My friend and I were talking about Cribbs and how he should be a bigger part of the offense. He then invoked the name of one Devin Hester, who also was an awesome returner that has been turned into a mediocre offensive weapon and a non-factor on special teams. Could this happen to Cribbs? Cribbs is more talented than Hester and has already been used on offense, but is a career path similar to Hester's possible?

I see him having wr5 value ay best, unless you are in a return yardage league. Stay away from Cleveland wr's. It will take 2-3 before that team even has a chance to have a good passing offence.

What value do you see him having in a return yardage league?

In my 3 dynasty leagues that all allow points for punt and kick returns and are ppr leagues, Cribbs was #30 twice and #34. I am not sure where that puts him in the grand scheme of things but I would say at least a WR3 and it could be better this year unless Delhomme plays like he did last year.

for those leagues that allow returns and tackles for offensive players he gets a boost. cribbs is a sure tackler(KO coverage maven) and with delhomme throwing to the wrong colored jersey.........

Obviously there's a ceiling on Cribbs, but I still think people are going to underestimate how much he'll be used this year and how effective he can be with the ball in his hands.

Cribbs is a better runner than receiver. He's an average route-runner with average hands IMO. However, put him in the wildcat, and he's very effective.

Hester's falloff as a returner coincided with his switch to offense, but that doesn't mean it was caused by his switch to offense. Historically, elite returners have RIDICULOUSLY short peaks and a history of falling off the cliff without any warning. Witness Dante Hall, Terrence McGee, or Jerome Mathis for recent examples. I think part of it is the nature of the position- any position that is reliant on 40 plays a season is going to be naturally prone to outlier seasons.Of course, this doesn't really put Cribbs owners at ease, any. Even if he doesn't get a larger piece of the offensive pie, he still might morph from an all-pro returner into a good-but-nondescript returner (think Wes Welker), or even worse.
