For those of you who know I worked Retail grocery store job with my Girlfriend. Her dad finally moved back home in August and they bought a house almost 1hr away so I barely see her. A lot of BS that had gone on at my job continued even after a new store director came. My GF transfered from our company up to where she lives now (the work environment is so much better, more professional and less toxic, they are even training her on stuff) and I ended up quitting almost 4 weeks after she left. Sh** hit the fan with a lot of BS and my dept manager throwing a tantrum about my GF leaving. It was so bad in the end if I could’ve afforded one I’d have pressed charges with my family on them and lawyered up. I had it the one day after seeing people get away with stuff they were trying to write me up on. I ended up leaving after my shift giving a hand written note telling them I quit and please put whatever vacation, Personal etc paid time off in my last pay check, told them I had accepted a new job and started the next day. That was Sunday sept 21

I had an interview for a cigar packing company family owned on Thursday Sept 25th and Friday I got the call I was hired. I started Tuesday Sept 30th. I’m a packer but there’s other oppurtunies and they are trying to expand the warehouse as they are constructing a retail store/cigar bar on the same property. My bosses told me the more I can do and more I know about cigars, brands etc the more opportunities and money I can earn. I want to learn as much as possible. I figured Google is good to start but I wanted some suggestions etc from people here who might smoke or know a bit more. I’m really excited about the job. It’s my first Fulltime job very laid back environment and the people are so friendly. Compared to my last job it’s a 180. My hiring manager also worked at my last company and in the interview he was talking smack on them which I found pretty dam funny. He also grew up near me. Most of my coworkers are around my age (mid 30s) and early to mid 40/ with our youngest 26. We have Friday happy hour and every helps one another. Our breakroom might be the coolest part with two fridges and I swear if we had an oven and stove we’d have a full fledged kitchen with all the product we have in there already. It’s a chill and laxed job. I got my weekends off finally plus major holidays and we follow the UPS holiday schedule. I’m getting my first Christmas Eve off in 20 yrs.

As you can guess I’m pretty psyched about this job. Our one boss already wants me learning another position to help out since one of my coworkers left for another job (closer to home was traveling 1 1/2 hrs each way to work sometimes 2) and he’s taking over some of his responsibilities. I’m starting realize a few things on cigars and accessories already but I wanted to soak up as much knowledge as possible.

TIA

Congrats DJ you deserve this. I quit cigs over 20 years ago but still scratch the itch with one or two cigars a month. My buddy gets Cubans from a place in Switzerland. I don’t have anything to offer other than the thought that it might be a good time for domestic cigar retailers because imported cigars are getting hit hard by tariffs these days.

Don't know squat about cigars, but just wanted to say congrats, brother. Sounds like a much better place to be and I wish you lots of luck and success there!
It already is. I just had someone in my family (great uncle) die recently and when I told the company they offered condolences and just said let us know when you’ll be out, do you need to take a half day today (day I told them it happened) and didn’t act like I was inconvenienced them at all unlike my other job where condolences sounded forced and acted like a funeral inconvenienced them.

They are very cool about public transport for me and even said it was cool I change my schedule to make sure I get home. Such a 180 and put some faith back into me on people. Physically and mentally I was not doing well at my other job.

Congrats @DJackson10

I don't know much about cigars but you're on the right track to try and learn all you can.

I'd say just dive into every YouTube video you can on it. But you're right, the more you can do, the more valuable you'll be to the company.

Glad to see you finally jumped ship at the old company. Working there caused you so much stress over such a long time. I know nothing about cigars but you'll likely get some good pointers here on where to read.
Your new company must be pretty happy about your motivation. Best of luck.
