Jonathan Stewart - what's the deal? (1 Viewer)

Every mock draft I see Jonathan Stewart seems to go later and later. Is he injured? Are people convinced DeAngelo Williams is going to dominate the carries? I know Williams got a huge contract, but I'm not sure why he's going in the 4th-5th while Stewart is going several rounds later.

Hmmm well, he is the 2nd string running back, and the panthers should ride D-Will for most of the carries. He'd be hard to start unless Williams gets hurt.

The excitement has certainly worn off. Maybe he's being overlooked, but it appears to be more of a market correction than anything.

On ESPN, even after falling 11 spots over the past week (to RB24), he's still going ahead of alot RBs that should lead their teams in carries.

For Stewart to be useful at all, one of 2 things must happen:

-CAR must be one of the best running teams in the league, in both yards and TDs

-Deangelo injury

.

For Stewart to even live up to his current ADP, one of those must happen and he has to stay healthy.

Even after slipping, he's a back-up on a bad team still being drafted like a decent starter.

I posted in the CAR RBs Player Spotlight that Stewart averages 8.94 fantasy ppg when he and Williams have played in 36 career games. Over a 16 game season, that works out to 148 fantasy points on a season (which last year would have raned as RB22.

Maybe a new coach will change how the backs are used. Maybe Newton will take carries from Stewart. But Stewart here to for has been able to put up decent numbers when they both have played. He's also averaged 12.37 fantasy ppg when Williams is not in the line up (11 games), which last year was on par with RB 14 on the season.
