followed through. Given how Jones scored, chances are we'll see him get a few more chances to see if he can convert. There's no question Barber is and will remain the goal-line option but if Jones continues to show he can be counted on in those situations as well it just makes an already potent offense even more potent.

:excited:they're not rotating plays within a series anymore, they're just rotating series.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. I think it is pretty clear they still use MBIII as the primary back when they are running out the clock in the fourth quarter, which seems to be almost every game these days. I would be much more worried about Romo's running for TDs. He didn't do it last year at all except for one two point conversion, but now that his passing is so respected, it opens the field for him to run for TDs. Two rushing TDs in four games.

The notion of MBIII being a dominant short yardage back is a myth.

TDs are tough to predict, the margin for getting them is razor thin.

Could the 'Boys possibly be showcasing JJ a little for a possible trade?

There are a few people on this board I have learned to listen too.
lol, the dude doesn't even live here.
We have discussed this before. Does it really matter where I live?My internet works, so I can read the same articles as you. I watch everything there is Cowboy related. I listen to the ticket, through other sites I read transcripts of almost every PC from Jerry to Wade to Mickey to the LBOH. I have never understood that only people who live close by are "true" fans.

...and LOL, it's not I pretend I am from Dallas. My profile clearly says "Canada eh".

let him get his TDs the old fashioned way, from 20 or 30 yards out. Give the ball to the barbarian inside the 10 :stalker:

the best team in the NFC going to trade an important part of the run game, right :fishing:have you ever thought the old and new coaching staff does not think JJ or MB3 can be a featured back.

Or they think the combination of the two of them together works so well there's no reason to give one of them 20+ carries a game.

A Canadian is the authority on the Dallas Cowboys, HILARIOUS!!!!! Remind me not to listen to you.
Can I still ask him about bacon, hockey and overweight comedians?
Wow, brilliant. You forgot strip clubs too.Can we get this back on topic.FSU.....nice post. I agree.
And exactly how many Cowboys games have you watched? How many training camp sessions did you attend to make this assessment?????

This is a very short sample size... but I did some research on this during the course of last week to determine how badly I wanted to overpay for MBIII in a league I'm in.

Over last season and this season (before yesterday).... MBIII scored at least 1 TD in every single Cowboy win.

MBIII only scored 2 TD's in the Cowboys losses last year.

My guess is that during the course of this season (due to the NFC being bad more than anything else) the Cowboys will end up something like 12 - 4 or 13 - 3. Therefore (if the last year and previous 3 games this year are any indication) MBIII will get many more opportunities to score TD's in the near future.

I was a Barber owner last season and it was ridiculous how this pattern held up. If you believed the Cowboys were going to win, you started Barber without hesitation. And each and every time he came through with at least 1 TD. That's why yesterday was a bit of a surprise. The Cowboys won and Barber didn't score.

:goodposting: Really not sure why I am being attacked here. Someone gave me a compliment for being knowledgeable about the Cowboys. I'm not spouting off I am the most knowledgeable. Most respect me for giving an honest opinion about decisions made, stats, and forecasting. A prime example of the opposite is YOUR own post about Dallas vs. NE. Simply ridiculous thread you started. "HEY LOOK AT ME". ....and I am the "unknowledgeable" one!Since you are so interested:I attend usually 2 games a year. No, I do NOT attend TC.I read everything written on the Cowboys (Both local and National coverage)Watch or read recaps of every PC.Am a respected member at Cowboy message boards.Call it even......I'll buy you a beer at the Bills game on Monday night. ;)

Wow BDK you seem to be super paranoid about this. You do know that almost all press conferences and virtually everything a team does (if it is released to the public) is available on the web.If you are a solid talent evaluator and can go to the training camp and/or workouts - then why the heck are you not working for the Cowboys - I just do not understand it. NFL teams are always hungry for scouts and people with the ability to find those small little nuances that make impact and pro bowl players.

They were throwing JJ a bone and it was a good week to do so.
The coaching staff threw JJ a bone with a 0-0 tie and Dallas not moving the ball well in the first Q.Also, MB3 was not getting an IV at the time (He got it at the half), he was the first to congratulate JJ on the sidelines.Don't let the facts ruin a great opinion.

Bankerguy knows his Cowboys. Not sure why he's being attacked, nor am I sure why someone would think you're incapable of following a team if you don't live in the same city. Either listen to him or don't-seems fairly simple.

Thanks for clearing that up. The Scientist has proven many times before that he's no Einstein.
