Joey Porter and Verron Haynes to be cut (1 Viewer)

Sad to see one of my favorite players go, but I think it had to be done.... he was decent last year, but it looked like he did lose a bit of a step, and he wanted a long-term, high money deal... which we couldn't give him. He'll always be a life-time Steeler in my book though for his ferocious leadership and the fire he displayed on our 2005 run to the SuperBowl.

Here's to Porter signing into a great situation and re-establishing himself as one of the game's best OLB's.

J Porter sure did help ease the sting of Greg Lloyd leaving years ago. I wonder who will fill his cleats now? I understand the business, but I hate that this move made good business sense.

It is getting harder each day to recognize the Steelers. I have no idea of what to expect for next season.

Does Harrison have the skills to fill the spot?He has looked good in his replacement stint for Haggens.

A lot of Steelers fans think Harrison can do it, but I have a lot of doubt. He's one of those high motor players who's great off the bench and relies off of emotion, but really doesn't have the proper skill set -physical or mental- to be a good starter. I'd like to see the team find a replacement starter in the draft.

IF he can stay healthy, I believe he can.

As a Ravens fan, I hate Joey Porter.

That being said, I thought he was a huge factor in the Super Bowl win. So much attention is always paid to his hype, that people overlooked how well he played.

But he looked really bad in 2006. I don't know if he's done, or if he just had post-Super Bowl syndrome and can bounce back.

I'm not convinced Harrison is the answer. I thought he was a guy that benefitted from getting to play in spots that suited him, but will be hard-pressed to sustain productivity as an every down player.

Maybe Joey can run his mouth about that..hey, they no longer want you. :moneybag:

Harrison filled in admirably for Porter after Joey was shot. He is a decent but I expect the Steelers to select a LB early in the draft, possibly their 1st pick.

Maybe Porter will sign with Indy for cheap, knowing that's his best opportunity at another ring :bs:

What about Haynes? I always liked the guy, seems like a blue collar type that will never be a starter, but can be a role player and help special teams. Any homers got any opinions on the guy?

I liked him as well. But it seemed he was hurt just about all the time.

Agreed. The Jets are thought to be in the A.Thomas market, so there's no reason they won't look hard at Porter if they can't get Thomas.

Of course. If the Steelers cut someone, the Jets are obliged to make an offer. If history is any guide, they'll be competing with New England and Seattle.
