JoJo's Silver Mine (1 Viewer)

fyi...

Because the 2011 25TH SILVER EAGLE ANNIVERSARY SET is in such high demand, requirements have been put in place for 2011 25TH SILVER EAGLE ANNIVERSARY SET sales. It has been reported that the MINT sold out of these within 5 hours. We understand that some sellers on eBay could have potentially placed their order in time, however we request that these coins are not listed unless they are in the physical possession of the seller. We also suggest the following:- The listing needs to include a unique photo of the item or items, and your User ID needs to be clearly shown in the picture (watermarks will not be accepted).- To ensure buyer protection, PayPal needs to be the only accepted form of payment. We understand that you may not have known about these requirements. However, please note that future violations may result in a range of actions, including listing cancellation, limits on account privileges, account suspension, forfeiture of eBay fees on canceled listings, and loss of PowerSeller status.Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Sincerely,eBay Trust & Safety team

What's interesting about this message above is that the value is in the unopened packages from the mint, most people have advertised they would not open the box received, but instead, would place this unopened box into a new box for shipping.

So it is impossible for anyone to create a listing now on ebay without having to devalue the product.

:lmao:

ETA: I supposed there is a chance that inside of the shipped box, there is a sealed box from the mint.

I got that same message. I disregarded it and followed e-bay's standard "Presale" policy. Essentially, I referenced the standard policy in my listing, AND noted in a reply to e-bay that there were other listings going on and closing every minute. In my past experience, I've found e-bay makes policies for the sake of making them, and enforces them when and where they want. In general, I HATE E-bay and Pay-Pal and have been screwed by their half-assed policies in the past...but they're the only place with a market this active for stuff. My listing doesn't say that I'll send a sealed box, so it is what it is. I'm willing to take a bump down in price if need be. I'm quite happy with the return that's being offered right now as basically, I bought 5, can sell 3 and cover my cost, keeping 2. One for me and one for my Dad.

If you get paid for any of those auctions paypal is going to lock those funds until the buyers confirm receipt of the coins. It took my almost 3 months to get all of my money from paypal after the XBOX 360 release. It was a little over 15k that was tied up and I had an ebay rating of about 200 at the time.

This seems like a lot of time and energy for just a few hundred dollars profit. Good luck to all involved though - keep the thread updated, it'll be interesting to see what your total profits are.

Fixed...I get your point totally, but at current prices, if I sold all 5 of my sets, I'd make ~$1,000. It's all about threshold I guess. To me, there wasn't a lot of risk in this as worst case I just keep all 5 sets. Also, re. Paypal locking...as long as I get my money eventually, I don't really mind. If it gets too bad, I'll just wait till I get them and go to the local coin shop or something...Or as I mentioned, just return them to the mint and call it a wash. But I don't think that'll happen.

There's a coin show near me a week or so after I expect to receive my 5-set. I am thinking of taking it with me for a possible trade.

If I can get 2 ounces of gold that would be $$$.

more free money, still in stock:

http://www.mint.ca/store/product/product_exchange2011.jsp?itemId=prod1150003

This is from the Canadian mint, $20 legal tender coin backed by silver that will only cost you $20. It is currently selling for about 50% markup on Ebay (which is pretty silly considering it is still in stock from the Canadian mint).

Use the code "mint1" for free shipping.

it was 95% sold out when I placed my order, now it is 98% sold out!

I'm not saying you're wrong, or that this won't be worth money. But all I see on ebay are a bunch of coins LISTED for huge markup. No one appears to actually be bidding on them.

look at completed listingsI'm seeing about half of the completed listings being successful sales ranging from a low of $25 to a high of $38, a mean price of about $29-30 - not a ton of profit, but profit nonetheless.

The 25th Anniversary of the US Mint's Silver American Eagle coin set was released at noon today.Traffic is overloaded right now, but I managed to secure a 5 set purchase (max per household). Do a search on Ebay for these sets, they are going as high as $2100 for a 5 set purchase ($1499.75).http://www.usmint.gov/The 2006 Anniversary set (20th) sold very well and had 2x the allotment, only 100k sets available through the US Mint today. Local Coin Shops will pay a premium for your orders as well if you would rather not go through EBay.Good luck!
Just sold my first one on ebay for $675.00 (it was a 1 day sale, started at .99, got 28 bids)After ebay fees, paypal fees and free shipping, I get $589.07 out of it. Have one more on there now with about 2 days left.

As one of the resident FFA gold/silver bugs can I get a PM next time one of these pop us?

TIA - I'll throw somethign in for the trouble.

sure thing, I'm keeping my eye outHave you ever bought anything from the Perth Mint in Australia? Tried placing an order the other day but their website does not seem to like American addresses and I didn't have an international calling plan setup to deal with being on the phone for an hour.

I stole a 1 Kilo Silver Kook from a coin shop one time (got it basicaly at melt back when silver was $19 an oz) - but never anything from Perth Directly. They make great stuff though, but I'm more apt to buy eagles/maples and not pay the premium for kooks/pandas.

The Lunar Dragons stuff are going for a decent premium on ebay, something to consider.

Just updating on this...E-bay stopped policing listings, and I managed to list 3 of my sets. Sold all 3 for ~$615 each. So basically, after fees and such, I've paid for my 5 sets and still have 2 left to do whatever I want with. I think I may just keep them honestly. Count me in on the PM's if any of you find any other deals like this in the future.

Nice!I am going to hold I think, kinda torn what to do with my 5 sets. The 2006 sets didn't peak in price until 10 months after sale. I think there's a (small) chance a set could go for $1k each.

