Joe Haden (1 Viewer)

I never paid a tremendous amount of attention to who would be covering my WRs but use it as a tie breaker. I have that situation this week with a decision between the over-rated Dez Bryant and DHB.

Does Joe Haden play a side of the field or man? I guess I know the answer is man, but have there been tendencies of who he covers already observed by others here? Is there a book written on him that we can go by?

austin has been playing the slot a lot. so he wont lock on to austin. he may or may not lock on to dez. i'd go with DHB but its close

He rarely is assigned a specific player, only if there is only one threat. Dallas has multiple threats

over-rated Dez Bryant
Over Rated yet you drafted him :lmao: Anyone who's read scouting reports on Dez knew what to expect. Either hit or miss most weeks with the potential to have a good season statistically. Just not consistent and his route running/coverage reads aren't a strong suit. :shrug:On the match up I expect Haden to be on Dez quite a bit. For the most part the oppositions #1 CB has been matched up with Dez this year. I expect the same this week. Austin like another poster wrote can play multiple spots in the offense so he most likely wont see the bulk of coverage with Haden. I don't think Haden has ever been set to 1 specific side (like Asomugha). Good thing about the match up this week is that Cleveland has been torched in the secondary on the road this year. I expect the same Sunday and even if Haden is on Dez at times that still doesn't mean Dez wont hit a big play.Based on both DHB & Dez' match ups I wouldn't fault you for going DHB since I expect the Raiders to trail early. NO@Raiders could easily be a much higher scoring game also.

Joe Haden might not even play this weekend. He injured his oblique Wednesday and didn't practice Thursday.
Yep, he is hurt and may not play.If Joe can't go then rookie CB Trevin Wade will get playing time and likely will be assigned to Miles Austin in the slot.

The last time Wade played it was ugly. He was utterly lost against Cincinatti in the second game.

He may have gotten over rookie jitters or whatever it was that was effecting him in that game because he was so awful he got beched and was inactive for games after that stinker.

In the preseason Wade looked good and I was upbeat before that first game.

If he gets PT in this game I'll be watching to see if we see the solid cover guy we saw in preseason or the lost rookie we saw against the Bengals.

In any event Joe is sketchy to play.

Browns Haden's status uncertain for game against Cowboys

BEREA, Ohio -- Life without Joe Haden hasn't been kind to the Browns this season, and unfortunately, they might be forced to endure it again.

Haden did not practice Thursday because he injured an oblique muscle Wednesday during practice. He might try to play through the pain Sunday, when the Browns (2-7) visit the Dallas Cowboys (4-5), but his status is uncertain.

Stopping Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and his top targets - tight end Jason Witten and wide receivers Dez Bryant and Miles Austin - certainly wouldn't be easy without Haden.

"It'll definitely put us in a bind," middle linebacker D'Qwell Jackson said. "Having him out there, the guy practices hard, he plays tremendously hard, he loves to do it. You can't replace him. The guys we have behind him, I got total confidence in those guys, I really do. But you want Joe out there."

Haden is the team's top cornerback, and the Browns discovered his true value earlier this season. When Haden served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances - he said Adderall use triggered his failed drug test - the Browns went 0-4.

In the four games Haden missed, the Browns allowed 1,141 yards and 10 touchdowns through the air. In the four games since he returned from his suspension in Week 6, they have yielded 874 passing yards and four passing touchdowns.

"You see how talented he is," free safety Usama Young said. "In this game, when guys go down, you've gotta have guys that are gonna step up and play at a high level. . . . We've got some young boys that are hungry, ready to play. Hopefully (Haden) will play, but we don't know yet."

Oblique injuries can sideline players for different lengths of time depending on the severity. Rookie strongside linebacker James-Michael Johnson hurt an oblique Aug. 30 in the preseason finale and missed the first four games of the regular season as he dealt with discomfort.

If Haden can't play through his injury, rookie Trevin Wade would cover the slot receiver in the nickel package while fellow cornerbacks Sheldon Brown and Buster Skrine line up on the outside. If Haden can play, the Browns would continue to use Skrine to guard the slot with Haden and Brown stationed on the outside. Dimitri Patterson, the team's top nickel corner, is expected to miss his fifth consecutive game with a high ankle sprain and torn ligament.

In Week 2, Wade received his most extensive playing time of the season, tallying 33-of-69 snaps (48 percent) in the Browns' 34-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He gave up a 50-yard touchdown pass to slot receiver Andrew Hawkins in the fourth quarter.

"I'm just trying to stay ready in case (Haden) can't go," said Wade, a seventh-round pick. "I'll just go out there and play the best I can and try to help the team."

Wade would be assigned to cover Austin, who often lines up in the slot in three-receiver sets. He has 43 catches to go along with a team-high 669 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Bryant has 45 catches for 590 yards and three touchdowns...

great analysis all, thanks. To clarify, I did not draft Dez... I accepted him based on the upside since I was already strong at receiver with Percy Harvin & Demaryius Thomas, I traded away Julio Jones for Dez Bryant, Bears D & Turbin (my handcuff during a time when Matt Forte ((my other RB)) was out & Lynch's back was flaring up.

ended up being a great trade for me.

The latest on Haden:

Coach Pat Shurmer has deemed Joe Haden (oblique) a game-time decision for Sunday at Dallas.

It's important news for Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. The Browns have been a different team with their best defensive player out of the lineup, rivaling the Saints and Bucs for the most burnable secondary in the NFL. If Haden can't play, Sheldon Brown and Buster Skrine will start, with rookie Trevin Wade in the nickel. Nov 16 - 12:30 PM
