Scout.com's Adam Caplan reports the Patriots have re-signed RB Justise Hairston (hamstring) and placed him on season-ending injured reserve.

Hairston will be stashed until next season. If he picks up the offense in '08 camp, the big back may battle for the role Sammy Morris will fill in 2007.

The Panthers did the same thing two years ago when they told Eric Shelton he had a broken foot.

Unless I'm mistaken, Hairston was released and there was no injury reported (7 other players were placed on the PUP list at the same time, but not Hairston). Then, they resigned him simply to put him on the IR. That's what I'm referring to as appearing suspicious. Do I have my facts wrong?

Hell yeah, I know Justise Hairston! He's a big fella, goes about 6'8", 290. He loves his Scotch!
