I watched the game pretty closely and it looked to me like the Lions were mainly operating out of a spread formation in this game, even after they opened up a big lead. This put Denver into their nickel package quite often, which meant that Mays was on the bench in favor of Wesley Woodyard.
When he was out there, he just wasn't near the ball very often as they were running plays away from him most of the time.
