Joey Harrington (1 Viewer)

I was just doing some random querying of my database and I accidentally stumbled across the following fact:

Since 1980, there have been 352 instances of a QB throwing 400 or more passes in a season© Of those 352, the very bottom two in terms of yards per attempt belong to Joey Harrington© That is astounding© To have the single worst season would be one thing© But he's got the two worst© His two seasons in the league rank #351 and #352 out of 352©

I know that people's opinions of yards/attempt as a measuring stick vary, and I know that Harrington is young and not exactly in a potent offense, but still, sheesh© Those 350 other QBs contain a lot of young guys in rough situations©

Just something interesting I noticed©
Doug, any thoughts on Harrington this year? How did his 2004 performance impact your opinion of him?

When Joey leaves detroit, he'll go somewhere else and be a successful QB. HE's got talent, he just has had horrible luck at WR, a poor scheme, some awful coaching. He confidence is at an all time low.

How many teams in the league that DON'T have that will want Joey?

KC will want him ... Trent is getting old ...

Gotta take my lumps on this one - I really didn't think Harrington was this bad. What do Harrington, Rick Mirer, Steve Walsh, Kent Graham, Mike Phipps, Bobby Douglass, Steve Spurrier, Jack Concanon and **** Wood all have in common? The only QB's with over 1000 passing attempts and less than 6 YPA for their careers. Harrington is the 2nd lowest behind Douglass at 5.56 YPA.

How can anybody defend his play? Yeah I'm sure Joey plays for the worst team ever crafted, his receivers are nothing more than over-rated junior varsity highschool players and his runningback is almost as good as Christopher Reeve is now (dead). PLEASEEEEEE I don't know why some of you can't accept reality... HES AWFUL. PERIOD. He'll be gone soon and that will be that. Atleast he's rich.

:goodposting: He is garbage. The Lions are counting the days they can get a gimpy Garcia in the lineup. He is terrible in the red zone. To think he had the nerve to bash the Bengals prior to his draft. Well he went ahead and ruined the Detroit franchise for years instead.

Fast forward 2 years - Joey sells insurance during the day and plays at one of those dueling piano chick bars on the side in the evening.

I didn't care for Dilfer until well into his career. I don't think many did. IIRC Mirer was on an NFL team last year and maybe even this last preseason. He's got talent so he'll stay around in the NFL. Previously was but two examples. Akili Smith lasted til this last summer and well did he even throw 200 passes in the NFL? Jeff George has been hanging around for "forever". We could go on and on with examples. NFL GMs are often guilty of ignoring results and just considerring talent. NFL coaches all believe they can make someone a better player, they're supposed to think that way. Combining the GMs+coaches....he'll be around a while.

ok, he's not horrible but he's not good either. Why make him out to be the worst qb ever? What about danny kanell? or rick mirer?None of his receivers can stay healthy, his running back finally had a good game last week and detroit's defense is pretty bad. Add those up and they don't help harrington look good.Carr has barely been better so why is he not crucified?Harrington sucked in college too so if Detroit didn't see this coming i don't know what to say. I remember laughing when detroit picked him becasue he should have dropped to late first round status like losman and ramsey - who both suck too by the way

Talent would've at least given Williams a chance to catch that 4th down, game ending pass in the game against Tampa Bay. Say what you want about the Pollard catch and review, that last pass on 4th down was horrible. Instead of giving Williams a chance at a jump ball (one on one no less), some kid in the front row gets a souvenir. I'm so sick of Joey, I wouldn't complain if they brought Ryan Leaf in for a tryout! ;)

That game should not have come down to 4th down. Pollards catch was a TD and Mike Willimams did not get get his foot down and the next play. That being said I have lost all my faith in Harrington too.

When the RainBow Warrior is helathy he will take Joeys job!

Jeff Gordon is an NFL Quarterback??? :D

Not really defending, but the Lions have a shotty Offensive line and have done nothing to improve it really over the past few years. Woody was a nice add... but they have struggled all around. That goes for Carr too. Terrible offensive line.

As long as Andre Ware played in the NFL Joey can't be the worst Detroit qb ever........ :excited:
Long list of sucky detroit qb's:Jeff Komlo

Andre Ware

Chuck Long

Bob Gagliano

Rusty Hilger

Stoney Case

Charlie Batch

Scott Mitchell

Some decent QB's but nothing to write home about:

Rodney Peete

Gary Danielson

Eric Hipple

Eric Kramer

What a sorry ### franchise list of QB's, and that's just what I remember the past 25 years.

