Nope For the love of god noAJG is better. By a lot. /threadfor the love of god /thread
Actually, I just looked back through this thread. That kind shortsightedness came from a handful of posters backing Green.Love the week by week analysis of this thread. If AJ has a better week he is the better player, if Julio....Both have potential to be very good.
These two are both remarkable and we will all enjoy watching them for years to come. I was a big fan of Julio Jones, but these two are both special. When you combine their skills(and other young WRs to come) with the direction that the league is heading AND the addition of flex positions, the value increases of WRs over RBs continues.I saw enough this year to say both ARE very good.
Since this post, AJ Green played in 8 games. He went 32/541/2.A few fun facts about the latest "transcendent talent." AJ Green's first 7 games as a pro: 33/516/5.Nobody is knocking him. Far from it. AJG is a transcendent talent, though. Julio just isn't in his class. Excellent receiver though. I like him a lot. It's funny how people are quick to knock a guy when injured because that's the only thing that has held him back. And I own both players, Julio Jones is a monster and on par with AJ when playing. It's nice owning both in dynasty but frustrating waiting on JJ with this hammy.
TB Mike Williams first 7 games as a pro. 32/470/4.
The Bengals have played 5 of their 7 games vs teams in the bottom 1/3 vs the pass. Cleveland is rated #2 vs the pass, and shut out Green with the exception of one play where they were still in the huddle. Green scored a 41 yard TD on that play. Green had a nice day, 5/90/1 vs Jacksonville's 6th rated pass D.
Looking ahead, the Bengals play Tennessee's 15th ranked pass d next week, then they get the gauntlet of Pitt, Balt, Clev, Pitt, Hou. All those teams sport top 10 defenses vs the pass.
As I've stated many times in this thread, I think AJ Green is looking like he's going to be a good player. I think its very premature to say he's a "transcendent talent" or even that he's better than Julio Jones.
One of my favorite football quotes is from Jim Mora. "You think you know, but you just don't know." I think that applies to everyone here.
Since this post, AJ Green played in 8 games. He went 32/541/2. Julio Jones played in 7 games. He went 29/601/8. (That includes his first game back from the hammy, where he didn't make a catch.)
...and I'm sure Green's separated shoulder had NOTHING to do with his low production the last few weeks. Agreed. It would be ridiculous to proclaim Julio better because of the last half of a season. Just as it was ridiculous for you and others to proclaim "Julio just isn't in his class" after they both played a handful of games....and I'm sure Green's separated shoulder had nothing to do with his low production the last few weeks.Since this post, AJ Green played in 8 games. He went 32/541/2. Julio Jones played in 7 games. He went 29/601/8. (That includes his first game back from the hammy, where he didn't make a catch.)![]()
Gotta love that quote. Where is that from?i'm liking what Gruden is saying...1. Jay Gruden is going to let it fly. In his first year as the offensive coordinator, Gruden guided the young and inexperienced offense to surprising success given the lack of offseason programs. But now, with the benefit of OTAs and a full training camp, the fiery assistant is ready to really put his stamp on the unit. Gruden is expanding the playbook of his West Coast-style passing game -- look for the running backs to get more involved, and expect more shots downfield. One of the first things Gruden did with Dalton this offseason was to sit down and break down tape of the quarterback's numerous misfires on long passes. Gruden wants Dalton, who's been working hard on his footwork, to be more aggressive throwing the ball downfield. "I'm not saying we want to throw Hail Marys every play, but we're going to take more shots," said Gruden. "We got to give A.J. (Green) a chance to make a play -- too many times last year we left the ball two or three yards too far and out of bounds. Andy's trying to place the perfect pass too often, instead of just letting it fly. He's understanding that even if it's underthrown a little bit but kept in play, it won't be an interception -- A.J.'s going to get it."
from the training camp thread...it's on the last page (page 8 I think) and I think it's called Postcard from camp or something like that. You have to love the supreme confidence everyone has in Green where the OC is telling the QB to just throw a jump ball and they are sure he's going to come down with it. Green will be their offense this year...everyone else on their offense is pedestrian at best.Gotta love that quote. Where is that from?i'm liking what Gruden is saying...1. I had the 1 and 3 last year. Guy with the two gave me the two plus a bunch of picks to move up to 1. He took Ingram, I took both Jones and Green. Pretty giddy with that move!I drafted Ingram over both these guys. Last time I go with the conventional wisdom.
