Joique Bell (1 Viewer)

Very disappointing performance with Bush out. Probably droppable in many leagues. I own him in dynasty and will hold him, but he needs to redeem himself before he makes his way off the bench.
What is it that Bell could do to redeem himself? He ran hard, gained positive yards, pass protected when he was on the field. Theo Riddick is an ample sub for Bush and the coaches called his number as much if not more than Joique. Bell did everything he was asked to do.

For starters, he needs to average more than 3.2 YPC. Against the Falcons it was 2.8. He looks like an old Shonn Greene out there. The expectation was that he would also be more involved in the passing game, but that has not been the case. In PPR leagues, he is no longer startable. In standard scoring, he is completely TD dependent to be relevant in fantasy. So he's in the same group now as SJ, McFadden, or J.Stewart. Guys you hope you never have to start.

Droppable? Going into the week in my PPR league, he was a top 24 RB. I don't know anyone who would just willingly drop a RB2.

FWIW -- unfortunately I have to drop a RB this next week due to our rules only allowing us to roster 4 RBs. I have Bernard, Miller, Jennings, Ingram and Bell. I think out of those 5, Bell (especially with him being on bye) is the one I'm going to have to drop this week.

I can understand that, but that's more due to your team's situation than anything. I'd also imagine that someone will scoop him up rather quickly.

In PPR he just isn't getting much love because Bush or Riddick are the passing down guys. He's looking like a TD-dependent guy, which is sad. That said, what is his long-term outlook? Will Bush be gone, leaving Riddick as the sole 3rd down guy, and Bell as the early down hammer? To me it's starting to feel like the beginning of the end of Bell's fantasy relevance.

I guess it's not very useful stating it again now, but this backfield was always going to be a pretty useless three way split on a team that at least is very fond of throwing it, even if it isn't quite so pass happy as it was with Linehan.

Yeah, it looks like a three way RBBC. I'm just not sure what Bell's value will be going forward.

Do we know that for sure? Wasn't it a beat writer who made those comments? I haven't heard anything from within the Lions organization to support it.

Last year he had 11 games with 3+ receptions. He has 1 game to date this year, and it didn't show any signs of changing when Bush was out. Losing that work in the passing game has killed his PPR upside. I'd rather own Riddick in a PPR dynasty at this point.

Joique is still 24th in scoring for RB's in my league's system. I think he has upside beyond that the rest of the way, especially when Calvin is stretching the field again. I'd be buying if I didn't already own.

I guess I don't see the upside, especially in PPR. Minimal catches, even more so with both Bush and Riddick healthy after the bye. So he's just an early down hammer, and you hope for a TD plunge, or a gift catch or two. Idk. In dynasty, he'll be 29 before the start of next season. Just something else to throw out there.

I agree with you here. There are still pro's for owning Bell as he is at least healthy, and that is a plus among RB's at this point. That said, he's only #31 among RB's in my league's scoring system, and the timeshare between Riddick and Bush is something that makes me nervous. Then there's the concussion issue which never really goes away. And then the fact that he just hasn't been as dynamic as last season for one reason or another.

I'm curious if others are buying or selling Bell. I'm thinking of taking advantage of bye weeks for other teams and trying to sell for a RB (Shane Vereen, for example) on a bye week whose outlook is a tad brighter.

I find it amazing how the DET coaches always seem to like the "Other" guy. Bush was perceived to be the main back last year but Bell got more carries and got a nice contract. Then this year Bell gets hurt a game and everyone thinks Bush is the guy and Wynn becomes the guy. Then Bush comes back and Bell becomes the guy again. Then Bush gets hurt and everyone thinks Bell is gonna be a monster and Riddick becomes the guy. Its like the DET coaches are like fantasy owners (they always like the backup better than the starter).

Excellent post. Ha ha you're right!

10/44 and 2 catches for 37 this week

Seems like a true RBBC. Bell is getting early down carries at least. He was involved in the passing game as well.

Anyone buying or selling?

Looks like I'm going to have to roll him out this week in a standard due to the Broncos mess and byes. Don't feel great at all about him playing the Cardinals, but maybe he gets a goalline plunge?

Hes an RB3. He is the guy they use to close a game so gets a ton of carries with the lead in the 2nd half. And hes lost alof of passing down work to Riddick.

He plays the Cardinals? Jeez this guy has the toughest schedule ever

Every time I see Bell ranked high on weekly cheatsheets, I shake my head in amazement. Last year is gone. The promise of the Saints coach feeding the RBs is gone. It's now a three-man committee and like posted above, his receptions are mostly gone.

For week 11:

Pros: Bush out this week so the 3-headed RBBC is not an issue for at least a week. Mega back and showed last week he's a force to reckon with. Has increased YPC recently.

Cons: On road vs. tough AZ defense.

Another Con for Bell (or Pro for Riddick): Just a stupid observer's point of view here. FWIW, when Bush has been out/limited over the past few weeks, it looks to me like Theo Riddick has been given every chance to shine, at the expense of Joique Bell. :2cents:

Keeps getting ranked high. Some people just can't let go.

Maybe it took 1 of the backs being out to make Caldwell realize Bell is the best RB on The Lions. Hopefully this bodes well for Bell going forward.

Ran his heart out today against a very tough run D. Props to him. No idea why they didn't use him in a 3rd & 1 play at one point though

Joique has looked great the last few weeks. He should be getting 70% of the touches. He's just a really good RB that gets the most out of every touch. He does not have great speed, he isn't shifty, but he runs as hard as anyone.

Uh oh.

Joique Bell (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.
Bell wasn't listed on the Lions' post-game injury report, but was held out on Wednesday. It's not clear if his Week 12 status is in jeopardy. Bell will be updated again no later than Thursday.

Rotoworld:

Joique Bell rushed 23 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions' Week 13 win over the Bears, adding two catches for an additional 16 yards.

The rushing yards were Bell's most of the season, while the two-TD effort was his first of 2014. Bell continued to look slippery, getting around the edge and fitting through tight spaces for extra yards. His play has come on at the right time for Detroit. Bell will remain the RB2 conversation for the fantasy playoffs, as the Lions have an unusually soft schedule.

I wasted him on the bench for Ingram and Forte. I gave strong thought to putting him in with the news that Bush was out but unfortunately didn't think he'd have this fine a game.

I'm sure you all don't want my personal account but the main point of that is Bush was out yet again and that the backfield pretty much belongs to Bell. Time to start trusting him more.

When I heard Bush was out, I really wanted to play Bell over Denard, but I bought too much into the fantasy points against stats. I should have gone with my gut.

Don't fall into that short term results oriented thinking. With those two RBs, benching Bell was the right call. Even with Bush out, Riddick had been getting many of those carries.

he's a good option, not a great option. The Bears have quit. Although he does get another game against them

Riddick hasn't been getting any carries all year.

Riddick was getting some targets/catches but never more than 1-2 carries in a game.

Joique has been locked in at 15-20 touches virtually every week.

So whats the deal with Reggie anyway? Is it HAS? I cant find anything other than "ankle injury". I wonder if he would have played if the game was Sun? DET has a pretty easy schedule going forward. Bell could continue to put up RB1 numbers going forward if Bush remains out.

Dropped him last week because I just didn't see him cracking my lineup if I make the playoffs. My opponent this week picked him up and sat him on his bench.

Even with this good game, I'm not sure I'd find a week to start him on many squads only having to start 2 RBs.

I've been wrong before. He looked great running the ball against AZ, not so much against NE, Andy even better yesterday.