What about the worst starting QB with any veteran longevity?
Not even close - Mike Phipps (CLE/CHI).886/1799 (49.2%), 55 TD/108 INT

Harrington is a class above Phipps on INT's alone.

Although Mark Malone (PIT/SD) deserves an honorable mention:

839/1648 (50.9%), 60 TD/81 INT

To give Harrington a bit of credit, all four teams he has faced this year are in the top 11 in yards allowed:GB - #11@CHI - #7@TB - #3BAL - #4The bad news is that rest of his schedule isn't much better after the next two games:CAR - #27@CLE - #24CHI - #7@MIN - #14AZ - #12@DAL - #16ATL - #21MIN - #14@GB - #11CIN - #10@NO - #8@PIT - #20

How bad is he? I dropped him for Josh McCown, who is on bye this week. I also have Favre (bye) and Griese (sucks). We start 2 QB.

Joey might not last at Detroit, but he'll be a productive QB on his next team. He's also the best piano player in the NFL.

Just a nice weekly relevant stat for you ;Joey's career QB rating vs. Carolina is just over 20.

I agree ... he is, more than likely, the second coming of Rick Mirer.

I liked Ware :bag: I never understood why Chicago went away from Kramer.

He had 3800 yards

hurt

3k in 15 games

then 1800 in 8 games

He put up yards.

At worst Ware would have been able to match Joey's production given the opportunity. Not as if that's saying anything, but the amount of chances Joey has had for as little as he has done is probably unprecedented in this league.

My vote for current worst QB on a roster goes to Ty Detmer. It seems that teams keep this guy around for his "mentoring" skills, but his QB skills leave much to be desired. I would rather have Joey than Ty.

I have FINALLY given up on him in fantasy football, and definitely given up on him in real life (being a Lions fan).Bring someone new in please!

So far, the upside to Harrington might be that he'll end up a journeyman QB like Testerverde or Chris Chandler. Testerverde was horrible for a very very very long time. He was fortunate in that the bulk of his playing career happened when the NFL was a QB wasteland. In the 80s and early 90s, there were maybe 6-7 teams that had good QBs and the rest was a giant revolving door. The downside to Harrington is he lacks Testerverde's leadership. Jay Fiedler is an average to a slightly below average QB. But he leads his team, his players believe he will find a way to win games and not screw things up. Its the intangible stuff that makes Fiedler a decent backup QB in the NFLHarrington has poor leader ship skills. You don't get the idea that he has alot of urgency, you don't get the idea that he'd slap another guy in the face for blowing a route. Trent Dilfer is not a very good QB, but he is a good leader, it counts for alot on the field. He knows how to manage a game. Even with a poor supporting cast, Harrington is not a leader. I don't care what talent he has, his troops will not follow him into hell ot get the job done. He mumbles through interviews, stares at his toes, doesn't assert himself. I'm sorry, but what made Troy Aikman a decent QB was he'd get in the face of a WR who slacked off. GB WRs fear the wrath of Brett Favre if they don't get the job done. No one wanted to let old man John Elway down towards the end. I personally would love to see Harrington beat up an opposing teams mascot, to call out his players in the press, to show some piss and vinegar on the sidelines. Throw things, use profanity, make bold predictions about his team, beat someone down. Anything to show his team that losing is not acceptable and that people will get hurt for not getting the job done. Anything to show he would do anything and everything to win no matter what the cost. Until then, hes just a journeyman

The Portland Tribune, Aug 1, 2011, Updated 2.2 hours ago

Former NFL and University of Oregon quarterback Joey Harrington was injured in a bicycle accident Sunday evening.

Harrington, 33, was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, Harrington was riding a bicycle westbound on Southeast Foster Road at about 8:24 p.m. when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. Police officers with the East Precinct responded to the accident.

Police say Harrington was hit by a Toyota RAV4 being driven by 24-year-old Derek Johnson. Johnson was driving west on Foster behind Harrington when he struck the bicycle’s rear tire, causing the crash.

Police cited Johnston for following too close.

Harrington is working for Fox Sports as a radio analyst in Portland.

Nice blast from the past here.

I miss the times when there were more threads like this and a lot of the posters in this thread posted more often in the Shark Pool.

:lmao: @ haggling over a Lions #3 jersey. You'd think one could leave it out by the curb with no takers, but this guy wants that extra $3.

I hope he can still drink his Pinot Noir and play his piano.

Yeah, he was horrible. Worst...ever? Not sure on that. But he was a terrible, terrible pick that I didn't even like back in '02 when they drafted him. And yes, the craptastic crew around him did not help matters, either.