My gut says they will peak between Thanksgiving & Christmas ~$1000, then go down to ~$600/set. I figure it's got double the "draw" of the 20th anniversary set (2 extra coins, 1 extra unique, half the mintage), so it will settle out in that neighborhood. That's the floor, IMO. Who knows what happens once sets finally start shipping.

I actually get/got $621.07 after fees & shipping. The second one I had on was taken off by ebay late last night with about 23 hours to go on a 3 day sale. And I had everything right(I thought) including a copy of my U.S. Mint confirmation email.

Good golly, they are incompetent.

As someone who doesn't pay any attention to these special quarters and whatnot, how often do these types of free money situations happen? Was this a "once every ten years" kind of release, or are these things profitable on a regular basis?

The first delivered 5-set popped up on Ebay today, with a BIN of $5250, apparently already has 4 offers made against it (not sure how you are able to tell).

Gees. Mine now says expected to ship on 11/22/2011.It went from the 11th to the 14th to the 22nd for some reason. Hmmm
Is this the first time you have ordered from the USMint? I read online you may get something in the mail to verify your address first. Instead of mailing it in, you can call them to verify your address.
No, but it is the first time in about 4 years. I've probably had 100 orders and 100's of things from them since the 90's.

The expected ship date is known to shift 1 day every day until they start shipping. You can login each day to see if your status changes. Mine is shown as shipped.

I know it's unrelated, but I got a 1/4 oz platinum eagle last night on ebay for $365!
I don't know too much about Platinum, ever since Gold overtook it in price I have been leery about it.ETA that is a great price tho - below spot!
Every X amount of gold I aquire I like to mix in a little bit of Platinum. It's mostly used in cars so it is more of an industrial metal, but it is more rare then Gold so to me the fact that you can get it for less then gold makes me want to mix in a little bit more.Either way - below spot so I'm thrilled.

pretty cool looking coinit's slight longer and thicker than a US quarter, it only has .28 ounces of silver (weighs 7.96 grams) so just under $10 worth of silver. The beauty of it is having the $20 legal tender value. Normally when you buy bullion coins their monetary value is much less than their melt value. An ASE is 1 ounce of silver (melt value = $36.603) but the legal tender value is only $1. Think of it as a precursor to going on a silver standard hybrid.

I also received my 5 sets of 25th anniversary ASE's. The box weighs 15 lbs which is crazy because the coins themselves only weigh 25 ounces (~1.6 lbs).

It's been a good ebay week for me. just picked up a 8 oz silver eagle for $260. Thats $32.50 an oz for you scoring at home.

Home Shopping Network got a hold of 300 sets, they were selling them last night at these prices:

HSN price for anacs 69 - $1,499.95/set

HSN price for anacx 70 - $2,999.95/set

(original cost per set $299)

Just got my shipment.

Already sold 2 @ $600 a set a while back...sold the 3rd, but they guy didn't pay. I'm praying he doesn't b/c I can relist and easily pick up another $100-$200. That'll put me at $1900 with 2 sets still in-hand. I've considered keeping both, but honestly, if I can get $700-$800, it's tough to turn down a $1,000 profit while still having a set for my Dad.

Got an email at 4:46 am Monday- Expected to ship 11/28/11

Today they took the money out of my bank account (used debit card)

Unopened 5 sets selling for $4250 on eBay (completed)Not bad, going to either try a straight up trade for close to 3 oz of gold at a coin show coming up or hold out when prices get to $5k on eBay

Mine were shipped today(25th Anniversary set).Last week I tried talking the person who I sold 1 to on ebay into taking a refund because the ship date was 11/25 at the time. Of course they said No. Oh well. Still got 3 more to make more $$$ on. May keep one.

Looks like sending them in for PCGS grading is pretty profitable.

Current averages non-graded:

single set open box - $793.00

5 set unopen box -- $4,215.75 or $843.15 a set.

single set unopen box -- $907.00

reverse proof ---------- $400.00

s mint mark unc ------- $345.00

3 pc ------------------ $192.50

===================================

5 coin sold separately -- $937.50

ngc 69 $1306.43

ngc 70 $2956.35

pcgs 70 (mix-n-match) set average: $3736.25 (1150% profit over $299 cost)

Having trouble finding PCGS 69 completed listings

Yeah, if you want to squeeze all the profit out, having them graded yourself is the way to go.

I just don't have the time to do it, so I'm happy with my deal thus far. Sold 2 for $600 and 1 for $750. The 1 I sold for $750 originally sold to a guy for $610 a few weeks ago, but he went AWOL, so I relisted. Never been so happy for someone to not pay. Now I'm up to ~$450 profit and I've still go 2 sets. 1 will be for my Dad for x-mas, but I'm not sure what to do with the other one...hold it...sell it....hold it...sell it...

took the plunge and sent my first order into PCGS for grading, this is what it cost to grade 5 sets:

$49 for silver membership (lasts 1 year) to PCGS

$350 = 25 x $14 (Modern)

$450 = 25 x $18 (FS - costs a lot, but research says it is worth it)

$30 = 1 x $30 (return boxes)

$8 (handling)

$29.95 (return postage + insurance)

======

$916.95

+$101.00 shipping + $5k insurance (cost $54.10 just for insurance)

======

$1017.95 (gulp)

Got my grades back, not too bad I suppose:

70-69-69-69DC-70

69-69-70-69DC-69

70-69-69-69DC-70

70-69-69-70DC-70

70-70-70-68DC-70

The two key coins (only purchasable as part of this set, 100k total mintage) are the 2nd (2011-S) and 5th (2011-P Reverse PR) coins. I only got one 70 for the 2011-S (PCGS population at 23%) but I got four 70's for the 2011-P Reverse Proof coin which was running 31% on the PCGS population report.
