Just met Chad Johnson (Autograph session) (1 Viewer)

I think they had a specific gameplan to get Chad involved early and often, but the whole plan changed when Palmer got hurt. Im sure they worked on specific plays during the week that Kitna didnt work on. You cant expect a backup to come in in the biggest game for the franchise in 15 years and have him deliver the way Palmer would have. What did Rudi end up with, like 14 carries or something? I guarantee he would have got more carries if Palmer was in there, which would have loosened up the defense a bit. Im not saying Cincy would have won, but it would have/could have been a whole different ballgame. Im pretty sure Palmer would have audibled a few times to get the ball to Chad here and there, which is something Kitna doesnt do.Bottom line is we will never know what would have happened had Palmer not got hurt. Chad is frustrated and understandably so. He shouldnt have scheduled a session on that day, though.

Pretty dumb day to schedule an autograph session - win or lose, I'd have other places I'd rather be after a playoff game. This seems like something that would have been better scheduled in mid-Feb. or later.
This was probably scheduled weeks or even months ago.

Week 13 2005 5 catches for 54 yards 0 TD Result: Win

Week 7 2005 4 catches for 94 yards 0 TD Result: Loss
Yep, and in week 7, he had 37 yards on 3 catches with 2 minutes left in the game when he caught a 47 yard pass down the sideline with the score 27-6 and the Steelers just waiting to get the ball back and kneel it out.Chad was a non-factor in all 3 games this year - the Steelers shut him down time and again. As much as I find him entertaining and funny, I still always like to see a player who never shuts up forcibly quieted.
Amen. One thing that has annoyed me is that every Bengals fan on this board believes the game was theirs if Palmer had been in. I say 50/50 chance at best. Steelers were the team to slap the Bengals high-powered offense down to earth in week 6. And, the steelers had been a scoring machine themselves over the last third of the season. Add to that the better defense resides with the Steelers and I think you've got a nice Steelers win WITH Palmer in there. Vegas saw the same thing...
Bengal fans--You guys need to realize that even if CP hadn't gotten hurt, you may have lost the game anyway. The Steelers have the team make up (strong D and solid running game) that matches up well with Cincy.Steeler fans--You guys need to realize that you can't remove the QB who threw the most TD passes in the league this year on a prolific offense and expect that you still would have won. Strong passing offenses (Indy, New England) have exposed your D before.

The bottom line is we will never know what would have happened had Palmer not gotten hurt. Arguing either way is pointless and can have no factual support.

:goodposting: Also, to those who think the rates obtained by players for autographs is shameful - I agree!!!!

However, if we (the fans) were more sensible about the value of these objects (autographed cards, helmets, etc.) , their $ would be much less.

Incidentally, I've stood outside minor league baseball stadiums with the kids looking for an autograph or two. And there are clearly those trying to cash in from the autographs. I would hate that as a professional athlete.

What a waste of 50 bucks.
You don't think a signed jersey is worth $50 more than an unsigned one?
I guess that was Johnson's thinking also being he didn't say more than two words to anybody. Didn't sound like this slinger was doing it to make a buck, he was doing it so his kid could meet him and possibly get a "hi" out of him.

Couldn't agree more. My response was intended as hyperbole in the opposite direction of what seems to be the common Bengal fan position - that it is a foregone conclusion that the Palmer-led Bengals would have beaten the Steelers. I think alot of folks look at that first long bomb to Henry in particular and assume that the Bengals were going to roll. Understandable, but one play does not make a game and what I point out is that there were an equal number of factors to favor a Steeler victory as a Bengals one. Now the point, as they say, is moot.

Except in this case, one play did make the game.

I agree with you that the Bengals (and we fans) are very fortunate to have CJ. He's not only very talented but as you points out, he cares too.
Geez. He should just get over it. I'm sure it was difficult to lose. But c'mon. You're out there for your FANS and they don't even get a smile and a hello? He should stop pouting and start acting like a man. If he was stupid enough to agree to a PAID autograph session the day after a game, he should be good enough to suckitup for his young fans.Maybe if you gave him some headphones and played him that Bengals rap song he might cheer up.

Well after reading about "the fight" I guess I can understand why he wasn't smiling. :boxing:

dont chastise Chad for charging $50 to sign

try getting Emmitt Smith, who charges $400 now at shows for Flats, $500 for Helmets, and an extra $100 for inscriptions

and he's not the only one

I realize Emmitt is the all time rushing leader and farther along than Chad is.

I realize that I'm a diehard Cowboy fan.

I realize its absolutely absurd to charge anyone $400 for an autograph

The reason these guys charge is because if they sign for free, everyone and their mother is gonna line up and get 10 things signed and toss em on ebay.

Personally, i wouldnt care if i was making millions, but thats easy for me to say because im not

these guys obviously do care, and thats the reason for the billion dollar memorabilia industry....
Yeah, ask the people of Pensacola what they think of Emmit. Now, Roy Jones they like.

Chad is just sad that someone finally shut him down in the biggest game of his career...
I doubt that happens if Palmer is in the game. Pitts hadn't shut him down before. He's had some success against them. Clearly losing Palmer changed this team in many ways. Clearly the big was lost when he went down. There's a reason Kitna is a back up and not a starter. He's a good back up without question. But he cannot make the throws Palmer can and that first throw he made was just one example of what Pitts was going to see all day.Oh well. That's the way it goes sometimes.
He didn't score a TD against Pitt all year with or without Palmer. Pretty much shut down.

So because they double him up and keep him out of the endzone, he's not good? Doesn't that mean someone else is open and scoring? What happened in Pitts the last time they played?

The Steelers couldn't stop giving the ball to Cincinnati on their own side of the 50, that's what happened. Sloppy game, they played poorly, and deservedly lost. the other two games, they played the way they typically play, and they won both handily.

I was refuting your claim that "Pitts hadn't shut him down before".

Did you tell him that you took his Fathead poster off of your bedroom wall and moved it to a wall in a room in your basement that no one goes in without any damage to your bedroom wall.....? :hophead:
