Whitner revealed he once ran into suspended wide receiver Josh Gordon and observed the former All Pro had ballooned to about 30 pounds more than his playing weight. But Whitner has recently watched Gordon whip himself back into shape.

Gordon, 24, has applied for reinstatement into the NFL and is awaiting a decision from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“I do know Josh. I understand he’s a young guy,” Whitner said. “He’s made a few mistakes in his career, and when you hit rock bottom the way he did, there’s nowhere else to go but up. Over the last couple months, just watching him, watching Instagram and the hard work that he put in, the transformation that he made with his body. I remember seeing him at the [Metropolitan at the] 9 downtown and him being like 255 pounds, and then going on down to four or five or sixth months later, shedding 20, 25, 30 pounds and looking like he did before the suspension started.

Whitner clearly has zero credibility on this matter.  He must have made it all up for reasons that are unclear at the moment.

Well, he could be exaggerating (not purposely to deceive, just not being very good at estimating weight).

He's beenposting pics steadily throughout this, and he NEVER looked an ounce different

Yeah.  Gordon has been regularly posting workout pics and videos since last season and has looked great.  Guy has been a workout warrior since the suspension.  Seems implausible the he would have gotten to 255 but bear in mind that Gordon is 6'4" and is listed at 220 lbs Whitner could just have made a simple mistake because Gordon is already a pretty big dude.

He has been putting himself out there for public scrutiny and has really appears to be doing and saying all the right things.  If you check out his Instagram, Twitter etc. stuff it is pretty obvious that he has committed himself to not only making football his career but doing everything he can to be one of the very best in the game.

He could always #### it up but right now I view him as a solid buy regardless of his QB situation.

I really, really wish it didn't matter.. but in Goodell's NFL it is not smart to even go to church with Manziel, let alone while you are tying to get reinstated from being banned.   I'd bet he didn't have a sip of alcohol or toke of weed, yet he will still get dinged for this.

I don't know if he will "get dinged," but wouldn't be surprised if the NFL schedules a test for today/tomorrow.

Don't suspended guys have to be available for tests within a certain window of notification?

Assuming this is true & he passes any such test, that should be an indication of his "clean living. . Too bad we would never know if such test occurred, unless he failed.

I get that you are a Gordon superfan. Maybe THE Gordon superfan.  That said this is not just merely taking a pic with a Browns player and even you must appreciate that. What do you imagine ownership and Roger Goodell are thinking about this right now?

 
Wow. A seriously stupid move at this point in the game. Why give the league ANYTHING to use against you at this point? Hate to say it, but this points to the fact Gordon STILL doesn't get it.

 
Don't really see how taking a pic at a fight in Vegas with JFF is any kind of problem.  They ARE teammates,  and probably friends.  Is he supposed to not talk to him?  

By the way,  a whole lot of people at that fight.  Guessing JFF took pics with a lot of people .

 
Kicked off of two different college teams and suspended by the NFL 3 times for substance-related issues and still folks race to make excuses for him.

Hint - when you have had those kind of problems you are supposed to avoid hanging out with people that are likely to drag you back in.

Exactly. Wait until you are reinstated to do anything including but not limited to hanging out with Manziel in Vegas.... VEGAS.

I get it man... It's pretty ridiculous he essentially has to be on house arrest, but no matter how I or you feel about it, it's the NFL and Roger's opinion that matter.  

 
I dumped Gordon in all my leagues. I just don't think he can stay out of trouble. He's worth alot so I am taking it now rather than getting nothing later.

Can we please quit pretending like Manziel is "just a teammate"? Seriously, stop. He's facing assault charges, has serious addiction problems, has threatened to take his own life, and isn't long for the team.

dress it however you like, he is a Cleveland Browns player. and you dont get your effing reinstatement revoked by taking a photo w a damn teammate.

like I said... Von Miller said the SAME thing, and even said Manziel is doing well..  Ever stop to think he's maybe trying to get his life on track? I hate johnny, but what the hell? Is he the plague for some reason?  dont u think guys showing him support might be a good thing?

 
I truly wish people would hold themselves to the same standard that they seem to hold complete strangers.

In that world, at the very least, I have to believe Trump wouldn't be the Republican front-runner.

 
Huge red flag here. You're trying to get reinstated and show that your bad decisions are in the past, and you decide to go to Vegas and hang with a guy who's out snorting coke and smoking weed every night.   You can't fix stupid and Gordon definitely has a problem thinking things through.