Jones no doubt! better situation, better measurables.Interesting thread as both head into their sophomore season. Julio's situation didn't turn out roses, exactly. But he was far from disappointing. AJ Green showed just how good he is by instantly becoming the cornerstone many predicted. I think he elevated Dalton and will continue to do so. So who scores more points this season?
Funny, I got lambasted a bit last year when I pointed out how bad I thought Dalton was on deep passes and how Green could have put up far better numbers.i'm liking what Gruden is saying...1. AJ would have 37 td's this year if he had Matt Ryan to throw him the ball. Dalton is turrribul.AJG could have had 2 more tds. He was stopped a the 1 twice.
AJ might be the best WR in football already. Man among boys on the field. Snatches everything.AJ through 4 games: 27 receptions, 428 yards, 3 TD's. Guy is just tremendous.
Did Julio play today??Julio Jones is my pick.![]()
Yeah. I think Calvin vs AJG is more interesting a debate than AJG vs Julio.AJ might be the best WR in football already. Man among boys on the field. Snatches everything.AJ through 4 games: 27 receptions, 428 yards, 3 TD's. Guy is just tremendous.
Good point. I'll start: AJ doesn't drop passes.Yeah. I think Calvin vs AJG is more interesting a debate than AJG vs Julio.AJ might be the best WR in football already. Man among boys on the field. Snatches everything.AJ through 4 games: 27 receptions, 428 yards, 3 TD's. Guy is just tremendous.
AJ is already one of the 3 best WRs in football. He was last year too. He's just that good. He's a blend of R. Moss and L. Fitz rolled into one. The way he abused Mathis today was a marvel to watch. He does it every week no matter who the CB is though. The amazing thing is that some of these throws you can tell it's basically Dalton going "AJ go get it" - there were too fabulous plays right at the sideline and AJ just outmuscled/outjumped the defender. Dalton put it there knowing AJ would win the battle. It's only gonna get better and better with this kid-QG

I have Both and Calvin sure stunk it up today. As did Pettigrew yuck...It's was pointed out all off-season long that Green was poised to improve. I'm not sure why people didn't listen to the blatent evidence before them. The guy was the best WR to come out of college in years, has tremendous work ethic, great character and is a leader on his team.good post, but AJ was a top 5 pick and Williams was a mid round pick for a reason, so that's really a bad comparison. By all accounts, AJ has strong character and is humble; meanwhile Williams is Williams. Often, FF players try to look at numbers to see why a player regressed - the real reason is usually behind the scenes.
I think people just draft guys and defend them regardless of evidence to the contrary - it's why I don't follow politics. Cosell even said that Green "was on another talent" as he compared the two. It's was pointed out all off-season long that Green was poised to improve. I sure hope so. My trade of Britt, Brandon Lloyd and Vincent Jackson for AJ this offseason is looking better and better.Essentially Green is on an island with little in terms of support, everyone knows he's clearly their best player and they still can't stop it. He is the 2nd best wr and is closing on Calvin.
I think the pundits were right. Julio is an insane athlete and a good wide receiver. AJ is an insane wide receiver and an excellent athlete. The latter is usually the better bet. Kind of like the difference between Terrell Owens and Randy Moss. And next week Jones will be the better of the two....Both are great. Jones has proven All-Pro producers to contend with and don't think for a minute that defenses are ignoring him. He is opening up more opportunities for White and the ageless wonder (Gonzo). He will have big games and is still an elite prospect, however there will be games like yesterday that will frustrate owners.
This has been debated heavily amongst the members in my league and I've always come to this conclusion:
AJ: Randy Moss body type, fast, great hands, athletic, a QB that will just throw it up to him and let him make plays, and is the undoubted #1 target on his team.
Julio: Terrell Owens body type, fast, good hands, athletic, a good QB that is still learning him, but he's #2 or #3 target behind Roddy and some games Gonzo.
Both guys are downright STUDS, almost like debating a Bentley and an Aston Martin. It's fun to see two young dudes with as bright of a future as they have.

Ha! Warrior avatar. Just had flashbacks. thanksStill like them both. Jones will still finish with 1100 - 10 imo but he will do it hot streaks.
