Jurassic Park 4 - Jurassic World (1 Viewer)

What's funny about this thread is all the references to how high-brow the original was.

Read this JP review by Ebert, and it basically reads like half the posts here about JW.

The plot to steal the embryos is handled on the level of a TV sitcom. The Knight character, an overwritten and overplayed blubbering fool, drives his Jeep madly through the storm and thrashes about in the forest. If this subplot had been handled cleverly - with skill and subtlety, as in a caper movie - it might have added to the film's effect. Instead, it's as if one of the Three Stooges wandered into the story.
Newman was a pretty lousy casting choice. I'm sure they tried to find an even fatter, sleazier guy to play the role but he was the best they could get.

And how exactly did those two idiot kids fix a 20 year old rusty jeep in about 5 minutes time? Anybody mention this?
I could change a battery and add some gas at 16? If the gas wasn't bad, it'd probably get the car running (albeit not well). What got me was the fight scene WITH THE F'N RAPTOR RIDING ON A TREX.

Don't forget the lady running in high heels leading the T-Rex out of his cage into the fight. HIGH HEELS!

Screw it. I'll leave this here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXGCyjJh48I

That was one of the eye rolling moments for me. They find the Jeep and one of the kids says "Hey, remember that time we rebuilt a car a couple of summers ago?" How convenient that these two brothers who can't stand each other and are nothing alike each other spent a summer learning a skill together that is going to save their life here.

Prettys sure that plot like was written by a Jeep exec to get the product placement.

Forget that she was running in heels leading a T-Rex, she was running through the jungle with them on!!

My son borrowed the box set of the first three movies from a friend a week ago in preparation for going to the new one with me. I have had a good laugh at his expense at the notion he needed to see the first three in order to fully enjoy the 4th. I've seen all three in the past week and can say they are virtually identical overall. All have good action scenes and good effects, which obviously got better as the tech developed. All three have ridiculous plot holes, terrible dialogue, bad acting and are filled with completely inexplicable decisions being made over and over by the main characters. The stories are all essentially nonsensical delivery vehicles for the action scenes. We've enjoyed them all very much.

Opinions are like #######s.

It just goes to show movie critics know about as much about movies as a doctor knows about home construction.

Nothing.

Jurassic Park is widely regarded as a classic monster movie. Again what do people expect when they go to a horror/sci-fi/monster movie? Yes there are exceptions to the rule in the genere where it exceeds expectations and delievers on every front (acting, plot, character development, effects) but most of the time if you can 2 of those elements your happy. You're entertained. The original and IMO JPIII gave us 2 of those elements to my satisfaction (acting, effects)

JW had great action and effects......acting was blech, plot was blech. But it was a fun movie. It was like going to a theme park without the lines.

With not a lot of thought -- and a nod to the way things REALLY are at theme parks -- they could've made the "get away in a Jeep" thing work.

Jurassic World had already established that there were some bored stoner types working there. Theme park workers typically find a semi-secluded place on-site to goof off and let off steam (often after-hours -- Google "Little Lake Bryan" for Disney World's version). Since the Jurassic World management apparently never saw fit to demolish the original Jurassic Park control building but instead kept it around as a huge junk shed ... that old building would make the perfect "smoke break" spot for the park's slacker unit.

And that's how the boys escape. Not by miraculously firing up a 20-year-old Jeep, but by happening on a bunch of JW staff in the old building getting baked on the clock (implied herb to keep it kid-friendly, if need be). The tokers, you see, regularly take an old P.O.S. JW Jeep back and forth -- maybe the JW decal peeled off and it shows the old Jurassic Park logo for another tie-in. That would even give the kids an even better chance to be heroic, as they'd have to save (or not) the slackers. Older kid would be the only one fit to drive the hoopdie Jeep back to the pavilion.

It all made complete sense up until the lady was running in high heels. That's when I felt the movie was just a little too unbelievable.

This was one of the worst movies I've watched in a long time. It wasn't fun. It was stupid.
:goodposting: I'm one of the biggest fans of action movies.. enjoyed San Andreas in the theater( but no need to see it again) and other "Action" films that some hate..

But this one .. Complete waste of time.. But since it made a boatload of :moneybag: there will be more. :X

Just caught this a few days ago.

It's been 3 days and I'm still pissed about the chick sprinting through the amazon in 6" stilettos.

Terrible cheeseball 80's like writing/acting but good effects and dinosaurs.

Did you think the fourth was virtually identical too?

Finally saw this movie on HBO and it is so bad it is funny at times but at least the movie knows it and doesn't take it self serious.  My favorite part was when that guy decided to stay behind and tried to kiss the girl and she was like oh I have a boyfriend.

streamed it last night (first viewing).

Oof. 4/10.    CGI and dinosaur fights were pretty solid.  dialogue, plot holes, and insults to suspension of disbelief made it bad.

I can't believe I fell for the velociraptor loyalty triple cross!

Sure, you laughed at times.  That was a lot of the fun for me.  The way they killed off that assistant was ludicrous and awesome at the same time.

Wife and I watched it while on a vacation to Monterey last summer in this old, classic style theater in downtown Salinas.  It was perfect for the night and atmosphere.  Loved it.

That has to be schtick.  No way you can love this movie.  Guilty pleasure and mindless couple of hours yes but this movie was awful.

Mindless fun. We watched it already 3 more times on HBO and make funny references throughout the flick.

The Raptor Whisperer!!!!

Finally got around to watching this with the Mrs tonight.

What at a steaming pile.

We basically just surfed on our iPads the whole time once we realized how horrible and eye-roll-inducing every single scene was, but felt the need to "watch" the whole thing since we have strong ties to the VFX work.

But it is a total and utter piece of crap. The top notch dinosaur FX don't come close to making this even a little enjoyable.

Watching with the wife now. Who wrote this plot? It's like 80's horror movie type writing... Outside of the graphics and dinosaurs, possibly the worst movie I've seen in a while.
